    Apparently for CarPlay the brand and price of the head unit doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of it for CarPlay use.

    Feel like the ones coming out from China around the same price are the way to go. Come with car specific fascia if you don't have a standard din.

    Also comes with canbus decoder.

    E.g. Teyes based on UIS7862

    Full HD reverse cam, GPS,Android based and can connect other things like DAB, DTV, dash cam, 4G sim, tpms, obd, 360 reverse cam but would be pita to install.

    Don't have to use carplay if you don't want to but can if you are that way inclined.

    Have one myself.

    Going down the aerpro route is going to be $$$

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/394653684962 ..bought this for 80 bucks a few weeks back with ebay plus 15% off and an offer on listed price..which has gone up since then.. no smarts with the phone doing the heavy lifting but super responsive beautiful screen comes with an excellent dash cam built in and a sd card is provided for recording and comes with a very good backing camera and wire harness to boot. Any of these units will still use the existing speakers .. Unless you want the built in look .. this is a very good unit..I paid 400 dollars to replace my bmw head unit which slots in about 6 years back.. if this had been around I wouldve grabbed it..well maybe not without any reviews.. but it is a bargain at the price .. the phone does the work , the RAM and processor does not matter, quality of diplay and the bluetooth module is what matters in these

      Are these aandroid auto wireless, then? And you'd lose steering wheel controls etc etc. Hmm.
