This[1] review points out there's quite a few flaws in the 4K version. Probably still good overall.

    • Is it noticeable throughout? Would the normal BD version be better? I mean, I have the original DVD collectors edition (the box sets with the various statues) which was 1080 anyway… should I just stick with that?

      • DVD at 1080p?

        • Lol, yeah, probably not… they are what, 20 years old. :)

This is why I never upgraded from the blu-ray release. I haven't seen the 4K version in person, but from what people said around the time of its release, it sounded like they basically took the existing blu-ray, upscaled it, then used a heavy amount of denoising to smooth out the image, which ended up making it less detailed than the original blu-ray release as it smoothed out a lot more than just the film grain. Then they changed the colour grading of each shot, which is fine, but unnecessary. They added HDR, but again, this was achieved by boosting the brightness of the original blu-ray, this is not a new 4K transfer with HDR, which is what most people expected. They clearly took shortcuts with this release and the image quality suffered as a result. The conclusion I came to was that the original extended edition blu-ray release was still the best version of the trilogy.

I've got this. The quality is nuts. The movies look like they could've been shot in 2023. Highly recommended.

  • Three hundred lives of men I have walked this earth and now I have no time to watch.

    It comes in 4k?

    I'm getting one.

So good, now delete the tv show.

  • Rabbit wasn't it, not chicken?

  • Can replace the discs that came with the book edition.

not a bad deal but prefer apple movie at this price

Has been quite cheaper multiple times before, so I would argue with the 'really good deal' assessment.

No arguments with the product and it's quality. Purchased previously from JB hi-fi at 48.30 and paid with discounted GCs

I'd prefer 4kg lord of the fries

I think there's a better trilogy, but I can't recall the name at the moment…

  • Damn shame this version of the films doesn't come with any of the appendices and special features, still gotta hang onto old DVD/BluRay extended edition copies for those. Bought this version anyway
