apple really hv been pumping these gift cards with promo .. like seriously allot this year…..

    • -3

every time I comment saying how often these occur at Colesworth I get negged….. deal still sucks

bring back some 15% decent gift cards like Ultimate or TCN

      • +2

There were 15% off cards the other month. 10% is still 10% though, and at least you're not bound by any rules around which products are eligible to purchase or not.

        • When was "the other month"? I don't think its been for a year or more.

            • @b3au: That 15% off through gift.card or 10% off through gift.card has only been maybe once this year.

Someone worked out that the 20x at Colesworth is only about 8% off by the time you redeem them.

I bought $100 cards from gift.card both times I saw them on sale and I only saw them twice. Trying to redeem the money through flybuys or Everyday rewards is a painful process as they often don’t offer TCN cards as a redemption- sometimes yes, but more often - this maybe have been in 2022 you couldn’t redeem for TCN cards.

The ultimate card is great because it has OW, JB and TGG iirc. Unless I am getting them mixed up with the Orange KIDS cards which have JB and OW on them. I have a few pinned to the fridge. Only got one $50 Kids left - was going to convert to Apple Card.

          • @the crocodile: 26th September.

Apologies, they weren't specifically for Apple GC's. But you'd buy the Ultimate GC's, add them to your Apple wallet and then buy the Apple GC's at JB Hi Fi's. I pocketed around $2500 from that deal, but it didn't take long for all JB's to be out of stock, as many were doing the same thing. I wasn't in a rush though so I only got mine switched to Apple GC's last week when the new stock arrived in store.

            • @KangaDrew: i just brought JB gift cards. i mean JB will have a better deal than apple itself on apple products for one or the other reason

              • +1

@glenf: YMMV on that point. To my knowledge, JB's only ever max out their discount at 10% and that's for stock-standard items only, i.e. no customisation options. Anything that needs to be configured (MacBooks for example) aren't available through JB's at the 10% discount. Also, I'm not sure if they offer 10% on new release devices straight away, but I may be mistaken on that point.

      • They won’t bring back 30x or 15% off when people are going nuts over this deal

        • Apple gift cards are rubbish!

          • @Poor Ass: i agree, like what do you buy with this? apple tv? music? Like its 2023 are people still buying one song or one episode? It's a total waste of money

            • @girafficlight: apparently you can buy devices but I reckon you can get them cheaper elsewhere

maybe it makes them feel more genuine as it came direct from Apple but these deals are tooooooo frequent

    • +3

Its not run by Apple. Its the retailer giving up profit to get the sales growth. Easy way to get extra sales due to high demand and higher value purchases. Take bread for example to get $100 in sales Woolies will need to sell 22.4 loafs vs 1 gift card.

      • yeah.. any promotion is to drive human traffic through the door…

'hmm let's get the iTunes card on offer, oh! let's get the milk also while we're there!' …. :)

by the way, bread is probably 50% profit compared to iTunes cards.. :P

Save these up for when the ATO needs you to pay your balance with them

      • ????

        • A worn-out joke. But serious to the point where they now have warning saying you can't use these to buy other things.

          • -2

            @kerfuffle:

they now have warning saying you can't use these to buy other things.

Thanks OP!! I already jumped into the Coles one last week coz wasn’t sure of woolies will have it this week. Much prefer everyday rewards scheme than flybuys. Either way! Great post hehehe

Does anyone know if flybuys have a limit on how much you can use at coles? Went to target and wanna use my flybuys but could only redeem the max of $20 🫠

    • +1

No limit for Flybuys dollars at Coles perhaps $1000. Just load it up using the app and swipe your Flybuys card. You can set your own pin. Just pay as a savings /gift card. Did $150 once.

      • +1

I don't carry the physical card with me. Makes no sense why you need to when you are already scanning the card on your apple wallet. And just make it automatic like woolies not having to login and convert blah… just copy woolies basically, same goes for their 10% off mobile deal. Feels like all these easy wins Coles could do.

        • +3

At least you know no one's stealing your flybuys dollars, unlike Woolies:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/809900
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/651164

        • Thanks guys! Was shocked to found out target only allows $20 max.

I shall go into Coles to try it tonight, never really been a huge flybuys user and I felt better to know it’s not like a max of $20 per transaction. :D

I ended up redeeming a small portion of points into physical Coles gift cards via flybuys web-store, in case the flybuys points is hard to use at coles. I was surprised that they couldn’t send it via e-giftcard, but had to physically post it - which will take 3 weeks.

Apparently Coles claimed using physical card is more ‘secure’ - which is kinda true, since I did have my everyday rewards point hacked a little while ago. Woolies was able to replaced the card number and gave back all the points I lost fairly quickly though.

Agreed it would have been heaps more easy and convenient if it’s like Woolies though. Definitely easy wins for coles if they did! Even if it’s just for the things like points auto conversion.

  • So how much %off this offer is equivalent to?

    • +7

Basically 10% of the Apple gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points

      • 👍 thanks

      • Gets out pop corn

  • +2

wws give a limitation of giftcard $1000 per day, which let you buy only 500+499.99 in one transaction, unhappy with this.

    • The WWs I went to allowed me to purchase 2 x 500 at the same time. There was just a security check the clerk had to press yes

      • yes 500*2 allowed now

        • Any more than this allowed? Or just 2x500? What if they're done in different transactions?

    • No

  • much more prefer woolies reward pts than flybuy

  • +9

Be careful with the newest scam around- where they replace the gift card inside of the envelope with a fake one. To prevent you from being a victim, open the envelope on the spot, in front of the cashier, and check if the card inside has the same serial number as the envelope and is for the same amount.

    • Sounds like BS to me. Why would anyone steal the gift card when it is a worthless piece of paper until its activated?

      • Simple, it’s worth up to 500 when activated. All they have to do is keep checking the cards a few times a day to see which one was activated. Almost Any idiot can write a script to do that automatically.

        • Apologies, I’m then worse than an idiot…,I have no clue how to write code to do that…..

          • @bagachin: I said almost any ;) jokes aside, gangs sophisticated enough to put together a scam like this one will definitely know how to do it

  • why wollies reward is better than flybuy?

    • +5

probably because woolies app is more superior towards using the points and card storage

I mean Flybuys is good too but it's not there yet regards to their app

      • I couldn't agree more. It's not even close to being "there'. It's barely there compared to Woolies. Woolies has got a very smart and innovative product/dev team.

    • +1

Personally coz of the points auto conversion! Woolies just converts it. Whether flybuys will require you to convert it on your own. Also can’t use the flybuys point at Bunnings, even though you can collect points (you can buy physical Bunnings gift card via flybuys web store - but the physical card takes a while to be received) and target - you can only redeem max of $20 worth of points, etc.

      • Mine convert at the register at Coles. We do nothing just redeem when they ask if we want $10 off.

  • I can't see the difference between woollies reward and flybuy points

Qantas vs velocity is a big difference

  • +2

Guys just be careful with apple gift cards from woolies AT THE MOMENT. I've heard rumours that, there has been a manufacturing error and incorrect gift card values have been placed into wrong containers. In a $100 gift card packet, only has a $50 gift card inside, then woolies wont support fixing this as they think the customer is trying to scam them….

I would advise checking the inside before leaving… It seems to be really hush hush at the moment with some stores removing the cards from show, but others still selling…..

    • +2

Sounds like someone might be swapping the cards.

      • How so? Woolies Apple gift cards are sealed? you cant see the gift card without opening the packet?

        • +1

Maybe scammers opened it, do a swapsee and then glued it back? Don’t know. You best off to open it on the spot prior to paying, check if the inside serial number and value matches the outside sleeve. Could also be a manufacturing fault.. who knows :/

        • +10

I bought one yesterday that had been tampered with. I believe they do it by cutting open the seam at the bottom of the packet and then glueing it shut again. This leaves the seal intact. If they do it well, it's almost impossible to tell without actually trying to open the gift card.

Because of the glue, I had to tear mine open. The sticker with the gift card code inside was a high quality fake. The denomination was incorrect and the serial number obviously didn't match with the one on the outside of the gift card packet but aside from that, it would probably convince a lot of people.

If you're buying an Apple gift card, I'd highly recommend opening it at the checkout to ensure everything is as it should be. Getting a refund after you've already bought and activated the card is not easy.

          • @VantageXL: How are they doing that instore though? doesnt make sense….. This would make an interesting case for your local consumer bodies… as technically Woolies have supplied that to you :S

            • +2

@Mintee: They don’t do the tampering in-store. They steal the cards from the shelves and then they put back them later.

              • @VantageXL: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……. interesting…..

                • @Mintee: yea afaik there are nos security tags inside cards, as they are only activate at PoS. Hence easy to sneak in and out.

          • @VantageXL: Did you manage to get a refund from Woolies?

            • @tinks828: To be honest, I forgot about it. They wouldn't give me one on the spot but I will try to follow it up this week.

              • @VantageXL: I'm in the same boat as well. Bought $600 worth of Gift cards that were tampered. Contacted Apple and Woolworths, they are just pointing the blame at each other and not willing to do anything about it.

        • +5

One of my 500 aud gift card envelopes came with a 50 aud card inside. The printing was of inferior quality, and the envelope lid was cut, making it possible that the original was actually replaced by this fake without breaking the seal. It’s very well done (the scam), you only notice the lid is not sealing the envelope after breaking the seal.

          • @pragmaticguy: @pragmaticguy Did you manage to get a refund? I have been in constant communication with Apple and Woolworths and they are unable to do anything.

            • @tinks828: Yes I did, but only because I called Apple immediately and got them to lock the gift card based on the card number on the envelope. This means the money was not redeemed

              • @pragmaticguy: @pragmaticguy How did you get the refund? I asked the store manager from Woolworths for a refund, they wouldn't budge.

                • @tinks828: Sent an email to , in my case it was Coles, customer care with all pics. Also accused them of being negligent, since they are well aware of these issues and are just letting it happen without any additional precautions during checkout

        • Not just Woolies!!!! I purchased a $50 Apple gift card from Coles on Sunday! Opened today and a $200 inside! I thought - nice!!! But couldn't redeem it!!! Have an open support case with Coles now - will see what happens! Not happy.

          • +2

@xbomber: Offt this is going to be an interesting battle…. Technically Woolies/Coles are still the supplier of the product….

            • @Mintee: Yeah - I will get over it - but feel sorry for people if they buy gifts for people for Xmas and their friends cannot redeem them! If they know cards are being replaced with fakes they should be pulling them from the shelves!

              • @xbomber: You're willing to lose $50! Geeze…. that's like a weeks savings!

                • @Mintee: No not really! I assume Coles or Apple can see which Apple ID redeemed the gift card I paid for! But preparing myself for disappointment!

                  • @xbomber:

I assume Coles or Apple can see which Apple ID redeemed the gift card

Why would Coles be able to see which Apple ID redeemed the GC?
Apple definitely can, but will probably not share that data with you unless you are law enforcement with a warrant.

          • @xbomber: What coles tell you ?

            • @MANUTD1999: I just got reply from coles this morning and after investigation they refunded me the $50 !!! So happy with that!

    • Omg it is not rumours I wish i can read this post before I bought gift cards today… all the gift cards that I bought are invalid…. Guys i m so depressed now… i have contracted woolworths hopefully they will help me out….

      • @MANUTD1999 Did you get your gift cards sorted out? I have been in constant communication with Apple and Woolworths and they are unable to do anything.

  • -4

Fantastic, just what I need to pay my ATO bill.

    • +1

Nah mate ATO wants Google gift cards this time

  • For those who have auto convert to qantas points on their everyday rewards, is this a better deal than the Cole’s flybuys 20x points?

    • I think so, if you are collecting Qantas.

  • HI, what is the go with apple gift cards? What can you actually use them for except buying apple products or itunes etc ??

    • Ahem, apple gift cards can buy anything and everything that apple sells ( including appstore, subscriptions etc ).

Obviously cant take the apple gift card to rebel and demand a pair of shorts :)

  • Considering how woollies has been price gouging us for food, this deal is not as good as the previous years

  • -1

I think that any time you cash in Rewards points ($10) you don't gain any points for what you buy.

    • +6

      Not true.

  • +1

What is the maximum load on the variable gift cards? Looking to ideally get around ~1500 for a new iphone 15

    • +2

As seen in the catalogue, the variable loads are $20-$500.

    • +1

You may have to purchase them across multiple days. The WWs I went to had a limit of <$1000 per transaction.

Otherwise you could buy 5x $200 in 2 transactions?

      • The WWs I went to allowed me to purchase 2 x 500 at the same time. There was just a security check the clerk had to press yes on.

  • Checked my local Woolworth and purchased some, all packages sealed safely.

  • +3

    15% off or no deal

    • Wonder if this stacks with the 30x points boost…

  • +2

I had the 20x points on Apple Gift Cards come up in my Rewards app as a 'boost' item.

Do it actually have to be boosted before they are awarded? I thought since it's advertised publicly then it would be automatic for all Rewards members.

    • +1

No, you don't need to boost it. If you look at the terms for the offer as shown in the app, it says in bold:

You do not need to boost this offer

  • Bought 2399 for 4x500+399. Points received and giftcards used. Thanks!

    • Did staff flag you down for it? Mine did and asked for abn. Got a similar amount to you

      • +1

Nope, just the usual are you being scammed question.

      • For me, the woolies cashier added a bogus company name 🤷

    • Have you received the bonus points?

  • +3

    Guys……

Dont buy those giftcards… I think i had scam to buy those gifts card at ww. it said cannot redeem code…. I dont know what apple will solve the problem.. calling customer support now.

  • +1

I just went to Woolies to get $2k worth, and they made me put it through as two transactions of $1k each because of "their system"

I totally missed this detail in the T&Cs

For variable card where you choose the amount to load, limit of 10 cards per day per Rewards Member in a single transaction.

So I got 20k ER points on the first transaction and zero on the second. Might give ER a call and see if they take pity on me.

    • I used online chat for ER customer service after a similar thing happened to me - they credited the ER points. Appeared as 'goodwill credit'. I was purchasing 1k and made to do in 2 x $500 amounts though (variable load cart)
