FYI, these are P100 plugs that don't support energy monitoring. But still good plugs for the price. :)

Also $57 at Officeworks, you should be able to order it online for pick up at your local, or $15 for 1.

  • Does anyone know if you can use these with HomeKit locally? Without any apps or accounts

    • Not HK compatible. You would need to use Home Assistant or Homebridge to have them in HK.
Tapo also recently updated the firmware on them so the Homebridge plugin throws up an error. It still works but it can slow Homebridge down.

  • Can anyone confirm Kasa devices work with the Tapo app? TIA! <3

Yep! I have 2 Kasa plugs and they work fine.

I installed the Tapo app recently and there was a prompt to sync or transfer the Kasa devices across.

      • Maaddd, thank you!

Bit pricy for plugs without monitoring, but I guess that's the TP link tax?

Seems pretty reasonable, they also don't block the second outlet

  • What do people use these for?

    • Electric blanket.

With my Xiaomi plugs I've plugged lamps and decorative lights into them. Then set up an action in the app to turn on the lights when movement is detected and turn them off after 15 mins no movement. I've set the operating hours so that the sensor works only at night.

      • Sensor is on the lamps and decorative lights? Or is the sensor in- built into the tapo P100 switches?

Pair them with a DC powerpack and a AliExpress solenoid and you have a ghetto irrigation controller.

    • Avoiding peak electricity between 3pm and 9pm is a popular one. A reasonably sized chest freezer will use about $100 a year of electricity, making sure it's only ever running off peak will pay for the plug in no time.

      • Wouldn’t you risk though more ice build up and possible contamination etc

        • +3

A full chest freezer stays frozen for about 48 hours after a power cut. Westinghouse have one chest freezer in particular that they say can maintain freezing for up to 135 hours with no power. Nothing is melting in the freezer during the 6 hour off period in a chest freezer with decent insulation.

      • How interesting - never thought of this

    • Bug Zapper, party lights, urn, Christmas lights (multiple), Lamps to come on and off at certain times, clothes dryer (see how much it costs), heated clothes horse, and so on…

      • Wish I had a need for those lol

      • Any recommendations on the heated clothes horse? I've been looking at getting one, there doesn't seem to be a lot of options, but prices can really vary.

    • i use mine via IFTTT (https://ifttt.com/) to turn off/on 2 entire powerboards full of stuff everytime i leave/enter the neighbourhood, so they dont suck standby power - because i forget to do this all the time - and now also since i have a cat coming to babyproof the house.

And also, since i have the P110 models, monitoring what goes through them when in use

I've got about 8-10 of these, but 4 of them did fail within a year of use. I mostly make sure that they are all off when I go to bed incase it 🔥🔥

    • Are their any safety concerns with these ones?

      • The ones that failed got extremely hot and I could smell burning plastic , so I would say that's a safety concern lol

        • What did you have hooked up to them?

          • @reactor-au: Mm different things. One was plugged in but nothing was plugged into it. Phone charger, fan, heater. Fan and heater were off (plug on) when I realised there was no light
