Seriously though if you are going to spend this kind of coin get the DJI RC controller with an in-built screen.

    • +1

second this, the DJI RC is such a nice quality of life improvement

      • I third this. I wouldn't trade the convenience for anything else.

    • +2

Third-ed. It is just so much easier when you can just power up the drone and controller and fly. If you have to use your phone, it is way slower, and invariably somebody calls you at a critical moment flying the drone, or your phone runs out of battery, or the app crashes etc, etc.

      • +1

Looking down on DJI RC controller users in FPV goggles

    • +4

      Not pro

  • Hmm this or the mini 2 se for $500

    • +2

If you want to shoot vertical videos (e.g. for Instagram stories) or if you want to using the auto-tracking feature, the Mini 3 Pro is better.

If you just want horizontal videos and to fly the drone yourself, the Mini 2 is better value.

      • Thanks!

      • The camera is quite different too..

I have a DJI Mini 1 which I think has the same camera as Mini 2 SE. Camera is worse than my Phantom 3, a very old drone. Worse than Mavic Pro. Dynamic range is poor and tends to blow out highlights. Detail is poor as well.

I'm upgrading to a Mini 3 or 3 Pro purely for the camera.

        • +1

In the real world, I've found a bigger difference between the Mini 1 and Mini 2, due to RAW, than between the Mini 2 and Mini 3.

  • Of course no participating sellers have the mini 4 pro

    • +2

This store has them and the fly more combos but the price after the 20% discount is worse than the price with the usual $100 to $120 off for spending over $1000.

      • Thanks to jack

        • I assumed even after jack the prices would be better than usual, but no.

      • Oh yeah I meant the 22% voucher not the $120 off

  • +12

    This or my marriage?

    • Thinking about using this to shoot a wedding..

  • +2

Don't forget to use the 6% discount for ebay gift cards on Gift Card Exchange. Using both discounts I paid $854 for the PRO RC version.

Only risk here (it's happened to me many times) by the time GCs come through, the deal is over and you're left holding eBay GCs and a :( on your face

      • +1

Yeah exactly. The giftcards came through immediately for me, but that doesn't guarantee that it will for everyone.

      • How long does it take for the GC's to come through? I'd have thought the digital versions would be instantly ….. no?

and then I see Hamburgerz on the same line of thought but 6 minutes quicker than me ;)

      • Then keep the GC for the next and better Mini 3 pro special offer… 8-))

  • So Mini 3 Pro with RC + Fly more would cost about $1100. Is it better to splurge a bit more and get the 4 pro + fly more with discounted gc?

  • can u get this price beat at JB Hi FI

    • not with coupon price

  • buy this cheap or pay more for mini 4 pro??!!

  • +2

Didn't need one, but couldn't resist, thanks OP!

Now to convince the wife letting her take amazing Instagram videos!

  • Mini 4 would have sensors for detecting objects above the drone
If you don't care then Mini 3 with the RC controller

  • if one was to start dabbling in drones for future work purposes what do people recommend to get as a minimum? is this just a toy to have fun with or a very entry level for basic drone work?

    • These are good and stable with decent battery. Footage is good. Only grumbles I read are people who say

      1) no waypoints with the included software. Fair enough, I've never needed them.

      2) I can't fly it 5+km from home (or something to that effect). YMMV. You're supposed to keep it in range of sight anyway. I've been able to fly mine a few kms over water.

    • +1

If just want to slowly get into it to see if the hobby is for you, would recommend just getting the controller by itself and start off with the simulators on steam and get some flight hours in.

      • Can you recommend which simulator on steam?

        • +1

          hey tony,
free on steam, FPV Drone Simulator
          and theres also Liftoff,

im trying to get in at least a couple more hours before i jump on a drone purchase

  • Has anyone seen a comparison with the original Mavic Pro - is it much of a camera upgrade?

  • Any mini 4 pro deal?

    • +2

Sydney Mobiles is the only ebay store that has a "Black Friday sale" on the mini 4 pro. Since release, ebay have pretty much always had a $120 off coupon for plus members, so with stores like mobileciti selliing it at RRP, it's been $120 off RRP.
These are the options Sydney Mobiles have:
      Mini 4 Pro with RC-N2 controller: RRP $1119/mobileciti $120 off $998.99/Sydney Mobiles "22% off" $976.68
Mini 4 Pro Fly more combo: RRP $1699/mobileciti $120 off $1578.99/Sydney Mobiles "22% off" $1601.76
Mini 4 Pro Fly more combo plus: RRP $1799/mobileciti $120 off $1678.99/Sydney Mobiles "22% off" $1713.76
The $300 cap and jack really wreck this "sale" of theirs.

      • Do you recommend buying these kinds of devices mobileciti? Feedback wise they looked okay but that extra 120 off for the FMC Mini 4 pro is still a big thing compared to buying it from JB. Do you recommend buying from them instead from JB just for the AUD 120 off?

        • Following.. seems like if it has a fault I will be kicking myself I didn't buy from JB paying the extra $120

  • Why not Avata? I better find some reviews

    • +1

Avata is well over 250g so you're supposed to register it, very heavy and very loud.

And, if you care, FPV rules are stupid here. https://www.casa.gov.au/drones/drone-rules/flying-first-pers…

But they won't tell you that in JB Hifi when they sell you their overpriced DJI drone that takes $170 batteries!

Mini Whoops are the way to go if you actually want to fly FPV. Practice in a simulator and learn how to fly first.

      • I've got the mini, don't like it. Perhaps the new ones are better…

  • $45 from Shopback Westpac right now. Plus Shopback $5 and $10 challenges on top

  • Reviews says the DJI RC controller is the way to go …

    https://youtu.be/K2zFG8ef18E

  • oos for both. thanks for sharing op! missed out on both lmao
