AMEX is one of the shittest credit cards out there. There's extra fees involved on some purchases ontop of the normal credit card fees, and some places just don't even accept the card. I really wonder why people get them when they're better off getting a Mastercard.

They hire hot chicks at the local shopping centre booths….

thats the only good thing about them :)

    • Don't know where your booths are but the ones I've seen all have sleazy looking guys……or is that citibank..

  • oh, my card is free and very high credits, of course i will keep it…

  • If you get the right deal (eg: Australia Computer Society member), the annual fee is waived and you can get 1.5 points for 1 dollar spent and can see the points accumulate.

With their recent move of 1=1 coversion of points for Singapore Airlines that offers 15% discount on online ff ticket booking, it is worth a consideration!

  • acs deal only get you 1 point per 1 dollar

or maybe it's changed recently ?

i get my amex gold with free annual fee ever when they did a promotion a while ago :)

    • Since you mentioned - I went and checked my points. I still get 1.5 for 1 dollar spent (see below) - however, I think there may be a limit on that.

      Description———Amount spent——Points Earned—-Bonus Points—-Total Points
      SAFEWAY——————$27.07——————27——————-14———————41

Note: this may have changed recently - I have had my card over 10 years now.

  • didn't Amex gives the customer more reward for using the card? To get back the money spend on those reward, it charges merchants pretty high fee in return. So consumers is better off with it, not merchant?

    • Exactly why many merchants won't let you use American Express, or charge you extra for it…

      • Yes I've noticed there are quite alot of companies that won't accept Amex.

    • Amex also have various dining offers that I mainly use (http://www.americanexpressofferzone.com/selects/SearchHandle…)

Not to mention their recent offer of 5000 points for 5 transactions (they trimmed it back to max of 10,000 points max per month after a huge interest in that offer)

If you can get a card deal without any fees somehow, its definitively worth it. They tend to offer such deals when somehow they find out that you are reasonably safe to issue a creditcard.

Yes, I still have a Visa card for merchants who don't accept Amex ;)

PS: I don't work for Amex or have any interest whatsoever
