  I wasn't sure what a growler was really for so I read this article and it cleared it up for me. I'll be passing up on the deal because I was hoping it would somehow magically also make the beer cold if you were out camping

    It does keep it cold reasonably well, but I got one for Christmas last year and struggle to use it. Ive taken to loading it up with ice and premix when camping and keeping the beer in the esky.

      For multi-day camping it just wouldn't cut it unless you have access to a fridge in which case why not keep your drinks in there? The ability to easily put your drinks under pressure and serve them like at a pub is probably the ideal use case

      It's quite pretty to show off to the lads and it's a good deal based off OP's description so hopefully it helps someone out

  What brand/link CO2 canisters are generally good quality/value, or it doesn't make much difference?

    Any standard unthreaded CO2 cartridge will work. 16g for the 128oz/4L (this one) or 8g for the smaller 64oz/2L.

    I have a smaller 64oz growler and the 8g is all that is needed to pressurise and run the keg with enough left over to rinse it through with water when you're done.

    For this larger 4L growler you'll need the 16g unthreaded cartridges.

    Every place I've gone to that fills growlers do squealers (1L), and both 2L and 4L growlers
