Smart Dimmer Switch Options

looking at smart dimmer switch options
- I know there is shelly dimmer modules, but it seems like its hard to get a nice push button that works with them like for example most of them seem mushy etc seems as though some people just use toggle light swtiches, but obviously that doesnt reflect the state the of the light

  • alternatively there is the powermesh switches which look really nice and the dimmer have a brightness indicator I would like to know if these switches feel nice

  • another choice would be iconic wiser apparently the wiser buttons, but some people report these buttons dont feel great, although their advert say their dimmer buttons are clicky, would like to know what people think of these? but i have heard they can dim most led lights to really low percentages and they do have two way switches

  • would like to hear someones feedback about legrand excel life zigbee switches, also I heard they are zigbee 3.0 so it may even work with hue hub? would anyone know? i saw on their forums that someone got them to work with an echo hub but it only showed on/off states

  • finally you could get a brillant dimmer mech which has the button integrated into the mech, which you could just use with local tuya on home assistant, but I hear the build quality isnt great and it can only dim to about 25%

hue dimmer switch with home assistant, awesome remote

    • Agreed. Button controls should be battery powered Zigbee.
If you need to have dumb light sources, they can be wired to separate, hidden physical switches that are also controlled by Zigbee or equivalent. " legrand excel life " is doing things the wrong way, by forcing together the user controls and electrical dimmer.

A Hue hub is a good way to tie all your smart bulbs and Hue dimmer switches together, and connect them to Home Assistant, Google Home, etc.

you dont really need hue hub (can use a like sonoff zigbee dongle or skyconnect too (to control all zigbee devices, instead of just hue)).

But that hue dimmer switch lasts like 2-4 years for 1 battery for me, 4 buttons (but can act like 16 buttons (like 1 short press, release, 1 long press release etc. etc.) at least with homeassistant integrations, and home assistant allows that hue dimmer switch to talk to literrally any other device in home assitant (not just hue ones, like LIFX for me rn) )

        • Hue Hub is not needed, but nice.
I use the "Hue essentials" app to program the Hub to use all buttons on the dimmer.
          https://play.google.com/store/search?q=hue%20essentials&c=ap…

And you can still have HA actions triggered by dimmer buttons, though maybe slower.

Though with Hue saying they will force people to use an account, I may have to reconsider.

  • Smart lights have driven a paradigm shift for me, none are operated by switch - only voice, sensors and automations.
