What Happens if Refunded Item from Amazon Turns up?

I bought an item via Amazon (fulfilled by Amazon AU) that did not arrive in the timeframe stated. Thanks for nothing Aramex. I contacted Amazon and they are issuing a refund - no issues there. I am buying it elsewhere.

My question is, what happens if the item turns up? Will Amazon charge me again for the item? I don't want to end up with an extra item that I then need to deal with.

Wow. OK. That would be good. It's a toy, so hopefully it turns up and I can add it to one of those Christmas toy drives.

Well you can get a free return label and send it back to amazon.

  • You can either keep it or just send it back

Oh it turned up? I can't see it anywhere, sorry…

  • Amazon would likely just take it back and chuck it in the bin/put it in their clearance centre for cents in the dollar.

    Keep it.

  • Nothing, happened to me and I just kept it :) But Karma made me damage it by accident though, a ripped Umbrella is not that useful

    All depends on product.

    Just call Amazon.

They will either pick it up for free, or let you keep it.

    I have had both responses.

It all depends on value to them and whether its worth the cost to them to return and put it into their returns store.

    • Yep, had a nvme drive come late and they already refunded it, told them it arrived and they said "keep it or donate to charity" so…….its in my pc running great….

P.S I always save the chat logs :)

  • Amazon doesn't care and use refunds as a tax write off (for under $1000) apparently. Hence why they don't really question it.

I don't think you understand how taxes work. It is still a loss, and there is nothing magical about $1k. You can't expect them to pay taxes on income that was refunded.
The cost is deducted from their taxable income, not their taxes.

Mind you, Amazon, like other internet companies, pays bugger-all tax in Australia anyway.

    • so you are saying you rather have a 1k deduction than have 1k?
