[NSW] OzBargain 17th Birthday - Northern Beaches Meetup

Hey, I noticed there are very few ozbargain events near me (northern beaches). The closest is Chatswood. Anyways I know @scotty said he wouldn't prioritise Sydney events, but what about the black-hole of the Northern Beaches? I am willing to stick my hand up and maybe try one of his suggestions:

Everyone orders UberEats / DoorDash / HungryPanda to eat at the beach and send receipts to scotty for reimbursement

I've already got a park bench in mind: Wheeler or Jamieson park, Narrabeen? It's right next to one of the best burger joints and curry places for an easy delivery of one or two of these places. I was thinking an early evening get together, I am a shift worker so my time off varies, but I am available on evenings from 1st - 12th Nov. Will get more available dates when my roster is released. What do you think? Or if people prefer we can try what happened last year with dad'n'daves I'm open to any suggestions/amendments?

    Sorry it doesn't work this way. We are sponsoring food and venue for an OzBargain meetup, but I don't want to handle individual receipts — preferable just 1 or 2 receipts per event as these will all need to be put into the accounting system manually.

    Moreover, the comment on not prioritising Sydney is about sending out t-shirts. I have actually asked for pausing posting new Sydney events more than a week earlier.

    Chatswood is already close enough for those on the northern beaches — why not go with that one?

          You're the one who wants one in the local area because you can't be bothered going to Chatswood. I'm happy to travel and will be attending the Epping one.

        Meanwhile I'm probably one of the few OzBargainers who will cross state lines to attend OzBargain meet ups.

        Like that one time every flight except my own was cancelled, my Airbnb host forgot I was coming, the train station was flooded and I arrived only 20 minutes late.

        If anyone wants to complain this is too far….

      Thanks scotty and thanks for clarification of the reimbursement situation, I have amended my post accordingly.
      I do remember that post about you asking to pause the sydney events and was actually really trying to address both of your posts. But sure this can go on the back burner as you request and I will stay attentive for when you will remove that pause.
      As for chatswood, I would like to attend and have attended events in the past at chatswood. However I was merely suggesting something more local. Anyways I look forward to when you remove your finger off that pause button.

      Honest reason: most people who live in the northern beaches, especially places like Manly, don't think anything exists outside of their suburb and the city. "Chatswood" sounds like some foreign land many hundreds of km's away for them.

        Honestly Chatswood is so close to those in the Northern Beaches. It is not like the event is in Campbelltown and they were forced to go there. Northern beaches (also part of Sydney) is so isolated and only those from Northern beaches would attend defeating the purpose of the event. I would've even assumed Sydney CBD would be more appropriate but Chatswood is closer

          I live in the Northern Beaches (yuk) and would prefer Chatswood over Narrabeen, it takes 20min to Chatswood and 30min to Narra.
          And thanks for tarring everyone with the same brush, I have lived in the NB all my life but have worked in Chatswood and parramatta, even went to rydalmere uni (UWS).

        Well to be fair I've plotted on a map of all the places already approved and it seems Penrith and Campbelltown are also missing the ozbargain love at the moment.

        As for the insular peninsula, yes, there are definitely some people who refuse to leave the Northern beaches, but there are also people who refuse to leave their suburb or even their bedroom. I don't think it's more prevalent than anywhere else. But I am definitely not one of them and I regularly travel off the Northern beaches (admittedly by car, as northern beaches public transport is atrocious). I have friends & family all over Sydney and some favourite places for food are chatswood, strathfield and marrickville. But no need to all pile on with the insular attacks, I was only making a suggestion and in a previous comment I already said I would probably be attending the chatswood event.

      To be fair, the Chatswood one is lunchtime Wednesday. Which means only people are working in Chatswood (or not are working normal hours) are going to be able to make it.

        I boarded a 2 hour flight to Sydney and arrived in time for a Chatswood lunch time meet up 😝😝😝

          People from the beaches don't want train lines because that brings the unsavouries from out west (see: Bondi)
