Car Transport Interstate - Reviews Only Show Terrible Experiences

Does anyone know what it’s like to get your car transported interstate? VIC to WA in particular?

I tried to research a few of the larger companies like Prixcar, Ceva, Nations Car Movers, Auto Movers, P & S Logistics.
They all have terrible reviews regarding delays, car damages etc.

Does anyone know what’s the deal with moving your car interstate especially over a long distance? Is it just part of the deal that you will likely be faced with delays and damages as part of the process? Otherwise, any advice who to go with and how to mitigate some of these risks would be greatly appreciated.

    only terrible experiences

Remember that bad reviews online are usually left by people who were not happy. Those that were happy with the service often don't leave reviews.

Any ways to mitigate risks of damage etc? Make sure you take out the correct level and type of insurance.

If you have the time and your car is up for it, road trip!

    • Thank you! When searching various quotes with the company it seems there is only options to get it delivery quicker or standard times…insurance levels seems the same across the board up to a certain amount. Are you saying they make cover a larger range of damages for example (stone chips)?

  • I don’t know. But from what I’ve seen on this forum it’s not worth it to ‘get a bargain’ interstate.

    • That is not the purpose of me requesting this service

  • Try this - https://intraffic.com.au/

We used this to transport our brand new car from NSW to VIC and had great experience.

    • Looks like they use Ceva!

  • They all have terrible reviews regarding delays, car damages etc.

How many reviews? People generally only post a review to complain. Those companies move hundreds to thousands of cars per day around Australia.

    • A lot which is why I am concerned - both on google and product review. I understand generally that's the case but those 2 problems seems to be frequent occurence.

      • How many is a lot though? 200? 2000? 20,000!?

As I said they move hundreds of thousands of cars a year. So you need to take that into account.

500 bad reviews on 365k cars moved isn't too bad, still over a 99.8% happy customer rating

I used Prixcar earlier this year for a Perth to Canberra transport. They had the best price by far compared to the other couple of names the dealer provided.

Arrived early, no damage. Was filthy but that wasn't too surprising after crossing the Nullabor.

    • There was some reports of the delivery company cleaning the car which caused scratches from the dirt or using coarse materials, do they normally wash the car?
Also if the car arrives dirty wouldn't that potentially mask scratches and dents which you may notice later when cleaned?

I've bought a few cars from Melb / Syd to Perth over the years and CEVA have been my go to. No issues to report, but comms can be a bit light when you want to know where your car is at on it's journey and when it will turn up. The car has always turned up ok for me each time though, which is most important. I also recommend paying the extra to get the enclosed option.

    • Thanks for the tip, so enclosed means like having padding/cover over the car to avoid stone chips? I wonder if we could provide our own and just keep it instead

  • I paid a professional driver to drive a car I purchased interstate to me. Happy to pass on his details if you like, was cheaper and faster than any of the transport companies.

    • His name wouldn't be J Statham by any chance?

    • How much approx. for Melb to Perth?

No idea, you would have to ask. Cost me $800-$850 from memory, to go from Dubbo to gold coast, including unreg vehicle permit etc. Got it next day after pickup rather than the 2 weeks everyone else was quoting.

    • Hey Brendan, would you mind sending me his details? thanks

      • You don't have PMs turned on.

  • I've done Melb to Perth in 2019. Booked Transcorp removalists who handled household items themselves, but commissioned the movement of the car to CEVA. IIIRC there's only 3-4 companies that move cars (the ones mentioned by the OP) and removalists would employ those companies to handle the car side of things anyway.

Car arrived fine without damage, however took a 2-3 weeks. I also had a friend move his car also with CEVA but booked a week or two after me, however our cars were put on the same train and so arrived in Perth at the same time. They must wait until they have enough cars to make the trip on the train worth it. CEVA did provide me with tracking so I was able to see that my car was just waiting at the Melb depot for about a week. The actual train ride Melb -> Perth only takes a few days.

    • So seems like theres a few happy Ceva customers here. They are a bit more pricey than Prixcar…but happy to pay the premium if they are better.

      What's wrong with that?

    Foggy memories….
Grabbed an old Chevy in '78, Brisbane to Wagga, and return in '79 as an incomplete Hot Rod.

Both as driveable, as a dead vehicle is a different ball game.

It was loaded with gear back then, but I think all vehicles must be 100% empty now.

The cost, no idea. Too dam old to remember that far back.

Today, I would Fly/Hitch/CoSeats/Mates etc and drive back. ROAD TRIP!!!

    • Why the Neg?

  • I've used Prixcar before 2 years ago and like you, I was worried about all of the reviews but the options are limited. I had a Mazda 6 transported from Brisbane to the Mid North Coast in NSW and it arrived on the date that was provided in their quote and with no more damage than what was stated in their own pre-inspection when they received it. The driver was professional and the communication with him was great.

I've only used their services once but I would use them again.
