  • Great product, love my Cycliq.

Good idea, but the price is a bit too much for the quality you get. I would rather either get DJI Osmo 3 or 4 + magicshine light today, or just magicshine all in one device tomorrow. They (magicshine) have a great value rear camera but no front one at the moment.

Depends on the use case and budget. That combo you mention costs twice as much, takes up more space on the bars, doesn't have incident protection or Strava integration.

Though I look forward to seeiing some competition for Cycliq.

      • Twice as much?
DJI Osmo 3 currently $417 (minus cashback, discounted gift cards whatever you can get for JB/Amazon purcahse).
Magicshine RN1500 around $100 on ebay (minus cashback, codes etc).
$517 vs $345 is not an x2 difference, not even close to that. But keep in mind that Cycliq is on temporary discount at the moment and DJI + Magicshine just on mormal price. Discounted price would be different. Although anyway a bundle probably a bit more expensive, but you get a much better light and a much better cam. Night and day difference.
As for more space on the bars… Possibly a bit more, but more flexibility as well. I would say overall weight and volume is compareable.
How does incident protection and strava integration work?

PS design and material wise I think Cycliq looks a bit cheap and fat… But that's a personal preference.

The price you've quoted for the Osmo is a discounted prices. RRP is $519.

And I was thinking of higher end, more expensive, Magicshine models, hence I was thinking double overall price. So you're right, that combo isn't double the price.

They still have very different use cases though. The Cycliq is primarily a safety device, and only secondarily an action camera, so the footage quality is less of any issue.

The Osmo is an action camera, so footage quality is more important. But the dimensions of Osmos make them look a bit weird on a bike. And once you add a light on you're taking up a lot more room on your bars, which I think looks terrible, so wouldn't want to run that setup on my road bike. Probably a decent option for a touring bike though.

Strava integration lets you overlay data on your footage (good for races). Incident protection just saves the footage rather than continuing to overwrite in the event of an accident.

          • @prhino: Fly 12 Height: 29.5mm. Width: 50.7mm. Depth: 80.1mm. Weight: 148g. 1224 mm3 volume
            DJI action 3: 70 x 44 x 31.8 mm Weight 145 g. 985 mm3 volume
Similar dimensions front profle and weight, volume is around 30% bigger in Cycliq.
Of course, if we add magicshine than the size and weight of the bundle will be bigger.
If one places DJI and Magicshine on one mount (camera on top and light underneath or the other way around) it will be reasonably compact.
Action 3 or 4 is an action camera, yes. So using it as just a dashcam is hamerring nails with a microscope. But if you want to double up as a dash AND action camera - you will be able to do that. In very poor light conditions Action will allow to see a rego or a face for identifaction, Fly12 won't.
Magshine RN1500 provides 1500 certified lumens. Fly12 provides 400 lumens of light.

I would wait for an all in one device from Magicshine though, will be interesting to see how much better and cheaper it is compared to Cycliq. Magicshine rear light dashcam is great is only around $150.

@Musiclover: If you're using a single mount, where do you put your Garmin?

The Cycliq works well in low light. No issues at all reading numberplate or identifying faces.

It also does everything the Osmo / Magshine does, albeit not as well in some cases.

The Osmo / Magshine combo does some things better than the Cycliq, but doesn't do some things the Cycliq does. And some things it doesn't do as well.

If I was choosing separate camera and light, I'd definitely go for a much better light than that particular Magshine.

I hope DJI releases a better integrated device than the Cycliq, that acts as a great action and safety camera. And given their size I'm sure they will.

              • @prhino: I do not use a cycling computer, just a garmin watch.
If Cycliq is perfect in low light, I can only imagine what DJI does then! Does Fly12 have an active hardware image stabilization? Otherwise the video will be pretty shakey.
Magicshine RN1500 is a much better light than Fly12. Which one is a "much better than magicshine rn1500"?

                • @Musiclover: I'd avoid the low end Magicshine and go for at least a midrange model. Or better yet go for Exposure. Ayup or Niterider.

    • I think battery life is also a difference.

Google says DJI osmo 3 is up to 160 minutes.

The cycliq claims to be up to 600 mins (720p X 30 fps) no light and up to 360 mins with flashing light.

So if your rides are > 160 mins, maybe the osmo is not so.

My mistake. I was looking at the cycliq 12.
The cycliq 12 sport is 420 minutes without light and up to 390 minutes with light.

      • DJI Action 4 is 200 mins in 720p. So if you ride is longer than that - yep, will need to carry a spare battery. And hats off to you.

        • Nice. I own the 1st generation cycliqs. I dont use it all that much. Sometimes, when I think the route I am doing needs it.

Though the DJI 4 is $200+ more expensive. Around $630+?

So if you're getting that and the magicshine for about $100… so that is about $730 all up.

vs this for less than 1/2 that?

          Hmmm….

  • 6 axis stabilisation?

    Up down
    Left right
    Forward backwards

    What are the last three?

      forward/back, up/down, left/right, yaw, pitch, roll
