Breville The AirDynamic 3D Connect Air Circulator (Pedestal) $223.20 Delivered @ David Jones

210

This is a DC air circulator on a pedestal, with an app that works with GHome etc.

However, superior to our Vornado 683DC (also a DC air circulator on a pedestal), this one also oscillates: Automatic vertical and horizontal oscillation operate independently or in sync to create a 3D air circulation pattern.

Pretty good power, am actually contemplating getting a second one of these…

Are these any different to the Xiaomi or Viomi pedestal fans? The form factors look pretty close

I have the Xiaomi smartmi pedestal fan 3 which is ace, it's pretty close to silent at 20% and below which is great for the bedroom

I have one of these, and it looks similar to the Xiaomi, it is very short though, i have to have mine raised up in my bedroom, but it's much the same with the noise and lower speeds.

Good to know. I used to have mine on a 2 height Kallax, but it is just above the height of our bed so having it on the floor works reasonably well.

    • Xiaomi one I’ve got has a battery and cost a lot less than this Breville

It’s only a fan though, not an ‘air circulator’. No idea what the difference is but prob just marketing BS.

No idea what the difference is

        This one oscillates!

        • How do you titillate an ocelot.

      • xiaomi one is never in stock, the battery variant that is.

Air is moved with a lot more force, which allows for you to point it upwards from the floor up to the ceiling, and force air to move around the entire room.

Fan needs to be pointed at you, air circulator is best pointed angled across rooms.

  • How quiet are these? Thinking of getting one for the bedroom

    • +1

Pretty good for the amount of air honestly, not sure how it compares to the newer Vornado, but unless you're using it at max speed (8), which you wouldn't really have to, it's honestly fairly quiet.

I'd say you would usually sleep and have it on between 3 - 5 depending.

This fan has some bad reviews but I suspect it's because they're using it as a fan instead of an air-circulator.

    • +1

Forgive me, what's the difference between a fan and an air-circulator? Marketing?

      • +7

you can be a fan of Taylor Swift, but you can't be an air-circulator of Tay tay

        • lil tay lil tay

      • One fans the air the other circulates the air

      • +4

I've seen people complain it's too short so it doesn't reach over their bed mattress. I don't really think its meant to be used like a traditional fan (but it can be).
Best to point it at a corner, open some doors and windows (or AC) and circulate the air in your house.

      • Air circulators cost $160 more.

The one problem with this fan i have is that’s all plastic including the base. For the $$$ you pay you’d expect better materials. Tips easy and it’s not very sturdy. I’m huge fan of Breville but this product doesn’t seem to be up their standards.

    • I feel you on wanting to have more premium materials - the blades would inspire more confidence if they were made of something more than plastic.

Regarding the stability, we have dogs and haven't worried about it tipping on them - perhaps you could weight the base down with something like they do for outdoor displays?

      Artisinal plastic

    I prefer onlyfans.

  • Is this better than the vornado 6803dc?

    • I don't believe the vornado oscillates?

      • Yea was wondeirng if vornado 6803dc would be bettee althlugh it doesnt oscillate

  • Thanks OP.
Keen to get this for the Home Gym

  • +1

CHOICE don't rate it highly but I suspect that's because its maximum speed airflow is not as much as plenty of other fans. The 6 CHOICE members who reviewed it all like it.

    • I wonder if Choice rate the Vornado if it in the same product bracket

      • +2

They give all the Vornados a similar rating to this one. So yes, they probably should test airflow in circulators in a different way.

        Breville 70% Vornado 6803DC 77%

    • So which devices does choice rate highly?

      • They've got noisy ones on top by a little bit. Goldair 45cm Black Chrome Pedestal Fan GCPF265 - 87% Maximum noise 61dB Minimum noise 53dB

I much prefer the Kogan DC Motor Pedestal Fan KADCFAN3N1A. Close for maximum airflow 83% but much quieter Maximum noise 49dB Minimum noise 27dB.

I've got one. I use it to fan me while on exercise bike. Must be 5 years old still going good.

    • +1

I don't rate Choice, it's been pretty much established for years that their 'research' is easily swayed by the amount of money deposited in their accounts.

      • +1

        Established by who?

  • Does it move the same amount of air as the Vornado? Thats the good thing about the Vornado it sends like a jet of air which circulates around the whole room. Is this the same?

    • Keen to know as well. Deciding between this and cornado 6803

    • I'll test it tonight against the 683DC at home, though from memory they seem comparable. The 6803 I believe is a small upgrade from the 683.

      • Tested it - the 683DC on max 100% puts out more air than the Breville, but also much louder. The Breville does a good job regardless.

  • Price seems to have gone up to 279?

    • Discount applies in the shopping cart.

  • Is this the kind of product I want to use in my apartment living room if it doesn't have a ceiling fan?
One of my walls is west facing so when I get home in the afternoons the place feels like an oven. Would I use this in combination with opening my balcony doors to "move the hot air out" and get some kind of breeze/airflow going?

    • If you want to push air out of your room, probably best to position a fan about 1 metre from the window — ideally the window opening won't be too big and can be covered by the blast from your fan (if it's too big, air will just rush in, instead of more air being pushed out). You don't need a fancy expensive fan like this Breville or a Vornado, just a cheap regular fan will do fine.

Note that when you push air out, that air has to be replenished from somewhere (i.e. the outside), so hopefully the outside air is cooler than your indoor air, otherwise you won't achieve much other than circulating hot air.

Air circulators like the Vornado are designed to create a kind of vortex in the room, so you feel a light breeze no matter where you are in the room.

  • Thanks OP, got one.

  • Bought one as well, one of my rooms gets all the sun while another is nicely in the shade, will use this to push colder air into that room
