Make sure you change the currency to USD if it is not already. There are issues with pay pal when GBP is used.

Can't find many reviews on the site but it is paid for through pay pal so there is a level of security there. The site also states in about us "Your purchase satisfaction is further enhanced by our 30-day money back guarantee" and has a detailed Returns Policy which is somewhat reassuring.

Very tempting, just worried about authenticity of products though.

EDIT: Did a quick look around the site, found this on the about us page:

"Hanlinshop is a Factory-Direct e-Commerce platform based in Shenzhen. We have served more than half a million consumers all over the world since 2005. More than 15,000 visitors browse our products online each day.

Directly linked with over 100 factories in China, this is your avenue to steal a bargain right on the shop floor of a factory.

A solid team of dedicated professional managers and staff has been developing and operating this online store platform."

However site is called Zb-Shop.com, so went to search Hanlinshop and came up with http://www.hanlinshop.com/ which is a very similar site, still no reviews on that either…

    • Hanlinshop is a Factory-Direct e-Commerce platform based in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen should be ringing fire alarm bells.

Revoked my vote as I found out the business is based in Hong Kong.
I had lots of issues of dealing with HK business (both on internet and HK owned local tech shops), not sure if it's something to do with my Chinese mainlander name :(

I would recommend ppl to get this bargain only if:

    1. The business is an authorized Audio-Technica dealer
    2. You can tell the difference between the real and fake….and it's hard as I know how "real" some of the fakes can be ;)

Always pay by Paypal, as if you find something of your purchase is fake, the sellers may ask you to send it back to give you refund, then you can tell Paypal it's against Aus Post regulation to post fake stuff in that case Paypal will help you to get the refund.

    Good luck :)

Tried that once, saying I can't post fake stuff but they wanted me to verify it was fake with an 'expert'.
Wasn't worth it in the end.

      • ANny authorized dealer (i.e. HN, GoodGuys) can be expert, as long as they provide you the written approval with their business name.

      • Just go to any AT shop (e.g. AT lounge under Myer in Sydney), tell them you'll probably end up buying a genuine one with them, they'll be more than happy to verify if it's fake or not for you. (Could inventory the serial etc.)

However if you needed documentation to go along with that then you'd be hard pressed to get it verified as fake for cheap.

Yep, I tried that once too.
Better off to file ItemNotReceived dispute, counterfeit disputes never turn out well.

  • Was literally looking at buying these headphones last night but I'll wait until a few more comments pop up about experience with the vendor before I purchase…

    • +9

It's 124.23 USD =121.181 AUD shipped from Amazon US, $25 extra but it's worth it for the grade of customer service from Amazon

I bought these headphones from Amazon when the last deal popped up. They are awesome headphones. $120 is a steal!

The site looks pretty bodgy, considering all the random stuff they sell. Apparently there are fake M50s out there.
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/513866/has-the-fake-ath-m50-arrived…

    I wouldn't risk it.

  • I bought presumably fake ones from dealextreme ~$25-30. I'm not an audiophile, but they sound fine. The way they fold is very good for messenger bags because the end up very flat and bend to the curve of the bag. So they're great as portable headphones.

  • How do these sound when connected to iPhone/iPod/iPad?

  • I bought M50s from a Malaysian seller on eBay a year ago - boxed properly, looked fine…. put them away and didn't give it another thought until i went to use them a few months later. Awful. Seller had vanished - chucked 'em in the bin.
If i was buying again i'd go Amazon as stated.

  • What are the problems with paypal and GBP?

  • I picked up these fantastic headphones the last time it was on sale on Amazon. I have both a fake and genuine pair and the difference is night and day. Pay the extra to get the genuine pair if you're not sure.

    • Great, now I'm doubting the ones I got from ebay from this seller called gadget-bliss lol

      • +1

According to a whirlpool post, gadgetbliss states: "Also, we are offering a 200% money back guarantee that all items we sell are authentic, this is a legally binding statement and anyone can get a 200% refund if what we sell them is a fake. What more reassurance can we give?"

In either case I'd rather buy from gadgetbliss than zb-shop anyday.

I bought my pair of Audio Technica AD700 from gadgetbliss on ebay. They were legit however they weren't based in Australia, the product was sent from Sri Lanka and it was a Japanese version (all the box was in Japanese).

It should be fairly obvious if you've ever tried the real one.

        However if you haven't…

If you're willing to break your fake ones (only if they're fake), get an AMP and put through some ~1.3W of power. (There should be no distortion up to 1.6W, but PLEASE don't put it on your ears.)

There's no way anyone making a fake pair would go out of their way to match the power handling specifications of the original. (I'm sure 99% of users would never try putting that much power through their headphones.)

  • Great headphones with one problem. I can't hear myself speak while wearing them, so for gaming i end up yelling :/

    • +2

They isolate very well indeed, to partially resolve that whilst you're gaming you can add a feedback loop on your computer. (Playback the microphone to the headset at a reduced volume.)

Also I wouldn't actually recommend M50's for gaming, unless you very specifically wanted loud bass. For example when playing BF3, the gunshots and vehicles rumble is way too loud (similar to real life I suppose) in comparison to the rest of the game.

      • That is my final thoughts as well. Any suggestions on similar price/quality but a bit more suitable?

        • Audio Technica AD700s are always a top pick.

      • I play wearing these. God they are just amazing when it comes to armoured kill. :) The rumbling of the tank destroyer treads and the explosions.. truly magnificent. I think they heavy bass is a positive and adds to the experience. :)

I paid $170 (std Australian price gouging) from PCCG and I don't really regret it.

  • Hmm, looking for something to replace my HD280's. These could be a goer

  • Amazing value headphones, but I'm not too sure about the vendor.

  • I wouldn't be able to support a HK based business which doesn't offer PayPal.

  • I wouldn't trust anything coming from 'Shenzhen', even HK is better

  • I am using ATH-M50 to listen to music asIi type this comment. Like most people here I bought mine on Amazon for about 120bux including shipping when they had a sale a while back. It was worth every dollar and these are imo better than Beats Studio(too over priced for what it is, guess the extra $200+ is for those who want some 'swag'…)

So about the authenticity, can't say 100% they are fake but I think extra 40-50 dollar is worth the piece of mind knowing that you are getting the real deal. You are already paying 90 dollars.

If they are authentic then I would say "shut up and take my money!" Question is are you willing to risk it?

  • screw it, I'll just order the AD900's from PCCaseGear tomorrow.

Thing with audio is, nothing is ever enough…

    • I found that mostly true… until I found that special headphone. (Alessandro MS-Pro)
…But yeah, a lot of money has gone into this hobby

    • Yeah you should amend that to "nothing is ever enough until you spend $700 on a pair"… :-p

  • What's the difference between this and "Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B Active Noise-Cancelling Closed-Back Headphones"?

    • smaller driver 40mm vs 45mm
      obviously noise cancelling vs non
300Ω impedance vs 38 (ATH-ANC7B needs an amp)

@nehcrow yes, if I never bought any headphones or cameras, I could probably afford a semi-decent car. But at least I can watch Fast 5 and feel I'm driving the car >:)

    • Basically if you don't need the noise cancelling than the M50s will be way better as noise cancelling technology actually cost quite a bit out of the whole product. That said the ATH-ANC7 (read up for differences between the b and the c model) are excellent noise cancelling headphones, and for what they are I would recommend them in a heart beat.
