    Normally $99.95

Lies. A UK item, normally £20 to £30 inc VAT and delivery. Described as "entry level".

      "Lies."

      That's unnecessarily rude.

You're right that they can be bought from the UK for a similar price to this offer (example Amazon UK is GBP19). They are really available in Australia (at least from some places) for $99 ( http://www.addictedtoaudio.com.au/DigitalSilence-DS101A-Ambi… ). I checked a few reviews and most are good so I don't think your "entry level" comment is general opinion.

  • Was the minimum threshold 1 because only 1 of 50 has been purchased.

    • simple. when they want to get rip the items no one want to buy minimum therehold is 1 however for marketing purpose they will put minimum therehold to unreachable level like branded tablets.

  • I am considering these at the moment but the only real thing that I don't like is that they have hardwired cables rather than plugs into the actual device. That means that when the cable gets worn/damaged as it inevitably will, it is maybe/maybe not possible to repair whereas plugs generally mean that you can simply replace the cable by plugging in a new one.

I have a Genius brand bluetooth headset device that allows any 3.5mm headset to be plugged into it. Typically just use the iphone ones with it and when they are damaged, I just use a new set.

active noise cancelling headphones have microphones on the outer side of each earplug.the microphones record the background sounds ,invert the sound wave and send it to the earphones. You cannot replace these active noise cancelling earphones with the iphone ones(even if you had a plug) and have the same results. the noise cancelling microphones have to be as close to your ears otherwise they won't work properly, that's why they are hardwired.so the "actual device" is built in the earphones AND the part that holds the battery and the control buttons.it's completely different technology than your bluetooth headset that only receives the radio signal, converts it and sends the sound to a 3,5mm audio plug

      • Based on what you wrote and now that I read the description more carefully, I see that the actual headset is containing the cancelling microphones so I agree it can't be replaced. But I think it still makes sense to have a cable between the bluetooth unit and the 3.5mm jack of the phone that has plugs both ends (for easier replacement.

Now I've gone of these as I think they will have a very limited life before they suffer some form of cable damage that makes the headset useless.

  • 10 days to deliver? Where is the item located?

  • Please provide specs on noise cancellation.

    • Active noise cancellation only works on repetitive white noise, like a washing machine or refridgerator. It needs to analyze the sound and cancel it out. It can't do that with random audio, for example people talking, or the TV being on, because there is no pattern there and it can't be predicted. If you try to use this while being in a crowded place like walking around in the city, or dining at a restaurant, forget it. It won't do anything for you there.

No quite. Active noise cancellation's not predictive - it doesn't analyze current sound and guess what's coming up next - it's reactive. When the microphones on the outside pick up a sudden increase in air pressure (sound), they push against it to equalise the pressure on your eardrums. When there's a sudden decrease in air pressure (sound again), they pull against it, again equalising the pressure on your eardrums.

They tend to work better on low-frequency noise - airplane engines, for example - because it gives them more time to react. If you could make the electronics work fast enough, in theory they'd work on high-pitched noises as well.

        • i agree! Also not all of them work the same. my $300 qc15 bose headphones do a great job with low frequency sounds(airplanes etc) but they also work (not as good) with music, tv and also people talking next to you! they even work with your own voice (but not 100%).
the Pioneer in-ear noise cancelling ones i got from Cotd for $39(rrp $200) a few months ago, are good on a flight but they do almost nothing with "everyday" sounds.

No quite. Active noise cancellation's not predictive - it doesn't analyze current sound and guess what's coming up next - it's reactive.

Ok, you chose a better word, but that's still precisely what I meant. I'll stand by what I said. Prediction by analysis is still a prediction, but we'll agree not to call it that just to be pedantic.

If people are going to be talking around you, it won't blank that out as if there's no one there. If anyone's expecting this, they have unreasonable expectations.

        • none said it cancels people's voices 100% but it reduces them significantly!(depending on the model)
Have you ever tried the QC15s?

        • I didn't say that you said that. I was making a point in case people buy them expecting them to. I've tried a few different ones at JB-Hi, they were all disappointing for the price tag.

  • Hmm seems that 60 people have now bought this and the deal is now on… I just checked 2 seconds before and it said 1 person had purchased it! Still unsure if this is worth it…

  • Hmmm even if you are extremely careful and don't damage either of the cables, the battery is non-replaceable so these units aren't for the long term for several reasons.

    • and it only lasts 30hrs..

  • Oh FFS, I was merely asking for info like " this headset reduces noise by 90% at 300mHz" or some such which info is commonly provided with all other active noise cancelling headsets.
