Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including August 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" " or "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong. Possible fraud scenario: API returns during purchase - credit to @himalpatel. Live chat advised that if you faced the above fraud scenario message, you need to use your friends details (aka a completely different details) to order
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

I've given up. No point trying anymore. Same error message for last few months.

    • Have you tried different credit cards for each transaction?

      • +1

I have tried different cards, names, addresses, phone number, networks, devides. Still same error.

        • Me too I get the same error. Pretty annoying. I tried a different devices, network, phone number and names.

          • @Cocochicken: Last time, I have ordered 4, same everything no issue at all. Not sure what else can I do now

    • Same - also just got a new CC and still an error :( Unlike some others, I actually need the new SIM for family visiting from overseas

      • Use their details (on a local library computer lol) when they arrive. Boost used to take 11 days to deliver to me in rural NSW. The last SIM came in just 3 days. Not sure what they fixed?

You could also watch Colesworths. Both regularly have Lebara (Vodafone) 70GB SIMs on special for $9, usually on different weeks. There's a larger one too… 100GB maybe? For $12 I think? (I forget now.) You can buy these ones when they come on sale and activate them months later. Not sure if you still get double data though, so the data might halve.

    • +2

I ordered one in the last deal yesterday or the day before. If it arrives in 3 days like last time (instead of the 11 it usually takes), I might start a forwarding service. ;-D

      • I buy 20x SIMs.
      • I post I have 20x SIMs coming.
      • 20x people pay me… I dunno… $1 + postage (what's a letter cost now… $1.20?) and give me their address.
      • 3 days later SIMs arrive.
      • Another 3 days buyers receive them from me.

I get the cashback, $1 covers envelope, stamp, and petrol to post office. People who are locked out get a $2.20 SIM.

Then it's ME who gets flagged.

Might steal that idea off ya. Lol!

      • Good idea. I used to think similarly. One risk is not getting cashback as they don't activate in 30 days.

        • How do they know whether it was activated or not?

Most of the time I don't bother activating and the cashrewards still comes through.

          • @Xishnik: What!?

So what do you do with the SIMs?

I might start a metal recycling empire from all the SIM tray ejector tools.

            • @[Deactivated]: Unless I have a specific need for a new number I don't do anything specific with them although I do give some away to family and friends if they need it.

You make the profit regardless so anything else that you do with the sim is just a bonus on top of the profit x number of sim packs that you ordered.

            • @[Deactivated]: If I didn't have to y'know, work, I'd be making a suit of scale mail armour out of mine.

          • @Xishnik: Boost knows and they can decline cashback whenever they start getting serious I suppose

            • @bcYield: But how do they know specifically who and which sim was or was not activated and to which cashrewards order that specific sim is tied to?

              • @Xishnik: There is a unique barcode printed on a blue sticker that they apply your address label over. So they know, or at least they have a system in place to know, which sim is being sent to which customer for which order.

They just need to care to check whether that sim was activated within 30 days of purchase.

                • @wavesgreen: I see. I guess they haven't really cared enough to check then so far.

                  • @Xishnik: At the end of the day it's Telstra, so them caring to do anything really is up in the air.

        • Yeah I thought of that about 7 seconds after hitting "Post Comment" lol.

      • Criminals would love the discounted anonymous SIMs. 😅

Before: Is it worth the time for $3?

Now: Is it worth the time for "getting error"?

    • After buying 7 through Feb and early March, only a couple at a time, no excessive purchases or anything, I started getting the "Something Went Wrong" message, no matter what I tried I got the same message, then in May it started working again and I've had no issues since… I've purchased 20 since then, all with the same details, generally no more than 3 when they run a deal, no problems…

It's like I was blocked for 2 months, no idea why, and I'm not sure what changed for it to start working again..

      • I swear they have an algorithm that triggers on the randomest combination of factors and then assigns a further random cooldown period.

      • My account had no problem since last year buying 1 or 2 each time they offered a profit. Now I am blocked by something error after I bought 6 with $4 and $5 profit last month. Is it worth asking them to remove the old expired services from my account, or will I still be blocked?

    Going back to sleep 💤

  • Thanks OP, gonna buy them incrementally throughout :)

    • Please explain?

      • +1

I’m sure it’ll increase to more profits later, I’m just buying here and there for churning

  • Is anyone else finding that porting is taking quite long, especially over the weekend? I know the time range is up to few business days but usually it's 15-4 hours. Ported yesterday midday and nothing yet

    • -1

Don't port on weekends, i ported in on friday from lebara, took 5 minutes.

      • Yeh it sucks on weekends. Over 24 hrs still not ported

  • +2

I have all my details saved on notepad. I just get on online chat and when they say hello, dump it on the chat I don't hear from them again until they are finished activating it doesn't take long.

    • +1

      That's what I do!

      • Only thing to change is Sim serial number of course.

  • +1

Tried couple times, always have error message

    SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG

We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later.

    • I get the same error. Pretty annoyed.

  • Might be a silly question but does the sim car need to be inserted at all or just activated?

    • +1

Just activated. If you are buying the sim to actually use, it can pay to test it in a phone before activating to make sure you don't have a faulty one. Some people have reported receiving faulty sims. Faulty sims can still be activated for the cashback but Boost CS can't/won't replace them, they tell you to go buy a $2 sim and they'll transfer your credit over.

      • I activated one last week, it worked for about 20 mins then died, I'm going to head to a Telstra shop in the next couple of days to see if they'll sort it out..

      • Thanks mate, I've got 3 coming from the ShopBack deal and I've been putting them in the phones. This is going to be quick and easy now.

  • Just ordered two without any issues using firefox desktop browser.
    Both tracked.

  • Ordered 3 for family members, tracked minutes later, all good.

  • how long does it normally take to see the cashback in CashRewards? I bought 1 Sim but I don't see it in CashRewards yet, I bought via clicking on the link in CashRewards.

    • Usually instant. Did you by via the website or CR app?

      • He said cashback, not tracking. Tracking (yes we see you bought it) takes minutes. Cashback (here's your money) takes a couple of months.

And if the tracking worked (verification emails received) then cashback will too.

        • I don't even see the tracking, I can see the click but not the tracking.

  • More and more people having troubles buying.

  • -2

Tried twice, got errors both times! Will buy local ColesWorths sims instead

  • For people getting issues, I seem to have gotten around it with "i cant find my address" during the address enter and manually entering my addresss

    • +1

      Tried that. Still getting error.
Even tried changing road to Rd

  • What!? Now 3.50 cash back…
