Oral B Power Toothbrush Genius 8500 $68.99 (Was $229.99) + Delivery (Free 3-Hour Delivery to Select Areas) @ Chemist Warehouse

3121

I've been looking for a good electric toothbrush for a while after my Phillips DiamondClean died yet again (3rd one I've been through in 6 years… so I'm hoping Oral B will be better). More modes, better case (Smart Travel Case) and better Bluetooth tracking compared to the Smart 1 which I was about to purchase if this hadn't come up today.

The lowest price I could find from a competitor is $195, and even the dual pack for the 8000 from Shavershop for $189 that doesn't come with the smart cases ends up being $94.50 each.

Free 3-hour delivery, select the option when checking out. Hope this helps

  • The 3 hour delivery is not avail in my place

    • same here

    • 10km from store I think is the criteria

  • +1

There are a few comparable ones at Big W also half price and then with 20% cashback available. Stack with Everyday Rewards boosters.

    • +2

No there are not. The closest model at BigW is the Pro 2000 for $90 which is about 5 models below the 8500.

The 8500 is a far better toothbrush and comes with the 9000's charging case - and it is $20 cheaper.

  • Bought, click and collect somewhere in Melbourne. Thanks OP!!!

  • +4

Was going to pull the trigger on the 2000 from Shaver Shop for the same price, this model seems like an improvement. Probably won't use 90% of the features..

    Thanks OP

    • +1

The fancy charging case can be useful if you travel a bit - also works as an overnight phone charger.

      • +4

I think the travel case is more hassle than feature.

        It's big and bulky
It has a unique charger, that's also big and bulky.
If you go overseas it's another thing that needs a travel adaptor

You can buy USB connected chargers which are much smaller and easier to travel with

Been using my 9000 for almost 4 years, no problem except the rubber buttons are starting to break down.
Bought one just in case 👍

3rd party seller, hoping someone is silly enough to buy it, or they have no stock.

    • +1

i think i will buy the one from CW and save a few dollars.

    • Grabbed this one from Amazon.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Oral-B-Electric-Toothbrush-Travel-…
Good to combine with cashrewards $10 over 150 with any luck

      • It requires special heads which are more expensive than standard Oral B heads yeah?

        • Yea it looks like it, but normal heads aren't that cheap these days anyway.

          • +5

@Kegsta: I guess it's worth paying extra for quality head.

            • @AustriaBargain: I don't know I just ordered it 10 minutes ago. If it makes my partner happy then it's worth it. I'll get the hand me down old style one haha.

              • @Kegsta: I don’t know but I read the reviews of the iO and people complain about the brush head size being too big.
I was set to get the iO after my Genius 9000 dies but the reviews just put me off getting the iO. I think I will stay with the 8000-9000 series as long as Oral-B keeps making them and the thin bristles brush heads because it really makes my teeth super clean.

Hope your partner likes the iO :)

          • +1

@Kegsta: Oral-B Precision Clean Replacement Electric Toothbrush Heads Refills, 8 Pack
            $30.59 from Amazon. Pretty cheap

    • io7 is a much better toothbrush. Just bought one from Chemist Warehouse and tried it out. Blows my old Oral B Triumph 5000 out of the water. Granted the brushes are more expensive. Unfortunately all the brushes are expensive for Oral B electric toothbrushes. You have to look out for when they are discounted.

  • Thanks

20% CB from SB for Westpac customers

  • +2

Honestly, the OralB IO toothbrushes are unbelievably better. Notwithstanding the free one I received at the OralB presentation I attended some time ago, as a dentist, I think the step up is more akin to a quantum leap.

    • +3

With the IO models, aside from the outrageous replacement head cost, people complain a lot about how slippery they are and how quickly they grow mould in the heads too.

      • +5

quickly they grow mould in the heads

Yeh dandoon, how exactly is this unbelievably better?

        • +6

          He got it for free

        • "the mouth is not a sterile environment" - the joke amongst dentist 😂

I've always been a bit ocd and always take the head off my brush and rinse the mating surfaces with I'm finished.

Also, you telling me your regular toothbrushes don't have mold? You may not see it, but it's likely in there! Small crevices that hold water… regular cleaning and timely replacement is the way to go!

    • Do you recommend a particular IO?

      • +1

Nope - was discussing it with a friend. His opinion (which i totally agree) is the io 6 series do much the exact same thing as the 7+ only thing is the newer ones have what looks like slightly improved gyro sensors for more accurate monitoring of your angling/technique?

The app is cool, but you'll only use it a few times (if at all). The main thing is the pressure sensor built into the indicator light on the handle!

    • +1

I would actually like to know the diff. I always like buying stuff. Too many versions I don't get what the real difference is.

      • +2

the real difference is that you pay more

        • +2

50% off, aren't I helping bring down inflation?

      • +1

I have an old Oral B Triumph Professional Care 5000 which was 'highish end' at the time and rechargeable. Uses the current toothbrushes. Just bought an io7. Difference feels big. It definitely gets more out from between the teeth. The system for telling if you're pushing too hard on your teeth while brushing is better also. Downside is I can't use my old brushes, and the new brushes are not cheap. I'll buy brushes when they're on sale. The charger on the io7,8,9 is better design also.

      • Yeah just look the my comment above 👍

Wjb nailed it with "the real difference is you pay more" hahaha

  • Thanks Op, im in the same boat, 4th sonicare diamond clean crapped itself, hard to move away but this price with the cashback looks pretty good

    • Why is it hard to move away?

The oral b rotating brushes give a better clean than sonic toothbrushes.

The sonic ones also sound very unreliable.

    • +1

Sonicare is rubbish. Get Oral B. Even the old style Oral B rechargeable is better than Philips. The new io7 uses new style brushes, but is even better.

      • Totally agreed. Sonicare leaves a lot to be desired in terms of cleaning ability too

  • This model is not much better then their cheaper versions

  • +1

Guess what I have found, Oral B Power Toothbrush Genius 8500 has bluetooth!!

    • +1

Its honestly not useful unless your paranoid about logging your brushing activity

      • +1

Or if you want to change the colour of the light

        • +5

Yeah pretty useless after the first day or so you don’t use these extra features (who would?) just because people see the RRP doesn’t mean it’s worth $70. I’ve got the genius 9000 and it’s no better than a $30 oral b one.

I would say the sensor/cut off that detects too much pressure on the tooth is useful though.

          • +1

@J B S: I have never used BT, but my daughter has. The sensor is good, and the charging case is handy - especially if going to US or Japan because the standard Oral-B charger (white thing) is 240V only, whereas the charging case is multi-voltage.

            • +1

@Andy01: Surprise surprise, the standard oral-b charger is actually wide voltage despite their markings.
Yes even the 110V marked US version works perfectly fine on a long term (a few years) here. Just runs a little hotter.

              • @truetypezk: Wow, okay, I would never have been game to take a 240V only charger to a country with 110/155V because it would run at twice the amps, which may not be healthy. Running a US charger here at 240V is also a bit risky, although at least the amps are half (it is often the amps that cause the damage rather than voltage).

                • @Andy01: Yep, I would never do that either until i saw people posting about it. Google it of you dont trust what I said, I have used it for like 3-4 years back in the days thay Oral B toothbrushes were still expensive in oz but much cheaper from the states. All you need is a cheap adapter.

                • @Andy01: I ended up picking a USB charger off of Amazon for international travel. Not that these need to be charged every day, but was handy just doing it via a battery bank.

      • +1

It has at least one use - to disable all the brushing modes so it makes it easier to turn on and off without having to cycle through modes.
But with that said - probably more efficient to buy a cheaper model without the different modes and bluetooth.

  • Brought thanks OP.

  • OOS online but maanged to click and collect at Darlinghurst

    • you could of got free fast delivery

  • good deal, ordered one

  • Ordered 1 thankyou

  • Anyone can share to share their experience with Oral B vs Philips? Not sure what are the differences

    • +1

The Phillips has bristles that vibrate.

The bristles on the oral b rotate/move.

The rotating style like the oral b gives a better clean than vibrating bristles.

  • Thanks OP! Got one for Xmas gift :D

  • +1

Order cancelled, 20 min after order confirmation

    • did you choose delivery or cc ?

  • bought now, refund later

  • None nearby and won't do delivery

  • OOS online. Available in some chemist warehouse, but need to check for all in surroundings

    • This is what doesn't make sense to me, surely they can just get the chemist warehouse that has stock to send one out by post?

  • jeez, i gotta take a little trip to get mine, nothing close to me :(
will be well worth it though.

freaking A, i have been buying tons of crap all day on here. FML

  • Anyone who has one, how does the "Position detection technology to track the toothbrush in the mouth." work? How well would it work for a child?

    • I have never used it but I thought that all Pro models below the AI has to use your phones camera to track position, but don't quote me on that. I have no idea how you video yourself brushing your teeth while brushing ??

    • +3

The position detection is a gimmick. It requires a bluetooth connection to a mobile phone that has a camera watching you brush… yeah, seriously.

      • I agree I have the 9000 model it’s all crap features that you won’t use. $30 oral b electric is all ya need.

  • Ridiculously good deal. I was watching for these (CW sold them last year at half price for $85 and I missed out). I checked earlier this week and they were $165 at CW.

The 8500 is a 8000 toothbrush with a 9000 charging travel case. I think that the only difference between this and 9000 is the 9000 has a tongue brushing mode for those so inclined.

I have had an 8000 for 6½ years and it is still going quite strong, though battery life is down to about 9 days, so I wanted to get these as a spare for us.

    • Do they really last? I have a pro 2000 or sth, maybe 5yo. If 2 people use one after the other, it's noticeably slower for the 2nd. It'll work, but you want to wait 15min in between for best results.

All these we've had are the same battery wise. rpm seems same since back then too.

      • I have been using my 8000 for 6½ years now and battery has dropped a bit to 8½ days, but otherwise fine.

At this price buy 2 and no need to share.

        • So you don't leave them on the charger then?

          • @furyou: No, I don't. It gets charged when the thing goes to slowdown mode.

  • Any deal on the brush heads?

  • +1

    Already delivered, that was fast…

    • +1

      mine too :D happy days

  • +2

    Oos in nsw?

  • Temporarily Low Stock Online - Please Select Click & Collect Store

No stocks in NSW metro areas

  • Insane price…

  • OP I bought mine for $98 a few years ago - what do you use the bluetooth for? I cant think of a single reason so never did anything with it.

I like the charging case, tempted to get a spare.

NB Ive been using braun electrics for years - the only one thats ever died on me is one that was dropped.

    • The bluetooth is good for tracking your brushing and flossing routine. There are few different routine programs that can help.

Honestly, it has been good for me personally.

  • Hi all, does anyone know how does Oral B compare with Phillips Sonicare in general? Thanks!

    • The rotating style toothbrushes are supposed to clean better than the sonic ones.

  • We've received your order!

    • keep refreshing - i got one just now

  • For anyone that travels, these expensive Oral-B ones support dual voltage charging, while the cheap ones don't. This is ultimately why I ended up getting these genius 8000/9000 series
