Probably didn't need to repurchase it, the cdkeys for the retail versions of the STALKER games activate them on Steam. Did it with my retail copies of SoC and Clear Sky years ago.

Not sure how it's aged, but was an awesome game. FPS with RPG elements, story with alternate endings.
Would probably be worth looking into mods if playing today.
You may want to check Stalker Anomaly (i.e. Shadow of Chernobyl) which is by far the most immersive of the three, and it is free.
