So the cow that produced this steak only grew 0.4% in the June quarter 2023?

    • Cattle Prices have dropped dramatically the past 6 months or so,

my cattle are worth about half than they were this time last year,

      • Why is that? Is there an oversupply? Sanctions with countries we export to?

        • +2

basic supply and demand, prices were high for a while since covid so a lot of farmers not in beef then put resources (Land) towards it,

edit: also there was plenty of extra pasture due to the high rainfalls the past few years so everyone let their herds expand, the upcoming drought will put a lot of animals through to graduation,

They have whole economy Scotch fillet at my local IGA for $15/kg

FYI, "Scotch fillet" is a racist term as it derives from the stereotype of Scottspersons being penny-pinching. It is a cheaper version of "fillet".
You wouldn't call it Jews' fillet, would you?

STEAKS from old cows will be labelled ''economy'' instead of ''low grade'' after industry heavyweights mustered support for a weakening of new laws designed to help shoppers understand beef quality.

This stuff is only fit for bloody Dutchmen.

      • I agree. "Economy" is usually means tough but ok for stewing and casseroles.

I think with the drought coming in the eastern states, farmers are thinning out their herds and getting rid of the the older cows.

  • A good rump steak w/fat makes the tastiest burger when ground yourself! Yum!

  • went to our local iga and they dont have this rump steak on sale. quite disappointed :|
