Any thoughts from people who have bought from Espresso Coffee Shop before?

In before doubters. Swapped from Breville grinder to this and my coffee actually improved (grind is way finer and consistent). I use ozb approved dual boiler. This is also much quieter.

Having your same previous set up was just thinking… "Seriously would this make any difference, 500 bucks worth of difference, to my morning cup of Joe"

      • In particular when you had your breville grinder for a while, as swapping the burrs cost a fortune. At least when I looked into it.

      • +3

Believe it. Grinder choice is the biggest deciding factor in espresso quality. A crappy machine can pour excellent shots with a decent grinder. The best machine cannot match that if you only have a crappy grinder.

      • yep it matters, fwiw I just use Aldi dark roast and did prior, it tastes that much better, believe the hype.

        • What aspects about the taste changed?

          • @kiitos: Nice try but I'm not going to get sucked into sounding like a coffee snob by saying it heightened the toast, caramel, chocolate and umami aspects of the bean….doh

Seriously though it just tastes bigger and better.

    • +1

I did the same. Well worth the switch.

  • Super fast delivery(think took less than 7 days), good warranty as well as currently using eureka as our family grinder and have been an absolute tank with fluffy grounds!

Let me know if you have any questions, I got the matte black design and I wish I got the matte with chrome haha

    • can the cable be replaced? assume it's using a european plug so an adapter is required.

      • +2

They provide an adapter for au plug

      • +1

Cable can be replaced. I purchased DF64V and it had UK plug. I just cut the plug cable and replaced it with Australian plug. It took about 30 mins? I had to watch DIY YouTube from an Aussie sparky to understand about different type of wire. You can buy an Australian plug from bunning for 3-5 bucks.

      • +1

Request for an AU adapter when you place the order. The adapter is well design, it is compact and holds the plug so it doesn’t fall off.

I was thinking of replacing the cable with an AU plug cable. But Espresso Coffee Shop advised against that in case you need to raise a warranty claim in the future.

        • yep it's dorky but entirely functional

    • I was thinking of getting the matte black one - now you have me worried I will regret it!

  • +1

Purchased this one a couple years back from them and from memory it arrived in about 2-3 days to the Adelaide hills. I was shocked.

Super happy with it and it's an absolute brick of a thing. Feels like it will last an age!

Highly recommend this grinder if in the market.

  • +1

i bought this for $729. would happily paid that price again. The grinder is built like a tank. I did change the bean hopper to a single dose rubber thing to help blow out bean retention. This is a steal at $558

    • Where'd you get the single dose hopper?

      • +1

i got this and it is quality. i was about to buy the same on amazon and they wanted $90.
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/404299908925
only caveat was it did take a few weeks for delivery.

        • Question for you as someone who's looking to upgrade from the SGP - what's the Eureka like in terms of workflow and mess?

I've acknowledged the limitations of the Breville, but I switched to single dosing a while back primarily for consistency of dose and freshness and it's been pretty easy to live with aside from knowing I'm missing out on better quality.

I've read a lot about the Eurekas being fiddly, and pretty much anything with a bellows seems to throw particles everywhere - keen to upgrade my espresso, but not make my life harder at the same time. I'd pretty much just figured I'd just stump up for a Niche and be done with it. But I do like the idea of the Eurekas.

          • @SanguinarySeraph: Make sure you have a dosing funnel that goes on top of your portafilter. After your grind finishes use your bellow to push remaining coffee. It blows into the funnel and collects all the mess. If there is a bit of residue i just wipe it up.
Huge difference from using eureka. Single walled filter and ageing beans i can still keep the 9 bar of pressure (Breville DB).
            You wont regret buying this.

  • Thanks OP. I couldn't justify the Eureka for one espresso a day. If anyone is interested, Breville Smart Grinder is $244 after $50 code at https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/273298497995 (I also purchased the "last one"). These went for $159 in 2018!

    • think about it this way, better espressos a day for the next 10 years

      • +1

I watched this Alternative Brewing blind taste test of a Breville Smart Grinder (with its small conical burrs, plastic parts and questionable repairability) vs a Niche Zero and kind of paused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6ldIvyQwv0&t=3s Will see. BSGP will replace a 15+ year old Sunbeam EM0480 (which still works perfectly messily).

  • Eureka Mignon Perfetto is similar price for those who switch grind regularly between espresso and filter.

  • +1

I upgraded from a Breville Smart Grinder to this in chrome and black. 100% one of my best purchases to date. It’s better in every way and I’d buy another tomorrow.

I purchased it from Espresso Coffee Shop and it came in less than a week. Better than many domestic purchases I’ve made

  • this or df64

    • df64 is a single dose grinder so unless you want to measure your doses every time, this

      • u can use a hopper with that too. but I want ti simgle dose actually

  • Cheapest AU price seems to be $699.00.

Been pondering an alternative to the BSG for a while - it does the job but… . .

  • +1

Mine came from them really quickly. Around a week to Melbourne I think.

  • It shows €335 for me, price not reduced from normal.

    • The code gives 15% off at checkout

  • Looking to buy the Profitec Pro 400 which is a lot cheaper than local stock, does anyone advise against this? Am I going to regret not having local warranty? Its like ~2k here vs ~2.7k local stock

      Hi Portard,
I did the exact same thing. Great machine. Same saving. Arrived fast.
HOWEVER there have been 2 or 3 times since I've got it that it has acted weird, steam pressure died, wouldn't heat etc. They are quite temperamental. So far I have been able to take it apart a bit and fix it, but each time I get that sinking feeling that maybe I should have bought locally (the repair place for the local stockist is about 5 mins from my house too!). I guess I'm saying…there are pros and cons.

      • Thanks for your insight Carl, I’ll have to have a think about it

  • Thank you, ordered one. Should be a nice upgrade from Breville Smart Grinder
