Update 25/11/2023: Executive Traveller has posted a review of the Wi-Fi and rollout status: Review: Malaysia Airlines free WiFi

Malaysia Airlines’ WiFi is among the fastest we’ve encountered.
On recent A330 trips between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur we clocked download speeds averaging 11Mbps, while even uploads hit 6Mbps.
(There’s equal parts irony and sadness that these speeds were much faster than those at Malaysia Airlines’ flagship lounges at KL, where on recent visits the connection struggles to top 4Mbps).

Newly arrived B737-Max planes are having Wi-Fi installed as well.

Looks like Malaysia Airlines has one-up their rival from across the causeway.

From 1 November 2023, passengers on all Malaysia Airlines A350s, select A330s (I assume the A330-200 are the excluded ones) can enjoy free Wi-Fi even in Economy Class. You don't have to even be a Malaysia Airlines Enrich Frequent Flyer member and attach that to your booking, unlike the Singapore Airlines' deal. This means you can choose to earn points through your Qantas Frequent Flyer program or other OneWorld Frequent Flyer programs without forfeiting Wi-Fi.

The free Wi-Fi will be progressive rolled out to their narrowbody fleet in stages, probably either during their refurbishments, heavy maintenance checks or when newly ordered aircrafts arrive.

The WiFi system on these A333s are really old and can barley can 1mbp download and barely anything on upload.
    A359s are better though.

Wheat have no issue with Malaysia's slow speeds but the baggage reduction is corny.

Malaysia Airlines are the worst. Call centre agents do not understand english. I will never fly with this airline ever again.

      maybe you should speak malay

    • +2

I called up to arrange a baby cot and they understood my Australian english

    • May be try again. They speak english in malaysian slang but they are english literate. Try speaking slower or maybe look for another customer service rep 🤣

      Ok la. No problem.

    • +2

What?? High disregard.. flew them to KL last year and enjoyed it.

    • This is bullocks! Malaysia has been British Colony until not so long ago.
Many people speak and write English, sometimes better than English people themselves!
I'd like to believe this is an isolated event. Also do read others' comments.

@belongsinforums you gotta explain yourself on why a joke that involved the death of 600+ innocent passengers (including Aussies) deserves an upvote?

  • Not stepping into Malaysian airlines sorry

Unlike others in here, I have flown on MAS and I quite enjoyed it. They give a proper meal even in economy too, even in short haul.

Malaysia airlines satay is the best.

    • +1

Either you don't know how a good satay tastes like or you haven't tried satay else wer.

      • I'm obviously talking about on a plane, not in general.

Also, i'm born in Malaysia, so that your comment making no sense.

Will be travelling on A330-300 in December. Hope I can connect

  • Basically this means the wifi will be slow it will be unusable.

Its good enough for keeping in touch with family and friends via whatsapp/ messenger.

Good to see. Some airlines make you pay for wifi even in business class, always found that strange and annoying

  • prefer to raw dog air flights just sleeping all the way through.

can wifi track where your plane was ended?

    • +2

10 years late and in very poor taste.

Comparing it to Singapore Airlines is just unnecessary and shooting yourself in the foot. The WiFi on Malaysian Airlines does not work sometimes and even if it works, you can't stream. The Singapore Airlines WiFi has worked every single time and maintained streaming speeds. I think signing up for membership is well justified.

Great to know, I’m in KL currently, flew over on MH last week and they wanted something like $25 for 200mb. Good to know I’ll have internet access on the way back this weekend.

  • Please consider the food fiasco happening currently with them not renewing their usual catering arm:

    Time to step up Qantas…

    • ?? They already have free domestic and some selected international routes where you can use it over Australia.

Oh and the speeds are amazing, 200mbps down

      • On selected aircraft with selected routes is keyword there. New standard is across the network.

And I certainly have never seen speeds at 200mbps on Qantas, the highest I have seen is 15mbps, which is fine and usable.

        • +1

Malaysian doesnt have it across the network. Only selected A330s and A359s. B738s, A332s and some A333s dont have it
