Have to say I am pretty happy with the Woolworths $229 200gb plan.

    Telstra > Optus

10% off an instore shop once a month - I generally save $20 or so per month from that alone.

    • +1

I had a similar bad experience with Wworths as per the comments from Darkshade(about Coles). customer service is amateurish

      • +1

He is saying Coles is bad, Woolworths good??

      • Coles Mobile customer service is 100% provided by Optus, not just the network, for whatever that's worth.
Then again, I think I've only had to actually call a mobile company once in the last 10 years, so it's not something I think about now.

    • Is that really a saving.

I don't block myself in just using woolworth or coles. Flybuys usually have ongoing offers (10000 points for $50 spend for 4 weeks) which equates to 25% discount. If you don't use EDR for some time. You will also get similar offers for woolworths.

Why restrict yourself to just 10% off?

      • Woolies is the best supermarket in my area and I use discounted Wish gift cards to get 5% off every day.

I do 90% of my grocery shopping at Woolies, 5% at Coles and 5% at Aldi.

Recently switched from Boost to Coles Mobile, which was the worst porting experience.

It took more than 3 days to finish the voice service enablement, so for 3 days you dialled out and were forwarded to Coles support, who couldn't do anything. All incoming calls were dropped with the reason "Your call could not be connected. Please check the number and dial again". During these 3 days, there were at least 5 confirmation emails that they had fixed the issue and everything should started working, but until a "high-level support" of Optus applied their magic, the phone literally remained disconnected, so friends and family started worrying about me.

The signal quality-wise, Coles Mobile is way worse compared to Boost, in the Melbourne metro area.

    • Good to know!

    • thank you for sharing!

    • I was moving from boost to Coles as well, and it's been abysmal experience so far in Sydney.

First of all, Coles doesn't support Optus 5G, and in crowded area (eg. CBD, university) both their 4G/3G are very flaky. You get enough signal bars, however data is not transmitting at all for 10 seconds or so before it finally reconnecting. I never experienced this issue with Boost.

      • +1

I found that optus 4G was better then telstra 5G at a couple uni's in sydney.

    • +1

My porting experience took the better part of two weeks, when going from amaysim to coles late last year. Absolute nightmare.

The service itself has been fine after that though.

      • Switched over 2 x Boost to Coles a couple of months ago, no issues at all. Took less than half hour to transfer each Sim.

    • Had the same abysmal porting experience into Coles.

Took 9 days to port my number from Boost to Coles, the Coles mobile contact staff were thoroughly useless from start to finish.

After the 3rd business day of no cut-over and no information given to me from Coles I couldn't be without my phone any longer so was forced to play Russian roulette purchasing another Boost recharge. Will my phone cut over today, tomorrow, next week and how much of my new Boost recharge will I lose in the process.

gone from boost to Coles…NEVER AGAIN. Back on boost. don't waste your time or money..

    buy cheap, pay twice..

    • Poor reception or speeds?

    • +3

it is all about where you normally go.

Back in Adelaide I thought Vodafone is a joke, but where I am now in Sydney Vodafone network speed is above all else.

Back in Adelaide when I go road trip to Kangaroo island, nothing but Telstra have any reception at all, but deep in middle of a shopping center, Boost almost always have poor reception where Optus have good reception.

Unless someone specify where he was, you should not listen to their experience, it's cheap enough for people to buy a $10 28day SIM, port over and have a go at it.

Ported from Optus to Boost couple of months ago. Never going back. Optus network and internet is a joke in metro Melbourne.

Recharge at standard prices… bummer my 60GB plan is ending next week and it looks like I'm stuck with $120 recharge :(

EDIT - scratch that should have read the last line!

    • Did you get 20% off on recharge checkout? Also what happens when you recharge early? Does recharge start on the same day?

      • Yess paid $96 for $120 recharge. You get a docket with a code, then you need to go online and apply the code to the service and the counter resets 365 days expiry from there so you should wait until your expiry date is near before you do it.

        • Do you just go up to Coles counter to purchase the docket?

          • @mtky: That would work but I just bought it at self check-out, there's an option for phone recharges

  • +2

Coles Mobile does not have call waiting feature. If you have an ongoing call, another caller cannot get through. It shows busy. You don't even get a message that you missed a call.

This is for iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro with call waiting feature enabled.

  • I'm currently on the 120GB plan which expires March 2024. If I purchase the 60GB recharge, can I apply it now or do I need to wait until my current one expires? Also, if I have any unused data, will it carry on? Thanks.

    • +1

Wait till March for another offer or wait till they send you an offer a month or 2 out from the expiry which will have the same discounts. Then you turn auto-recharge on.

      • Don't rely on them sending an offer for discounted recharge. I've seen a few people mention this but I didn't receive such an offer and I've seen others mention the same. I even rang the call centre to see if I could get it but they would not provide.

        • The point was that there is no need to buy something now when the expiry is 5+ months out.

  • +1

Dumb question. Can an existing Coles mobile customer use this deal?

    • Pretty sure it's for new customers only

      • Thanks. Problem is I still have 4 months left, but no data left. Coles only let you recharge data for 7 days or 30 days. And at a premium rate. So pretty shitty if you run out of data.

        • 'Get 20% discount off your next recharge, when you recharge on any 365 day plan before your expiry date.'
What's stopping you from recharging now?

      • fkn dogs bruv

    • The deal for sim card is for new customers. But they also have 20% off recharge voucher for existing customers.

  • Optus in Sydney is ok, I am using catch mobile

  • Are there any similar deals out there, with other providers?

  • +2

I must be the only one who has ported from Boost to Coles and am happy with it… Maybe I'm lucky, coverage seems to be just as good if not better and porting was smooth

  • On boost atm, feel like it’s crap coverage around melb cbd and fringes most of the time.

Might think about this. How long do these last? Can’t seem to find activate by dates or expiry.

    • +1

the 60GB and 200GB are on the website as well and say

Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions.

catalogue says offer ends 31st so best to activate by that date
      https://colesmobile.com.au/home/left-image/product/5

      • Wonder what the risk is that the $200GB plan changes past the promotion for the recharge by 31/10/23.

        • Seems unlikely with Catch offering same/similar plans with a validity to at least 14 November +30 days to activate.

      • You just have to buy the SIM before 31 October.
You can activate 30 days after purchase (ie up to 1 December) and will be guaranteed the same offer as listed on the pack.
Likely the same inclusions will continue to apply after 1 Dec, but the offer could change to something with more or less inclusions.

    • Buy a 1 month SIM to try out first rather than buying a 1 year plan and then find out the service is not up to scratch for where you are.

  • It took 3 days for my number to be active again after porting to Coles mobile. I had to raise it with them multiple times before someone really did something to fix it. The internet speed is also very slow and keeps dropping out. So I am just stuck with Coles until I use up 120 GB. Never again going back to Coles mobile.

Waiting for Amayasim Black Friday deal to happen

  • Can i get this deal from a coles shopfront which would be mean instant sim delivery?

    cheers

  • Worst network.
    International calls even worst.

    • whats issue with international call? I am considering it , I be mostly calling India though.

  • Call quality is the worst bro.
I used to be boost but at the time of renewal boost don't give offers to existing customers sadly. So I shifted to Coles. Such a bad move.

    • Not the worst move, now you can buy a discounted Boost sim from eBay and port back to Boost as a new customer.

      • Thanks bro.
That's the plan. But need to wait till existing plan from Coles finishes

  • Getting a recharge voucher count towards the 4 week $50 spend?

  • Does anyone know if the recharge voucher purchased in store is applied right away or remains valid for a period of time? Thanks!

    • +1

I bought a recharge voucher in store today. It prints out a voucher which says valid until 21 Oct 2024 (just under 12 months). I was going to apply the recharge voucher but when starting the process it gives a warning that the 12 months will start today, which means the remaining days from previous 12 month plan will be lost.

So the approach is buy now (while discount available), wait until the last day of your existing plan, then apply the recharge voucher.

      • Got you - cheers for the response mate.

  • it is cheapest 365 plan with the unlimited international call. $99-$2.5(500 flybuy points)=$96.5. the other one is amaysim $99($119 when discount in woolworths)-$5(1000 everyday points)=$94. catch connect and kogan sometimes have $89 plan, but without international call.

  • +1

CBA rewards are also offering $5 cashback if you spend $100 or more at Coles by 25/10.
Just need to spend $1 or more in the same transaction if purchasing the Coles 60GB data sim.

  • also on their website, same price at least for the $99
    https://colesmobile.com.au/home/left-image/product/5

i have question which one better, coles vs catch ?
answer: coles because it has int. call to 15 countries
but a bit worry of bad reviews here from coles

  • Just swapped 2 phones to coles online as we needed the international calls and boost plans expiring soon. Was with boost previously but its nearly double the price for a boost recharge compared to swapping. Took 5 mins for the swap to happen today. Hopefully the coverage is adequate!

    • yeah we 2 people in the house with boost but now sadly have to swap soon. gee they dont really want to keep customers!

  • I'm currently on a monthly plan with them. Can I purchase the 365 day recharge and still get the 20% off?

  • Another deal: 20% off recharge vouchers in store for existing customers.

how to get this deal? my plan expiry on 28Oct. but app said not discount. $120 / 60GB

    • Go in store. Use the menu on the checkout screen. Purchase the voucher then log in to your account on app or web page, choose recharge, enter the code from the voucher.

      • +1

Can I change plan to 120GB on special price?

        • When I bought the recharge voucher it didn't require details of my existing plan. So I think you can recharge to any size plan. But I'm not certain.

        • For existing customers, you get only 60GB, unless there's another way to get 120GB, it would be good to know how….

  • I was reading comments about porting taking days to weeks but took me like 5 min to port from Vodafone, must be my lucky day.

  • +1

Haven't had any communication sent from Coles Mobile but happened to log in today and there's a banner saying the $120 (60GB) plan won't be available to purchase for new customers after 9/11/23, and any existing purchases must be activated before 1/1/24. As far as I can tell existing customers can continue on the plan when it comes time to recharge.

Only info they have is at the bottom of the FAQ

Won't affect a purchase from this deal, but unless you get a discount offered for recharge I guess won't have the option to buy a discounted voucher to apply for renewal.

  • existing customer can purchase coupon from coles store, cost $96 of $120(60GB) apply for renewal just bought one yesterday.

    • Can you give me the steps on how to get the discount please?

      • +2

Go in to store and follow the menu on the checkout screen to find the renewal voucher. Price be discounted while the promotion is active.

  • I'm on this in WA and do not recommend. Regional it is awful.

  • -1

I only see the recharge card at full price in store (the cards don’t have data like “xxx GB” printed on if)… Staff in Coles not helpful… eventually had to purchase online.

    • Well many said follow the menu means go straight to self checkout…

      • Yeah sorry I just meant the staff wasn’t helpful. At the time I was in store I didn’t check Ozbargain and only found out later. For someone who had no idea it was a bit hard. :)
