Dawn of War II is a shadow of it's predecessor. Less units, smaller maps, less base-building, less micro, and basically less RTS in general.

Highly recommend the original series for people who overlooked it back in 2006.

It is such a demanding micro-management test with so many customizable variables for every individual squad and unit.

The atmosphere and story stays true to the table-top canon and the voice-acting and battle effects are just ridiculous.

Still works great on Win7 x64; you just need to edit an .ini file for full widescreen support:

I also prefer the original game, however I wouldn't describe either as demanding. As RTS games go, I think its pretty simple with little micro-management.

      • i hate how nowadays so many games are being dumb downed or overly simplified, it ruins the core dynamics of the original

    • I prefer the original but… 'less micro'? Hm. Both are squad-based RTSes but II has significantly more active and passive abilities, items, cover, inventory management, etc.

Pretty much this, DoW2 and company of heroes are the bridges inbetween traditional RTS and games like DotA/LoL/HoN.

If anyone can't decide which DoW2 to get. Get vanilla and chaos rising if you're playing single player, retribution if you're playing multi. Retribution has pretty much nothing by way of campaign but it's online leaves Vanilla and CR in the dust.

  • this is confusing? I want them all but which ones are the downloads that i save money on?

    • There's 2 in a bundle, the rest, you should buy them individually?

      And then there's the DLC's…?

      • oh ok, so buy everything besides the last one you posted?

  • ….

  • You can get anthology for the same price as the first two? I or am I missing something?

If I am after online play is retributionthe only one I should get in dow2? Are the dlcs and other expansions worth it for the additional multi play stuff

  • Why do you keep posting separate deals for pretty much every day of the THQ weekend? I'm fairly certain one would have sufficed. You don't see people making new deals for every day of a Steam summer sale…

    • Sorry, i was quite slack during the summer sale…

I promise i WILL do a better job next sale…

      Okay? :D
