Also in Gungahlin, ACT until 3 November

    • Is it instore only?
Can't get it to work when I try to order online.

  • +3

Limit 1 per customer per day
I think ordering separately should solve the problem 😀

  • +7

    These guys have expanded fast..

    • +1

Crazy fast in VIC during last year.

      • +1

It is the sum total of every bite. Taking over the Rooster

  • +5

    illchay

  • anyone know if this is valid at Granville, NSW?

  • +14

I've always found EJ to be overhyped with the only good thing being the garlic sauce. The chicken is so dry. Am I the only one?

(I have a Frango's nearby and have found that as my goto but if you have alternatives, let me know as I'd like to try others)

    • +1

I had good experience about the chicken. However they are expensive and their gravy is too salty.

    • Frangos is 10x better.
It seems to be the general consensus amongst all my friends and acquaintances.

      • +8

Lebanese vs Portuguese style. Comparing apples and oranges

        • +1

Dry ElJannah chicken vs Juicy Frangos chicken…. not sure how much more or an apples to apples comparison you want.

Don't know what you're saying? Is lebaense style dry? In which case i guess I dont like the dry style ElJannah then.

          • -1

@Tamagotchi Breeder: No, the style of chicken isn't dry, although as others have commented the quality of El Jannah isn't as consistent as it used to be

What I mean is that they're different cuisines. El Jannah is comparable to places like Hawa or Jasmin1. Frangos is comparable to somewhere like Silvas or even Ogalo

            • +1

@beltdrive: Fair enough, but I can compare dry chicken to moist chicken regardless of cuisine, cooking method, flavours etc.

It's pretty much the main factor when eating meat for most people.

Doesn't detract from my point that most people find Frangos better because it's moist and not dry like eating gyprock.

    • +2

don't think we have Frangos in Vic, I've never even heard of them before

    • +6

Really depends on the location and time. Love their food but it's very inconsistent.

    • +1

Frango is the best. ALL IN

    • +2

I was overseas, so visited Granville outlet after a year. Was really looking forward to it but was disappointed.
Prices up by 30-40 % and quality degraded .
      Dry chicken ,Soggy chips.
Only the Garlic sauce and pickles were good.

    • +4

El Jannah chicken (in Granville, Sydney) was amazing, about 15+ years ago.

The quality declined significantly, after franchising.

A good alternative is Hariri's in Kogarah.
Chicken is soft, juicy all over … and still succulent after 2-days in the fridge.

    • +2

I would buy my chicken at a lebanese chicken shop in Stanhope Gardens and buy the sauce at El Jannah :D.
      I prefer Frango's chicken personally.

    • +1

agreed- in the beginning was good now dry chicken and slim rolls

    • +1

Totally agree. I tried one at Preston store and while everything was nice and good flavour, the damn chicken was soooo dry.

    • Used to be great back in the day in Western Sydney. Now it's way too salty. You have to eat it in store to enjoy it the most. The next day, it's like concrete.

I have to say, their deep fried chicken is amazing.

    • +1

Pilpels garlic sauce (aka toum) can be purchased from Coles and is more or less the same as EJ’s

    • +1

Have you tried Aldi’s garlic sauce? It is pretty much the same mate.. maybe tastes slightly different but I can’t even tell which is better.

      • Is that the garlic dip? Never saw a garlic sauce in Aldi.

      • thank you for the recommendation. very helpful.

  • +2

    From FB: https://www.pictr.com/images/2023/11/01/EcsLg6.jpg

    Should be at ALL stores.

I'm sitting in el Jannah Preston now. Not advertised anywhere in store. Just showed cashier the screenshot above.

    • +2

They have a huge inflatable on top of the building

      • +1

Must have missed it. No signs in store

    • +1

Yes its NOT advertised in store. I just saw a flyer sitting next to the cashier and I asked about the deal. It appears that they don't want many people to know and claim,

  • +1

I think franchised out, so the quality might be different at all places

  • +4

Highly inconsistent quality depending on time of day you go. Quiet weekday lunch, super hot and fresh chicken. Saturday night, very dry as it's probably sitting out for a while.

    • +4

That doesn't make sense does it?

Shouldn't it be dry when it's quiet and super hot and fresh when busy?

      • +2

you'd think so, but when its busy (or they're expecting to be busy) they roast a tonne of chicken and leave it out under the display

        • +1

          OK.. that makes sense.

  • +1

I tasted oportos chicken and these guys and this was far delicious than theirs.

    • +6

omg oportos is rubbish - $20 for a burger meal - used to be juicy and succulent but now rubbish

  • +1

    Is this place Spanish?

  • +6

El-Jannah varies by location. The original one in Granville is consistent but trying a few others the garlic sauce is about the only good thing and the chicken is average (usually overdone and dry).

Frangos is excellent every location and their chilli sauce + mayo is quite a good combo for dipping the tons of chips they give with every meal. However as other states residents don't know about it's Syd only.

Garlic sauce (aka Toum) can be find in many Lebanese run chicken shops so try some new ones to see if you can support local. The better the variety and support for local shops I think makes wins for alot more people.

A few in Syd I like: Jasmin1 (Auburn), La Mono (Merrylands), Fatoosh (Chatswood/Willoughby).

    • I went to Granville outlet on/off in last 15-years, and back then,
the chicken was simply amazing. It was soft, tender and fragrant all over.

In the last 5-years, I found the chicken salty, sometimes dry and not as good as before.
It seems like their quality declined, after they started franchising.

Then, I tried the Hawa Chicken, a block down the road
      from El Jannah (in Granville),
and it was slightly cheaper and felt like it was a bit better.

I've also tried Hariri's in Kogarah
and the chicken just tested better:
      soft, succulent, tender and flavourful.
It was a different 'taste' to El Jannah,
and I was glad to taste an alternative.

As for garlic sauces, I've tried the Jasmin1 (Auburn, Lakemba, Punchbowl), Sultan's Kebabs (Waitara),
Manoosh (Newtown),…and they're all very good, but home-made from Lebanese mum or auntie or grandma is always best !

One day, I'll hope to try La Mono (Merrylands), Fatoosh (Chatswood/Willoughby).

      • +1

It's like KFC I guess, and depends on the employee doing the prep.

      • +1

try Charcoal Kingdom in Rockdale! I like the sauce they use at the end to baste the chicken

    • granville is far from consistent! dry and overdone last 4 times went for work lunch through the week and weekends

    • +3

      Bro / sis
Jasmin1 Auburn has several penalty notices with NSW health
Jasmin Lakemba also has a few
Chester hill / Punchbowl are clean

      • Is there a web site or public register,
where one can check these 'penalty notices' ?

        • +2

          https://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/offences/penalty-notice…

Fail to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness - previous warnings given
Fail to store potentially hazardous food under temperature control - previous warnings given
Fail to comply with a prohibition order - previous warnings given

  • +1

@sedi [NSW, ACT, Vic] required in Title.

    • +1

I could only confirm 1 store in Vic so I just mentioned VIC

      • Posting Rules require location if Deal not available in all States & Territory

        Adding Vic helps👍

Am in a different State, so was a waste of time searching for unobtainable Deal.

        • It was there, mods removed it (see revision history)

  • I just tried to get this at the Baulkham Hills store and at first they thought it was fake but when I showed them the flyer they said they think it’s just at the Preston’s store :/

If anyone manages to get this at another store please let us in on how XD

    • +10

I just called the head office and apparently it’s just limited to Victoria and the ACT. Hopefully this saves everyone from needlessly going into stores!

      • +8

25th anniversary but only two states? What kind of celebration is that?

        • +3

Makes me actually not wanting to go there now.

  • +2

Pass. Over rated and way too salty for me.

  • +2

    Franchising = quality decline

    ShockedPikachuFace.jpg

  • +1

Deal is valid at Mitcham (Vic), they have posters on the front windows… Queue to order is almost out the door though.

    • +2

      Glad I tried it … for $5.
There was no sign (or taste) of charcoal, the chicken didn't seem much different to that from Coles or Wollies.
Chips were average, garlic sauce was awesome.
No plans to go back, especially when there is real charcoal-cooked chicken and souvlaki just down the road.

  • I had some back in July.

I have always wanted to try it.

I want to embrace other nations cultures etc

I drove 20 mins out of my way as opposed to other competitor outlets.

I copped a few looks from people inside, like why is whitish fella here at 730PM on a Saturday night?

Yes it was a bit salty, but the single box was massive!!!

    I could not finish it.

On a side note, I hope they come to Newcastle at some point, in the near future.

    • +1

I think it's in your head mate. They're in Newtown, customers are basically all skip.

  • +1

The deal isn't even available in the state or location that started the entire franchise 25 years ago.

    • +1

      yeah it makes no sense

    • +1

      Yep, how dumb!

    • +1

Making their franchisees take the $ hit.

  • Never heard of them in Melbourne.

    • They’ve mainly been in the northern suburbs. First south east store in pakenham opening soon

  • +1

    From their rep

Hi this deal is available at Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Craigieburn, Mitcham and Preston until Nov 3!

  • +4

Got mine today at the Mitcham branch… Not exceptional but it was a complete meal of Charcoal Chook, Chips and Cola. The service staff were very very nice.
I think without their Garlic sauce, it would be pretty bang average,
