Bulova Hack 96A259/96A282/98A255 Field Watches $299 Delivered @ Starbuy

140

It's 'Field Watch Friday' at Starbuy. The 96A259 is the VWI edition that supports returned veterans to train as watchmakers, and it comes with a nylon strap and special glass insert on the caseback with the VWI logo. The other two are a more traditional reissue of their WWII-era field watches that were made for American troops, with the 96A282 sporting a nylon NATO strap and the 98A255 a leather NATO, and both having solid S/S engraved casebacks.

Apart from that all three of these Bulova pieces are built to the same specs:

  • Automatic Miyota 8S20-43A movement
  • Stainless Steel
  • 38mm x 13.44mm
  • Mineral glass
  • 30m water resistance

  • damn it the 96A282 is really tempting, if only it has a black dial like the original I would've bought it in a heartbeat.

    13.44 is pretty thick.

My Hamilton Khaki mechanical is only 9.5 mm

My SKX007 is 14mm and that feels pretty thick but at least it has a purpose:
    - Rotaing bezel
    - 200m water depth rating.
    - Day / date function

This Bulova watch is the most basic of watches but still ends up being so thick?

    • Likely due to the Miyota movement, which is analogous to the commonly-seen Seiko NH35. These are less expensive workhorse movements but at the sacrifice of being thicker. I have another watch which has a similar Miyota and it's about the same depth.

    • Your Hamilton Khaki is below average thickness imo, not many watches are below 10mm thickness. I had to grab the calipers and check all my watches and only one of them was below 10mm, I would say average is about the 12mm mark.

      • Thats true but you have to agree 13.44mm is thick for a very simple watch like this.

        • That I ALSO agree with ;)

For everyone's info, this deal will end on Monday Nov 6 at 10am. The Alvian bot doesn't know.

  • You can find better spec (similar looking) field watches from Ali Express at a much lower price.

I welcome the linkage. My ability to search AE and get meaningful results is pretty limited.

    • You can find anything electronic cheaper on aliexpress.

      • Doesn't mean it's better.

        • i know but there are always these comments

    • A PM is welcome, would be interested to see the specs on some cheaper field style pieces.

I tried to post the AliExpress links for two watches but comment was blocked. Search for Baltany Military Watch for mechanical movement option. For quartz you can look at Berney Titanium Field Watch T2566MS
