I’m not sure about New Balance, but I wear US 9 in Adidas Ultraboosts annd most Nike runners and when trying on the Solomons at Anaconda I needed a US 9.5. Your feet will swell a lot when hiking, plus, these being Goretex means your feet will be on the warmer side even more.
I read something about going up 1/2 a size too in a quick search just now. Wish I knew that before. When I bought mine (not these particular Salomon shoes) a few years ago I read that they were wide shoes and just bought my regular size. My NB size is usually 4E and these shoes are soooo tight. I can wear them but I feel like my feet are bound Chinese style. For whatever reason when I walk around in them they feel a bit better. If I'm just sitting around they really aren't that comfortable. I really only wear them sometimes, like when it's wet. They haven't stretched as much as I hoped they would since I bought them.
I've ran in many NB and Brooks 2E trail shoes for a comfortable fit. Unfortunately for me, I haven't found a pair of Salomon trail shoes that felt wide enough.
