Not really into RTS games, but for a dollar why wouldn't you give it a go?

  • Hope they have a great deal for Shogun II.

The first one was what got me into this series.

The biggset cost of Shogun 2 is the 60gb of SSD space it occupies on my computer.

      • 60GB ????

Is it just the vanilla shogun 2 or with the shogun 2 fall of samurai expansion?

        • Vanilla + Rise of the Samurai + Fall of the Samurai is 60GB.

        • Can you give me suggestion, I'm interested in buying shogun 2 but not sure which one. I don't want to buy all of them. Should I buy the vanilla shogun 2 + rise of samurai or the Fall of samurai ?

        • Shogun 2 is a traditional Total War game, Fall of the Samurai is like Empire Total War on steroids.

Just wait until they go on special and buy them all, it was something like $17 for the lot of them during the summer sales.

      • In the past, you could use mklink cmd but now with the new steam update, esp for space hoggers like this, you can opt to place the game in a different location ie another partition.

Thats what I do now with all my game collections that i dont play so regularly! they all located on my 1TB partition.

      • Buy a raptor or install it in another folder on another drive :)

        Problem solved

        • It takes forever to load off a mechanical drive, it's almost intolerable.

    Argh I already have:
    Rome Total War (DVD)
    Medieval (DVD)
    Napoleon (Steam)
    Empire (Steam)

I want Shogun but its 37.49 + 37.49 for Fall of the Samurai so it's cheaper to buy them all again!

RTW for a dollar? I can't imagine anything else in the world that costs $1 that could be better value than that. Still the absolute best in the Total War series (and I've played them all).

  • If anyone is interested I'll be buying the tf2&spiral knights promos for 20 cents. That's a whole 20% saving off your game (!)

Only if it's available on Mac

  • do people still play this online or are the servers dead?

  • If anyone would like to donate their Team Fortress 2 items to me, that would be greatly appreciated :)

Rome Total War is easily the best of the series.

Highly suggest you sink your teeth into first if you're a newcomer to the Total War series.
It's been modded to death if you're too fickle about playing old games.

There is about as much replay value in RTW as there is in Skyrim or Oblivion. Easily 200 hours of content in RTW and the two expansions (Barbarian Invasion and Alexander). Then throw onto that mods like Europa Barborum or any of the other mods with a deep emphasis on historical authenticity and that'll keep you going for months and months.

Shogun II looks pretty but it's ultra-simplified, the combat's less about tactics, the AI is actually less intelligent than in the predecessor games and it covers a tiny geographical area.
There's also less unit types, factions, city variations, siege weapons, trade options, etc…

There's no more satisfying feeling than slowly but surely owning all of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

And then doing it all over again from some other faction's perspective and homeland.

  • It says shogun is $10
