        • Well, via my sources, Mayonnaise and Aioli who live in the BlackHawk office staff fridge, they were planning on it, but after a recent cyber security incident which has not been publicly announced yet (and I doubt it will), they have chosen against it.

  • -1

wtf - we posting deals now based on unverified sources?

    • +1

      it's dealbot, thats verification enough

      • +3

He has been wrong before. (and that's just 1 example)

        • +5

you really went back almost a year for that one - and he posts more than twice a day on average.

          • +5

@fratzhaus: I should also note, I used to work at BIG W in the home ent dept, the catalogue deal is in is definitely already circulated across stores in preparation, making this deal more than believable.

  • +1

It's wild how cheap that is, I sold my ps5 for $650 this week, a year old, used.

    • with extra accessories plus games?

  • +1

In the words of Borat… "Very niiice"

  • I feel like this is just the standard price consider the slim is out.

  • Now this is what I am waiting for!

  • -4

nooooo! I just got the console on it's own from Costco on the weekend for $779 because my kids didn't want to wait for potential black Friday sales

    • +22

You paid $779 for just the console? A week before the Black Friday sales start? Duuuuuude.

    • +17

Hand in your OZB badge right now.

      • +6

        Or give the kids away

        • +1

definitely the kids! but they were paying for half and wanted it now now now

          • +1

@kimmi: Good on you for making them pay half. Now just let them know how much they could have saved and it's a lesson learnt.

            • +1

@sween64: life lesson is i get the cheaper one, return the more expensive one and don't give them back their half of the refund because they were happy to pay more.

    • +2

Try returning to Costco if you just got it.

    • +1

You can use it and return it under 90 days change of mind

      • i'm very tempted to, or wait to see if costco drop their prices and then get a refund on the difference. i wonder if i can just give costco the bigw console? they "registered" it when i purchased it though so I don't know if that means they recorded serial numbers or something.

  • +11

I don't understand the "wait for slim" comments. You want to pay $800 for a console that looks almost identical to this one without a game? Not only that, but imagine paying $50 for a vertical stand LOL. Sony are taking the piss and people are happily supporting it.

    • -8

You are paying for the efforts of a group of designers and engineers over the past 3 years to enhance the console design.

      • +11

        Efforts that nobody asked for?

        • -3

You're just speaking for yourself. Plenty have asked for a redesign and to make it smaller. The new reboot also allows more repair-ability. Things like the disc drive and cell battery can now be easily replaced if needed.

          • @Fuzor: Well… seems like the tribe has spoken…. XD

      • +5

Usually redesigns are expected to have a LOT more quality of life improvements such as lower power draw, improved efficiency, etc. As it is, the changes are largely cosmetic (new cooling system to fit the same components into a smaller chassis) and likely reduced bill of materials/supply chain optimisation costs that are probably NOT being passed on to the consumer.

        • +3

Only not though. Same chipset, same die size, same power draw as shown in many videos. You literally just get a smaller PS5.

          • +2

            @Weemo0: Yeah exactly.

          • +1

@Weemo0: Yes in a smaller case with a much smaller fan. PS5s were overheating day one I'm sure this didn't a recipe for disaster. They use less material but will charge more because consumer must buy

      • +3

The Steam Deck OLED is enhanced.

The PS5 is a cost cutting measure.

    • It’s not identical, it has same performance with smaller size and more storage, but it’s not a bargain as a new SKU and since the chip inside did not change at all, it’s not a “slim” version.

  • +1

will EB games price match this? I wanna trade in my old PS4 and switch lite towards it haha

  • Damn, that's dirt cheap.

  • +2

Is this a midnight thing? Does it go live at midnight?
Do I have to contend with bots?

  • +2

To everyone saying wait for the slim, Sony themselves aren’t even calling it the “slim” model, it’s just the new PS5 (presumably it felt dishonest to call it slim when it’s only modestly decreased in size). It’s not going to be on special for close to $600 like the PS5 has been several times over the last few months and there is little real reason to recommend the slim, and it’s somehow even more ugly too.

    • -1

Well said, Sony have successfully managed to make it look worse than it already does.

      • +2

probably been taking lessons from BMW. LOL

    • -2

It says Slim in the title on the playstation website https://direct.playstation.com/en-us/buy-consoles/playstatio…

      • That's just the model group, the word "slim" does not appear anywhere on their official trailer nor the retail packaging. It's just an unofficial name for it.

  • Is the Spiderman worth anything to sell?

  • +1

This honestly seems to good to be true… amazing deal if real.

    • -2

I hope it's real. Will only know once it comes and i see it and feel it. And taste it with my own body.

Reminds me of the time I bought a verrrry nice surfboard from China, verrry nice deal. Waited over 2 months, very slow, but tracked parcel.

Finally received it in the mail. It was a 'cartier' ring box (fake of course), worth nothing more than $1 if anything. Fk me. Thanks for reading.

  • Starting to think there will never be real bargains for this generation of console.

    • +4

For the hardware you're getting, I feel the price is fair. The original PS3 selling for $999 at release was a rort.

      • I dunno. I grabbed one of those used, 12 month warranty Radeon 6800s from that deal a couple of weeks back for what amounted to a bit more than $400 and I'm now playing Cyberpunk in legitimate 4k with most settings on ultra on PC.

The more locked down the market for console games is the less interesting consoles are, too.

By this stage in its lifecycle IMHO the PS5 should be $400 or thereabouts on sale, like the Switch. I guess Sony is still making enough money at this price though…

        • It launched at 749 then last year got to 799.

          680 with Spiderman 2 it's a good deal.

The Switch never has received any price cuts and it also launched at a lower price than the PS5.

It's more like apples to oranges comparison.

          • @kazuyamishima: Eh, I don't think you can measure how good a deal this is against Sony's past unreasonable pricing of the same item.

Earlier generations of console were significantly cheaper by this stage in their lifecycle. To me it reeks of legitimate inflation issues coupled with profiteering by Sony.

  • +2

Just a reminder that the OG PS5 will NOT be sold along side the new model so this a great opportunity to get your hands on one before stock dries up.

  • How many big w digital gift card you can redeem per transaction ?

  • Can you use multiple Prezzee cards?

  • This is the slim model?

    • +3

Nope, same old obese PS5 you know and love.

  • So is this an online only thing and won’t be available at that price instore?

Gone in 10 secs when the clock strikes 12am online? With only 1 available in the whole big w nationwide? Or do we have a chance?

    • wait, who said it's an online thing?

    • I wouldn't worry about it. There will be plenty more BF deals.

  • Doesn't the Big W black friday sale start on the 21st? I thought this would be part of that

    • My understanding was that this was starting the 21st aswell and its not this bundle but the console and game separate that when scanned come up at this price not the bundle with the key as shown here.

      • Oh interesting. I have noticed good guys have this price already without the game

  • +1

For an adult male that grew up with the C64, Amiga 500 then on to Xbox (original) … having nothing since then … would any suggest the PS5 or Xbox ?
(Fav games back then were Elite, Mech Warrior, Doom)

    • +2

It depends what you value, PS5 exclusives or Xbox ecosystem.

Xbox value is pretty hard to beat with Game Pass. You could easily play all the games you want to including AAA titles with a subscription and not even purchase a game for $89+.

      • Thanks for that … I'll keep an eye out for whatever the current Xbox is am now ready to re-enter the consol gaming world.

    • Back in the day what mattered most to me was what my mates had so I could play online with them. More and more games nowadays have crossplay though so even that is losing relevance. If that isn't a consideration, then really it's somewhat much of a muchness besides the few exclusives and niche OS gimmicks. Gamepass is probably the biggest point of difference really (though PS5 has a similar system as well).

  • What's the benefit buying this console instead of using my ps4 for gaming?

    • Allows up to 4k @120hz. Obviously a lot faster and a lot of newer games aren't coming out on older consoles like Spiderman 2. I'd say going forth no big triple AAA titles will be released on older consoles I feel like Hogwarts legacy was lucky to make the cut and that was released months after it's initial release. I'm sure there's a lot of other newer features that most users won't notice. If you aren't interested in newer games or a newer experience then honestly very little benefits.

      • thanks I dont have a 4k tv so not going to shell out 679 need to use that for xmas.

        • Yeah to get the most out of a PS5 I'd personally want a 4k 120hz monitor which is pricey. I personally notice more of a difference with higher frame rates then I do with higher resolution. If you can wait longer I'm sure you'll find a better price in future and you'll probably lose interest in current games and be wanting what's new at the time so technically you'll save yourself a bit there given the price of new PS5 games.

          • @lookingforadeal7: Does PS5 support 4K 120hz in a lot of games?

            • @DontNeedThis: I just checked and it's a very short list which I'm a little disappointed by, the Series X has a lot more games but they use "FPS boost" in a good amount so I'm guessing that's some AI frame boost and I've read the 4K is usually just upscaled 1080p in most games so I suppose I wouldn't fork out the amount for a 4k monitor. Also if the game supports it it doesn't necessarily mean it will sit at 120hz its more of a performance mode. Really big let down for me might have actually turned me off from buying a console I'll just stick to PC.

              • @lookingforadeal7: Yeah I was surprised when you said it allows 4K up to 120hz. I mean it obviously does, but I didn't expect it to include a lot of games. Even some of the highest end OC graphics cards struggle at 4K at those framerates.

          • @lookingforadeal7: Persnally I have a 1080p (FHD) screen, and am still buying this PS5.

            FUtureproofing.

  • Can we buy in-store?

    • +1

      Yes, you can.

  • Can we get a price match at JB?

    • Yes, you can.

  • Nice, waiting for a decent PS5 deal. My kids have been nagging me for an upgrade from a PS4 Pro. I guess xmas present sorted. A couple of months ago I've seen pricing for around the $650 mark and I assumed that was the new RRP for the PS5, sadly I was wrong.

  • only reason id buy this would be for GTA 6, (trailer will release first half of December). now wait for ps5 slim or buy now?

    • Buy this and add M2 SSD

    • I'm in the same boat. GTA is probably still another year-ish away…

  • +1

Hmmm this or wait for the new ps5…..

  • Is this their black friday sale

Or will there be better black friday sales coming - what does one doooooo

  • All that is fine, but can you fire up your Tarot cards to see where the interest rate is going and the powerball winning number?

  • They removed it from the website in WA. They weren’t remotely “sold out” moments before

  • interesting, can't even add the $904 bundle to cart

also the game has just come up at $20 - https://www.bigw.com.au/product/marvel-s-spider-man-2-ps5/p/…

    • Can add the bundle fine into my cart.
Game was probably only supposed to be $20 when bundled with the console ($659 + $20), but someone's messed up.

  • +2

If you are not going to play the Spiderman2 game and happy to sell the digital key, please PM me.

    • +1

This is actually a great idea to increase the value of the deal. Sell the digital copy of SM2 and buy a physical version, then sell the physical when you’re done!

      • How do you NOT get scammed though

  • +1

I was able to pickup this deal at Good Guys just now. $679.00 with a physical copy of Spiderman 2.

    • Oh!!! Is it in-store only, I can't see the deal with Spiderman 2 physical copy on the website, also which store please :)

    • on the website, doesn't show that it's the Spiderman 2 bundle. Mind posting the receipt?

      • What's the best way to post the receipt?

        • I've seen people use https://imgur.com/

            • @BarginDredd: Thanks so much for that.

I just called my local good guys, they had the ps5 for $679 but said it does not come with a game. I Tried to search the game part number 160836 on the website and doesn't come up but will walk into store and try.

              • @MonkeyMagic3: How did it go mate, I tried finding the game at their website, does not even show up, infact I could not find a single game on their website.

                • +2

@mannyTheMemmoth: yea super odd. Haven't had a chance to go to the store yet. Will report back when I do. I did place an order over the phone as they only had 2 consoles left in stock, but didn't make the payment as I want to try in store to get the game as well.

Who knows if there will still be any stock left, as no payment means no stock reservation…apparently.
