    Bought one, thanks OP

Usually $10 cheaper when buying from the warehouse? Is this still the case?

    • Would like to know as well. It isn't in the current warehouse savings catalogue though.

      • +2

Weekend online deals are not avaliable in store for the same price or $10 lower. The $10 lower thing is still the case for standard items.

I checked Canberra warehouse last week and they didn’t have this item in stock

    • I checked Marsden Park they sell at $150ish.

how powerful are these water spray? wondering if it can take out the chicken/meat that stuck hard between the teeth

    • yes it can but depends where, i often floss first then use the water blast, had one for at least 5 years and still going strong haha

      • I wonder why people use waterpik after using the normal floss? Wouldn't it be similar effect?

        Thanks

I am not a dentist, but my dentist told me that water flossing is not an alternative to traditional flossing. Sometimes, after using a water flosser, I can still find other things to floss out from between my gums.

On a lazy day, I just use the water flosser before bed. On a good day, I floss and then use the water flosser. I know it takes a lot of effort, but in the long run, it saves money.
I only go to the dentist once every two years now because there isn't any tartar buildup for the dentist to clean.

    • also mine is not cordless haha

    • +2

Depends where….if between the top where the teeth are closer…not really……but closer to the gums….they will blast it out. Might need to floss beforehand. Usually floss first in those situations. Waterpik will bring out a whole lot more after.

I have a Pikster HydroPik (substantially less powerful than the item pictured) and it absolutely does. It's life changing. And always remember, floss first then brush.

    • Well it makes your gums bleed until you get used to it. I dont think i operate on max still

    • +1

unless you have braces, it is much economic to buy those bristle sticks you can floss your teeth with. They work better than water floss IMO.

      • Depends if you have a life. I can water floss in like 20 seconds

        • I can finish using the bristles to floss in like 60 seconds.
Enjoy your 40 seconds of living life to the fullest…

    • +1

The first time you use it, you'll be surprised how much stuff is stuck between your teeth that normal flossing didn't get. I've been using it for 10 years now and don't feel like I've really cleaned my teeth unless I've used the waterpik.

    • bought it, after all the positive comments. Thanks.

  • +2

My dentist told me these dont work

    • +1

A white lie. Your dentist want you to come back regularly. They work but should be used with proper flossing

    • +4

cant replace flossing for sure, but for a quick clean it works pretty good. IMO

    • +3

Did he say why? I've been using these for years and they get all the stuff out really well. Maybe there's an effect that floss has on the gums or something that the water jet doesn't provide..?

      • +7

It's the rubbing motion also that removes stuff between the teeth. Have you tried washing your car by just using high pressure hose? Even if it's a powerful pressure, it only removes loose dirts and grimes. You only get thorough cleaning by wiping over with a wash mitt. Same concept

        • +1

Even more complicated than car wash, as bacteria can stick & eat the bone. You need to displace it 1st to remove the "weed"

        • +3

Which is why waterpicks are so good. The majority people who floss do it wrong. Flossing isn't so much about flossing between your teeth but also flossing in between the gums/gumline.

          https://youtu.be/PDFHQKVIJpo?si=5iuz3jB4jX6qdtq8

If your only flossing between your teeth, you basically haven't flossed at all. You need to create a c shape and floss in between your gums on both sides of the tooth which is very difficult to do especially when doing the back teeth, myself included. This is where waterpicks excel.

    • I got the xiaomi version for like $45. It does work.

They do 90% of the work in 10% of the time verse regular flossing. For some stubborn stuff you need regular flossing. For me, I prefer the time savings.

      • +1

        I prefer teeth.

    • +7

My dentist told me to use one of these because im too lazy to floss

    • +1

If that is exactly what he said, than you should get a new dentist. If he said that water flossers arent' a replacement for manual flossing, than he is correct. But water flossers have substantial benefits for those who cannot use manual floss, as well as for people who just don't floss at all.

      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8236551/

"The results showed that water flosser was as efficient as regular floss in removing interdental plaque on single use. Water flosser could be recommended for subjects lacking manual dexterity, by care takers for better plaque control and subjects with fixed prostheses or undergoing orthodontic treatment."

      https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24282867/

The differences between the groups showed the water flosser was 29% more effective than string floss for overall plaque removal and approximal surfaces specifically

"Conclusion: The Waterpik Water Flosser and manual toothbrush is significantly more effective than a manual brush and string floss in removing plaque from tooth surfaces."

    • My dentist tells me I do a great job at flossing and my teeth and gums are healthy, I've been using the waterpik for the past 10 years and only use normal string floss once or twice a week as its a pain to floss with permanent retainers…

    • They are very very good at getting food out of your back teeth, you can literally see it come out into the sink, but because its not physical you probably should still floss every now and then.

  • +1

Unless you have special needs (eg. Braces) that makes it impossible for you to use dental floss , these are pointless. Just stick to your normal dental floss which is a lot more effective.

    • And stick to manual toothbrush too?
Floss and brush, then use one of these into a plugged sink and see how much detritus comes out of your 'clean' mouth.

      • What's toothbrush got to do with this? They are two different things.
Your comment is super flawed lol
Have you tried flossing after using the waterpik? I'm sure you will get more stuff come out. One floss session doesn't guarantee everything will come out depending on the state of your teeth

        • You dismiss motorised devices, like a luddite, without any justification. They are far from pointless, as demonstrated by the other comments here.

          • @Quarn: Lol why not bring in a cordless vacuum while you are at it? If you are still lost, it's your figment of imagination that i dismissed motorised devices. Does the fact that i use electric toothbrush sufficiently prove that? 🤣

Justification? What Justification have you provided other than your own flawed experience? I used both and the water floss device is gathering dust now as i have gone back to normal dental floss. Ask any dentist and you will get the same answer. Stick to a normal dental floss. These devices are better than not using anything but aren't a direct replacement to dental floss.

  • They say you need to replace the tips every 3 months.

Is there an OzBargain advice on maximising the lifespan of the tips? Can you just descale them and not chew on them or do they (the Jet tips) genuinely wear out? How long are people getting out of them?

    • +2

I had mine a couple yrs… only realised they needed to replace when the stream was not in a point… compared to a new one the plastic must have been slowly worn away from friction…

    • Correcting myself - the Classic Jet tips and Tongue Cleaner are supposed to be replaced every 6 months. The others are every 3 months.

    • My unit wore out before the tip.

Tbh unless your teeth are sandpaper or braces i don’t know how you wear out a plastic pipe

    • I think biofilm (bacteria) growing in the nozzles is the concern. See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8816322/

looks like a stormtrooper helmet with a snorkel

this isnt the flossing solution you're looking for

  • +3

YOU'RE NOT GIVING AWAY OUR WATERPIK!!

  • Rookie question - never purchased anything from Costco online, who do they use to deliver and is it a long turnaround?

    • Auspost, last time I ordered online in May. Few business days.

  • We have this and it works well.

The main unit has a variable setting for how powerful so you start low until you get used to it. Yes, it cleans stuff that brushing doesn't get.

BUT - you will end up with a unit that needs cleaning itself. Water flows through the handle and grime builds up so you will need to scrub and soak it from time to time.

The portable unit has a small water tank, so oftentimes you will need a refill to finish. It also uses old fashioned batteries.

  • +1

This thing is fantastic, I urge anyone on the fence to try it. Eat a bowl of oats and blueberry's brush then use this. The amount of crud it removes is amazing. Also try using it to clean your bathroom sink around your taps and drain plug, you will be disgusted.

For the person said he was bleeding, that's a sign of gingivitis/gum disease. The fact that your no longer bleeding suggests this device is working. Start with low pressure if your new to these.

These devices shouldn't replace flossing but complement each other. Best thing I ever did was get one of these.I was on the fence too when it was suggested to try one. Now I recommend these to everyone I know.

  • I bought non Waterpik brand from Catch around $50 and it's quiet good - don't think they sell anymore. I use water mix with salt.

  • What’s the use case for one of these? Isn’t flossing with a pick or flossing tape better?

    • Some people have braces/permanent retainers which make flossing a real chore… I mean if string floss works for you then there's no need for a waterflosser.

  • Wow already not a bad price for the Waterpik Ultra on its own, but it looks like you get a second portable one too. Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP

  • Any way to buy things from Costco without a Membership? Mine expired & don't want to renew as I don't use it often enough.

    • +1

  • Cheers OP bought one as a spare, I've had mine for a few years now but still works fine. The portable one will come in handy when travelling.
