  • These are great bang for buck at this price, very solid headphones.

  • Just to provide a means of comparison, the more popular known product for audiophiles is the DT 770 Pros from BeyerDynamic. But they go for $100 more on average.
With that in mind this is a good price. You get that level of product for a significantly less amount of money spent. Build Quality appears to be the only concession, otherwise you are looking at open vs closed back pros and cons. Soundstage and Bass handling is different as well.

    • I have the Fidelio's and find their build quality outstanding - even without factoring in the price.

      • I personally found the build quality reasonable (some of the trim popped out a bit) what is truly remarkable is the DESIGN quality. The two solid steel rods forming the frame will last forever, the suspended headband is not that crap fake leather, so mine are 5yo and still as good as ever. The earpads are replaceable, the cables detachable. They are the perfect design.

  • Great set of headphones for the price. Bought these for ~$180 exactly 3 years ago in a Prime Day sale. Have thoroughly enjoyed listening to them.

"I cannot recommend the Philips without EQ. With EQ, it is close to getting my recommendation. At the end, I decided to pass. You may disagree and I would be fine with it. :)"

I dislike when reviews say they don't recommend a product but then don't offer alternatives and include the price comparison.
Should be "I cannot recommend the Philips without EQ. With EQ, it is close to getting my recommendation.. I would reccomend xyz instead at $20 more…." blah blah blah.

    • He makes hundreds of reviews and provides a "review index" with every single headphone, amp, DAC and streamer he has reviewed. He is here just to show measurements not to be your personal headphone helper. Go to the index sort by price and pick what he recommends. Also amirm isn't the best headphone reviewer or listener so most people use him only for DAC/amp measurements.

In b4 Jasswolf says these are shit and you should buy Hifiman

Great headphones at a great price, had mine for a while now and used them heavily - they are as new, still enjoy them very much

    • It's not a great price any more… really should be $120-$130, and that's with a huge asterisk given the HE400SE non-Stealth that you've hinted at.

I live in hope that Reddit - or whatever discussion forum reinforces this viewpoint - hasn't totally destroyed your mind

      • But will you need a headphone amp with the HE400SE? That would take the total cost even higher. What price has the HE400SE dropped to in the past. I could only see the stealth magnet version on Amazon.

        • +1

Neither require a powerful headphone amp, but one will improve far more from it.

You can access the non-Stealth on AliE and Taobao, as it is resold from China.

@jasswolf: Thanks. I bought my Sundara on Amazon, but they shipped directly from China.

            • @trippy: Yeah that's coming direct from HIFIMAN, but they have a local representative for warranty, so it's all covered with a local warranty and under ACL.

  • Agree with most people here. Before anyone comes in with audiophile speak these are awesome for the price. Watching movies with these on is something else too!

  • I have the Sennheiser HD599se, is the X2HR a meaningful uprgrade? Would the X2HR need a Dac?

    • No. They are of similar audio quality. X2HR are bulky but more comfortable imo.

    • X2HR are lower impedance by quite a bit so i guess it depends what is driving them

    • You have the better headphone, work towards a meaningful upgrade or a headphone/earphone to meet different requirements (eg. a closed back).

  • Would these in any way compliment HD600?

    • No. Would take the HD600 over these any day.

    • -3

HD600 are open back so all ambient sound will come through. Perfect for vocal booths and where you need to be completely aware of your environment, but probably not what most people are looking for for general listening.

Looking at the frequency response of these I probably wouldn't buy them anyway because with the styles of music I like listening to they would mangle the sound. For the price, they're cheap for what they do, so okay, but you'd have a better long term experience just paying a little more for better headphones.

      • Both the X2HR and HD600 are open back, they're fine for general listening in any environment where it's quieter and people aren't too close.

They also EQ just fine, default they're more V-shaped "fun" headphones, but they're not overly bloaty like some others (ie. I came from the M50x before the X2's). These things are also solid as hell and have been around for years (although it's a different manufacturer now), they'll last a long time.

    • No, you'd want to target something more detail and imaging oriented, or get a closed back if you don't have a solid one.

    • Unpopular opinion: yes, for the bass 😈
