If you are in Market for a bike on budget, it might be good alternative to Kmart or BigW.

It is made of Alloy vs other cheap bikes.

This is the standard price and delivery is $69.99 for me

As really it’s a pretty basic bike with revoshift and a hub. I’d save your money for something better

If you can find the $499 Daytona I’d snap one of those up

Please just spend a little more and get a decent bike brand's bike that can be serviced. 99 bikes has sale and this one is ok for light riding
    https://www.99bikes.com.au/merida21-speeder-10-v-matt-black-…

    • I honestly wouldn't touch 99 bikes ☹️ $600 on upgrades this week and got it back with the following problems:
Indexing virtually non existent - 5 mechanics and 3 stores later still no fix.
      Front bar was loose
      Grips were lose
      Shifter was lose.
BB was lose and not to spec.

They're on commissions so have to pump out jobs to earn a living. Corners are cut significantly on all bike setups and work done.
      It's very questionable their mechanics..

Took it to a reputable bike store and they fixed all the problems in 10 minutes and didn't charge me.
Said reputable bike store bikes start at $1200 but commonly $6,000+
      it's 5 star service - no joke.

      • Serious?? I never heard of it as gear indexing is nothing too technical. If you are a rider even weekend warrior would be able to do the tuning let alone a bike shop mechanic and 5 of them in 3 shops???
        Front bar was loose
        Grips were lose
        Shifter was lose
Basically anyone who got a torque wrench or a wrench would have been able to tighten them??
I understand there are some good ones and some very average ones, but for the above work is the basic where most regular rides would be doing it (except for super rich who aren't getting their hands dirty).

I am more referring people buy a bike from a reputable bike brands and just happens there are many 99 bikes shops around the country. Not necessary to buy from them.

        • This is how bad it is… When I say $600 in upgrades that's labour charge! I supply the parts myself ($900) worth of parts - if you were to buy parts over $1800.
In the end they replaced rear derailleur, chain but had no XT cassettes in stock to try and index the gears.

5 mechanics and 3 stores and no one could fix it (all mechanics who have over 3 years experience).. my gears were 100% before taking my bike in.
standard common saying "You can try a $6,000 bike and the shifting will be clunky still". Well no wonder it will be if you don't know how to index gears or follow Shimano technical guides which are all online here: https://si.shimano.com/en/

The shifting reminded me of my very first bike a fluid from anaconda which $249 for the complete bike. My derailure is worth more than that on this new bike..

I honestly trusted them whole heartedly but unfortunately I don't anymore and it's what others were saying ☹️

They are on comms and have a quota to meet. The guys building bikes have to build 18 bikes a day! These people are sent to stores from head office. That's an obscene amount of bikes a day to be building and so just be careful and get a proper mechanic to check over the bike if you don't have the tools.

          • @[Deactivated]: Worth posting the state you had this experience in because they are all run differently. Not disregarding that this may have happened and it’s definitely not acceptable but I’d be Interested which state and stores. I know that vic differs to nsw and qld

            • @peter05: Yeah was Vic. I brought it to the attention of the regional manager and heard back from him at 6:30pm on Friday as I was up shit creek without a paddle. Who do you turn to when 3 stores and 5 mechanics can't fix it?

99 bikes has some good sales on accessories and if you get a flat tyre on a weekend I'm sure they'll help. But for servicing I'd probably avoid in future.
Only problem is places like Cycle Galleria have about a week wait on servicing - most bike stores do.

This is why 99 bikes has 24 hour service times and for all the wrong reasons…

              • @[Deactivated]: Not sure which part of Vic but if you are close to Springvale, I heard they are really good. I personally never service my bikes with a shop (except I did one service on a DT Swiss hub star ratchet which I should be able to do myself even at first attempt but I thought $45 is not so bad better not to risk it.
Hope you have a better experience with other bike shops.

At this pricepoint just get on Facebook marketplace tbh, there are super cheap deals that come up occasionally for great stuff but if you're in a hurry I've seen a bunch of recent model Trek Marlins or Norco Storm for similar. New chains are cheap, easy to put on and are usually all that's needed (and can actually be resold if you decide to upgrade or it's not for you)

    • Aren't they mostly stolen ?

      • Easy to spot those ones, usually they lose about half the RRP within a year for the entry level decent brands, when I've picked up the super cheap stuff the seller's usually just rich with a garage full of toys they no longer need and don't care about the price as long as it's quick

I really don't think the average consumer can "easily" spot whether a bike listed on Facebook Marketplace is stolen or not.

The availability of bargains on there seems wildly over-hyped on this site too. I've been looking for two months in Melbourne and have yet to find one of these bargains (though granted I'm looking for a L frame, most of the ones I find are M and S - perhaps that's where the good deals are!).

          • @callum9999: Fair, usually it's the brand new profiles, ridiculously cheap, no details on the bike and just posting the brand they can see, and check the sellers profile out as well for what they've sold in the past. Oh and dodgy paint jobs are a dead giveaway lol. I've been lucky to pick up a few decent ones and damaged ones just for parts which are worth twice the price.

The bargains go quick, so just got to set your search up for all these listings and hope you look at the right time, generally the steals come up once every few weeks, otherwise it's standard second hand prices

If I needed a bike right now, and this was closer to me, I'd be looking at it.
      https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/binalong-bay/men-s-bicycles/…
Pic of Giant hybrid cos will be sold soon!

Just an example of the Gumtree deals you find occasionally. I found a semi-decent bike for $40 last year.

      • Bike was sold. Not to me as it was a 2.5 hour drive away.

Save up and find a Trek Roscoe 7, 8 or 9. Save the heartache… I've seen 7s go for $600-$800 on marketplace. Bet you could land one for $500
This is like 5 Anaconda bikes in one..
