Everyone seems to know about these TVs now…

  • I know everyone hates Harvey Wallbangers, but is there any preference that Ozbargainers have between TGG and JB?
The TCN cards can be used at TGG as well, can't they? (in reference to the 15% off Coles deal coming up)

any preference that Ozbargainers have between TGG and JB?

I prefer whichever one works out cheaper.

At the end of the day they are the same company. (JB bought TGG in 2016)

      • me too… I put it out there to see if there was anything different between the two to get it cheaper… someone pointed out 8% cashrewards…

        • Maybe TGG is better because you can get gold services free $20, and they have a lot of random StoreCash deals all the time. You won’t be able to get cashback if you use the 15% off TCN gift cards though.

    • TGG for me, staff are usually older and more helpful. JB seems to be exclusively staffed with flogs who just stand around talking about how much they're genna 'smash' on Friday night

Don't forget Good Guys Cash Rewards is 8%

  • would you consider this a good all rounder TV for this sort of price?

    • +1

I would buy a 65" C3 for 2444 over this but if you are hell bent on size this is a good deal

      • is that for the blacker blacks? I think size matters

        • +1

Its a better tv in all aspects. Oleds aren't blacker blacks. They are black. The contrast benefit it gives can't be replicated. As Mini LED tv's go this is a pretty good one and has a good price to performance. I would just take a size hit to have the best in this use case.

    • That's what I'm buying it for… upgrading from a 2015 Sony 75" 1080p which still works really well.

    • +2

I would. 2000+nits MiniLED. Great gaming performance. Android TV.
The Telegram channel that you get the new (and beta) firmware from is a bit weird, but it seems impossible to brick it which is nice.
Sony's local dimming algorithm craps all over TCLs, but TCLs is serviceable.
I love my 75" c835 (last year's model), and I couldn't resist upgrading to this (with this deal) a year later.
Caveat: I don't watch any FreeToAir and use external boxes (AppleTV, consoles, ShieldTV) for all of my viewing. I don't use any of the TVs internal apps.

      • You upgraded to 85" yeah? Otherwise no real benefit

        • On paper no, but from my short time viewing last night the extra brightness and perhaps better panel quality (screen uniformity) on this one makes the image seem much cleaner. The HDR is popping really well. So far so good. Very pleased.

      • I have a C825 looking at upgrading to the c845 would like your thoughts on 35 to 45.

        • Well I loved that I already had the latest beta firmware on a USB from my 835 (they have the same processor so run the same firmware). But to me the extra brightness is everything - and the extra size was probably the most impactful. Sooo much more detail is visible just because it’s bigger.

The blacks really are black. I know they’re not OLED black, but the OLEDs aren’t MiniLED bright either. And for $4000 over a year I now have a 75” (c835) and an 85” (c845) and they’re both amazing TVs.

      It is a great TV.
Sure OLEDs are "better", but the size of this thing along with the picture quality trump the "black is black" for me.

We got one a few months ago and everything from The Simpsons to Cricket just looks so clear and it somehow adds some .depth to a picture (it sounds weird but even the kids say it makes things lool.more.real). Of course you just chuck an Attenborough doco on to wow anyone. Being able to have a dozen people over and comfortably able to sit around and watch something (sport, movie, etc) is really good.

Some people get caught up in the little technical flaws that the vast majority of people don't even notice. Apparently there's motion issues, but as someone who watches footy, cricket, car racing, it just looks awesome. People talk about blacks not being black. I really dont notice or care if a nighttime sky isn't perfectly black, I'm usually watching the characters and listening to the dialogue.

Oh the sound is really good. We got a free soundbar, but the TV sound is as good as the samsung soundbar we had on the old tv, so I didn't bother unboxing it.

      .

      • Thanks, that's along the same thoughts I had as well… I think I'm gonna get it and try the coles gift card things if I can find them.

Great TV for the price. The only caveat is blooming and motion blur.

    • I just sold my 85 inch Sony X90K mostly because of blooming. It was so bad that I could no longer tolerate it. Other than that, great TV. Thinking if I’m to buy this TCL, I might get better blooming issue experience. However, something else might get into the picture that I didn’t have with Sony. If I could only get OLED for 5k-ish. Sigh

      • +2

If you weren't satisfied with Sony's local dimming algorithm, I would probably avoid purchasing a TCL.

        • Yeah you might be right. I thought much more dimming zones in this TCL would make a difference. Won’t it?

          • +1

@Archiebald: Theoretically, yes but good hardware means nothing without good software. What I would do in your position is wait for RTINGS to review the X80L. If blooming has improved, buy one, if it hasn't, you'll have to dig deeper for the X90L.

If we use the X90K v X90L for reference, you'll find that the blooming has improved: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x90k-x90ck-vs-s…

You could always go in store and have a look but it's quite difficult to test blooming in a bright environment.

            • +1

@Maths Debater: Thanks. Yeah I saw that comparison. According to YouTube reviewers, X90L got better in terms of blooming and brightness. Not sure if it is a big improvement or barely noticeable. And yes, testing in store might not be the best option due to bright environment and content they use to demonstrate the best capabilities and to hide drawbacks. If the price of X90L comes down as X90K did, I'll pull the trigger.

  • Had a bad experience with TCL recently re warranty. Hisense seems to be better.

    • what were they like when you had to claim the warranty? Couldn't you just take it back to the retailer? We've had the ACL for 12 years now….

  • im looking at the 75" version of this TV does it do 4k@120hz ? or Freesync VRR ?

    • It does everything, even 4K@144Hz
HDMI 2.1 ALLM VRR are even there on $600 TCL 65P745

  • Anyone have a panel with the Pentonic 700 SoC yet?
