      • +3

Tradies in their G Wagon and $90k utes need a pair of those for hearing protection. Tax deductible as work expenses. Win!

  • +6

I imagine this would be targeted towards professional audio producers and singers? Because i cannot reasonably see a casual enthusiast using this, but I stand corrected

    • +60

no, too off-reference for professionals. this is just for wealthy enthusiasts.

      • The true professionals would opt for the limited edition, gold plated ones only available in the UAE.

    • +4

UE11 Pros with custom moulds is a popular one for pros in a live environment.

Not seen these ones out in the wild but maybe there's a usecase, no idea.

Certainly wouldn't impulse buy these unless you know what you're buying

      • Is Jerry Harvey’s IEM’s still around and popular?

Wasn’t he the person basically invented this entire category of IEMs?

        • Would that be JH Audio? If so, yep, I've seen people use those!

        • They are still relatively popular but not as much as what it was like 10 years ago when IEM companies were rare. They make quality IEMs that last a long time, but they haven't really innovated over the last several years. My first CIEM was the JH Roxanne and they still sound amazing after almost 10 years of having them.

        • +14

Maaan for a second I thought you were talking about Gerry Harvey lol

      • UE11 Pro looks to be roughly the same price.

    • +14

These are tuned for music listening. Professionals use referencing tuning.
Also this is only at the 'top end' for prosumers in the retail category. There are even more expensive products for richsumers in the boutique category. If you follow A-lister celebrities with what they use during performance, there is a 'madder' category.

But you're right though, there is a competitive category for casual enthusiasts: Chi-Fi.

  • +4

    is this made of diamonds?

    • +10

      Diamonds dont conduct electricity

      • We have a marketing team to combat those issues for our ultra stupid wealthy customers

        • +7

Diamond encrusted drivers so you can hear the sound crystal clear.

Thanks OP, bought a few for each of my family members. Our ENT doctor is now out of their job.

    • Not if you jam these in your nose or throat.

  • +16

I have this. It is amazing. I have been using it with Sony Walkman WM1AM. I bought it when my previous company had partnership pricing with Sony. I think I got it for around $1,600.

I love this IEM so much that I even went to buy an Alo Audio Reference 8 cable.

    • +24

I honestly can't tell if you missed /s.

      • Given how good the top of the line sony buds actually sound, I believe he may be speaking the truth here

I look at the pictures first and I'm disappointed these aren't shower heads.

    • Which shower heads are you buying for $2400?

      • +7

        Ones that provide golden showers.

  • +14

Might buy these to tie on a stick and use as a cat toy.

    • +6

Come on Bezos, why are you wasting time on a bargain site?

  • +5

To my surprise this is the legit price of these things. Amazing sound reproduction apparently.

Bought one with two of my kids.

      • +8

You missed "ney" between the "kid" and "s".

  • Maybe what DJs use? I've seen some using something similar?

    Maybe even gamers?

    • +1

No this is for audiophiles who want that particular sound, at a very high detail and is willing to shell out the cash for it. DJs would be using studio monitors and most gamers wouldn't even use this for gaming as it would be far too expensive.

      • I've noticed a lot of the game is use something similar, and I've noticed huge international DJs use something small like this instead of huge headphones these days

Pulled the trigger, hope they comes with a model 3

  • +2

At this price would rather get a custom like UE18+

    • +1

customs are not inherently better than universals

      • Just the seal/fit of a ciem elevates it above most if not all universals. I will never understand people that drop $2k on universals, you're already paying a bomb just shell out a few hundred more and get something that will fit well.

  • +24

      1. Lifetime condoms
      • I was under the impression that you get lucky twice a year post marriage. Hypothetically if you are married for around 40yrs that’s around 80 of them you need for lifetime. A quick search tells me an individual condom costs around $0.75 cents, so for $2374.95 you can purchase 3167 of them. To extinguish the stock you need to get luck 80 times a year. You must me a lucky dog if this is your lifetime stock. Hahahaha..

I remember getting slammed for posting Unique Melody Miracles for $870 years ago. Now, here we are…

Oh wow it was 12 years ago. I'm still using mine. Great investment

    • those were amazing. wild that yours lasted this long!

      • I'm on my ~5th set of cables, but yeah, fingers crossed they last forever as I love them

Good thing the cables seem to be generic enough as UM went out of business. I've been buying from 64audio

    • +1

Ayy UM buddeh, still have my Mentors from 10yrs ago too.

  • +5

People laugh at prices like these but will happily pay not much less for a smartphone.

People have different priorities, the carry on is ridiculous.

    • +1

Yes but a phone has a lot more costly materials used as components. Screen, chips, metal and glass packed dense into a slab. This on the other hand, hardly have any materials used to manufacture.

    • +2

Perceived quality and value from audio is way more subjective than comparing smartphones

    • +1

Smartphone objectively has more utility, even if iPhones are overpriced. They do a lot more than one thing, which is what these do (I suppose 2 things since stereo)

      • +5

        I've had my IEMs 12 years. $100/yr.
Whereas iphones people are paying $1k/year or roundabouts

It's not just cost, it's how long it's useful for. Headphones should never stop being useful (except, of course, that phone manufacturers keep forcing towards bluetooth). If they've got a replaceable cable, headphones last yonks

        • Yep, have heaphones from the 90s and 80s that are still pumping music.

Value with audio is very subjective, but I reckon the potential peak listening experience a person can get with something like these would confidently smoke any Bluetooth/ smartphone audio experience. Totally up to the individual of course.

Smartphones have tons more utility true, but I don't think I've ever really experienced anything through a phone that has made my jaw drop. Smartphones just whelm me, even the top shelf models.

Basically a jack of all trades situation. Can't really compare.

    • I remember one of the very first Tesla deals that was posted on OzB many years back got way worse comments. And look at Tesla deals these days. Funny how things change.

That said I couldn't see myself buying a pair of these but to those who can justify it, by all means.

  • +2

These are one of the best IEM money can buy for bass response, they are made in Japan and almost always out of stock. I don't like these because they're too heavy and uncomfortable.

    • Agreed, very fit dependent. Unfortunately not many locations to demo/ try these in Australia.

      • +1

I had minor issues with fit but was able to mod the Shure olive tips by expanding the connector barrel to fit onto the IER-Z1R. The fit for me with these are perfect and the added sound isolation is a bonus.

        • Nice, are they memory foam like? Foam improves the for and weight distribution of these big boys.

      • Where do you demo IEMs? Interested to have a whirl at fit and weight comparisons

        • +1

If you're based in NSW, perhaps shoot a message to minidisc.com.au to see if they're available.

Addicted to Audio used to have a set years ago. But they're no longer a retailer for Sony.

    • +1

I thought that too at first but found the weight saving from the 2400 missing from my wallet evened it out.

  • PT Barnum was evidently right.

That you should buy a female slave, work her to her death, then perform a public autopsy for financial gain?

        Not quite in that category.

        • Hats off to those to can afford these. But having said that, what's up with the styling of super luxe speakers?

          • +1

@cd-v: Super luxe need to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack. Price placebo plays a role etc.

Sort of like the Rolls Royce Boat Tail. 50 mil AusD custom made.

  • +2

I bought these in 2021 for $1,800. I haven't seen the price drop to that low for a long time. They are top tier IEMs for sure but suffer from fit issues for some people. It is a fun IEM if you like bass and female vocals. It's part of my IEM rotation depending on genre.

It is expensive but when compared to $3k+ IEMs, these do perform on par if not better depending on genre.

    • Kins of burtal to drop 1800 bucks on IEMs and they no good for male vocals.

What about say George Michael or the Bee gees?

      • +3

It still beats out consumer IEMs in all departments but when comparing to other high-end IEMs it is just average for male vocals. It is not bad nor good, just ok for male vocals.

No IEMs at any price point can do everything well which is why some people have a couple IEMs on rotation. If I was listening to metal or bands with male vocals, I put on my JH Roxanne otherwise IER-Z1R for EDM/JPOP

    • What are you plugging this into?

      • +1

A Sony sports walkman from 1992. Listening to songs recorded of the radio.

      • +1

Anything to be honest but critical listening AK SP1000 or Schitt Magni 2 Uber and Modi Multibit 2.
