[iOS] Better Weather Australia, Premium Yearly Subscription IAP - A$9.99 (Was A$14.99) @ Apple App Store

34

Better Weather Australia is the number one choice for a clean, easy to use Australian Weather app. Sick of your "free" weather app throwing ads at you every time you want to check the weather? Or spending minutes just trying to find tomorrow's forecast in a cluttered mess? Or worse - tracking your every move and selling it to third parties.

Better Weather Australia provides a clean and easy to use experience, to get all the info you need, and none of the fluff that makes other weather apps so hard to use and creepy.

All data is sourced from the fantastic Willy Weather, which is backed by data from the Bureau of Meteorology.

It also comes with a cracking watchOS app, with a huge range of watch face complications to choose from. The iOS app also comes jam packed with Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, along with all the features you'd expect from a great weather app.

A Yearly Premium Subscription is available for A9.99 for a limited time only (usually A$14.99).

The app is free to download and use, ad free – and the premium subscription offers a 1 week trial to see if premium is worth it to you.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

    Just use BOM then…

which is backed by data from the Bureau of Meteorology.

Your service is freely available via:

    http://www.bom.gov.au/

If you use that web address and it takes you to a "BOM does not support HTTPS" page, use http://reg.bom.gov.au

yr is a good alternative to the BoM for free weather. Hourly forecasts and 10 day long range forecasts.

  • +2

In-built Apple weather app is free, has no ads and works well

    • The built in weather app unfortunately doesn't source most of their Australian weather data from the BOM. Forecasts are always not quite right when compared to the official BOM weather summaries.

No ads for me on the BOM app

In other words, you're charging people $9.99 to use a reskinned version of the free BOM app

No offence, but this made me laugh hard.

Just use BOM. No ads and I'Ve never had any issues with the UI

BOM started charging developers for access to data, so indie devs need to charge a fee. The difference is apps like Jesse's has a better UI (subjective) and Apple Watch widgets. It's your choice.

FWIW, Apple Weather is not sourced from BOM so not accurate or up to date except for weather warnings - which are from BOM.

so indie devs need to charge a fee

This is unfortunately the case. I wanted to provide an alternative to the BOM app (which of course subjectively, I think has a terrible UI). As you say, it also lacks features that I wanted like a watch app and a range of widgets for iOS.

The BOM charge exhorbitant fees for access to their data - so high that they've basically priced every app developer out of the market of using their data. Willy Weather are superstars and provide an affordable feed to develop against. However, subscriptions are necessary just to cover costs.

The BOM app has one thing going for it - you aren't the product. Most "free" weather apps use your location data and sell it to third parties.

If making a weather app is so costly then why make one in the first place? Makes no sense to leverage data that is freely accessible

This makes me sad. Because I wanted to create something different, and I thought it would appeal to some people. I have a small but loyal subscriber base who enjoy it, and that's enough for me.

Absolutely not forcing anybody to use it - yes there are free alternatives and I encourage people to use them if that works for them.

@jessejackson: No offense but this is oz bargain not oz-sympathy posting. You are offering a paid service which is available for free elsewhere (direct from the source). There is no bargain in your product

@RhythmicJAY28: All of the features listed in this app are not available for free. The BoM app is missing an Apple Watch app and complications. The UI is also horrible in the BoM app. PS: it's also not OzSarcasm.

              • @Chuppa: I'm so glad op made something that can be viewed for free via a webpage available on a smart watch for a fee.

                • +1

@RhythmicJAY28: You obviously have no idea.

                  • @Chuppa: I'm sorry that my smart watch isn't the first device I use to check the weekly forecast on

                    • @RhythmicJAY28: There's nothing wrong with that, but then there's nothing wrong with someone else feeling it's convenient for them to use their watch - as long as they're not forcing you to do it, or asking you to pay for them to get the convenience - what's the problem?

It costs money to make an app. And the BOM charge a fair amount to use their weather data. This developer can't make his app free, as he would go broke. It seems like a good deal. No one is forcing anyone to buy the app, so I'm not sure why everyone has to reply saying they aren't interested. Not interested? Move along.

      This is ozbargain not ozsimpleeconomics

This isn't Whirlpool either so what's with all the sarcasm and pointed comments towards the OP?

He put forward a discounted offer on an app he has developed.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy it - Ozbargain is live and let live - one person's bargain is another person's "noo waaaaaay".

  • Thanks for the heads up. I like the look of your app and am happy to give the paid version a go
