Bosch Oven Warranty Expired in June, Now Faulty…

Hi all, built a brand new house with new Bosch oven just over 2 years ago.

Oven temperature dial has started playing up - turning temperature down (opposite direction) when I’m trying to turn up! The worst part is it doesn’t do this problem consistently! Totally random when it happens.

Of course, the 2 year warranty expired in June this year! Bosch are saying it’s a $166 call-out fee plus $11 per every 6 minutes once 30 minutes of technician time has past, PLUS spare part costs.

Any hope of fighting this one?

Lol they're charging lawyer style fees now? Wtf

    • +1

Errrm, try $66 per every 6 minutes.

But yes, shocking. Been happening for a while. That's actually cheap, I think Miele were around $180/hour last time I used a couple years ago. I suspect the tradie probably gets a quarter of that.

    • Yes it is nuts!

  • What model of Bosch is it if you dont mind me asking?

    • +1

      VBD578FS0

      So bad. Do not recommend.

      • Damn, we're getting the exact same model (in black) in our new house

I did a fair bit of research before selecting this model and heard nothing but good things. Hopefully you get it sorted without having to pay Bosch's exorbitant fees. Fingers crossed!

What model? If it's one of the ones with the ring, take it off and clean it (should be able to get the edge of it with your fingernail) - it might be all it is.

    • VBD578FS0.

It’s has 2 protruding circular knobs. One for selecting temperature and one for selecting cooking type.

They don’t look like they can easily be removed?

      • Yeah, not the same unfortunately. The models with the touch ring (single big ring in the centre) can get dirty and do weird things like you describe.

I would argue an oven should last longer than 2 years so shoe be covered under warranty/ACL

    • +1

      I agree

    • +2

Yes I spoke to consumer affairs today and they said it’s worth fighting…

  • +10

Tell them you want to lodge an ACL warranty claim.
The oven should have performed longer than two years.

    • +6

Australian consumer law would definitely cover this scenario.

    • Thanks. Am planning to do this.

  • +9

@GourmetFoodie please be sure to update the thread if/when you do approach them with the ACL card.

  • +4

2 year warranty on an oven is a joke. I am sure you will be able to get it repaired under statutory warranty.

    • Yep. Pissed off!!! Not a cheap oven either!

  • +5

    get an email.

If they find it's not faulty you'll get to pay.
If they find it's faulty they'll need to cover the call out and fix. ACL would require an oven to last over 2 years.

I had the same with my TV, they got me to agree to these terms and i was like yep.

Maybe video tape the issue when it does happen.

    • This is how OP needs to approach this. Try to get the fault on video or be sure that you can replicate it to the technician.

    • Thanks mate. So helpful!
Brilliant idea to video when the issue happens too as it is intermittent so the worst kind of fault!

      • How does the problem show? Eg does the temperature light not come on when you turn it up? Or does it just get colder in the oven?

  • If you have home insurance , probably worth checking with them.

    • Good idea as a backup. Thanks

  • +2

Bosch came and replaced some faulty door hinges in our 5+ year old oven without cost so worth pushing it with them

    • Thanks that’s super helpful to know. Did they threaten you with call-out fees at the start?

      • Not that I recall, but I did figure out it was a known issue and possible safety hazard and used that as leverage in my initial request.

Cook something for your workmates, then you can just bill your employer.

  • +2

A two year warranty for an oven is absurd.

  • +1

Google the make and model and see if it is an issue. More bargaining power that way.

  • +3

To follow ACL claim start with the retailer and get them to hassle the manufacturer. Document or note all conversations. You are nothing to the manufacturer, but the retailer has a vested interest - they don’t want to be selling dodgy appliances, and they’ll have better contacts than you.
Read up the ACC stuff about claiming. Turn up the heat on them. Oh, you can’t, I forgot.

The most ridiculous thing about this is that its a Bosch technician.

They shouldn't charge hourly rates when they 99% likely know the problem and the cost of the part to replace before they even come out.

  • +1

I would contract your states fair trading dept and get 'worded up' to speak to Bosch about ACL..an expensive good brand oven should last longer than 2yrs.

Try with different agent from their maintenance and service team.

I have had issue with Westinghouse Dishwasher which was out of warranty by about 15 months, but when I reached out to their service team, they said if it is found to be manufacturer’s fault then I will not be charges for call out and any parts replacement. If it’s found to be faulty because of incorrect usage and maintenance then it will be 165$ + cost of parts.

They attended and fixed it about 1.5 month ago and so far haven’t received any invoice from them, so I assume they considered it as manufacturing fault and no charge to customer.

  • I have Bosch oven that had some issues under warranty. Tech they sent out was from "The Oven Guy" company.
If they won't do it under warranty, You could go direct to an oven repair company and get quotes.

  • If they refuse to do any warranty work, just ask if they'll sell you the part by itself. Sometimes appliances just have clip in parts to the wiring loom.

Just buy a new oven at Appliances Online. They delivered it the next day, took out the old one and disposed of it. I then paid a dude $100 on Airtasker to install the new one. Only lost one day of oven use. It'll be cheaper and less stress in the long run for you.

    • +2

      It's a $4k oven…

  • Thank goodness this forum came out in time! Bosch oven is in my shortlist for replacing my 25 year old wall oven.

    • Don't let warranty issues dissuade you. Bosch are a good oven. I have had a few different ones over the years.
From really cheap to really expensive. Bosch are good ovens at a reasonable price. Their service (under warranty) was excellent.

      • Who really cares about a 2 year warranty though? You buy an oven for 10 years.

    • We have all Bosch top end (German) stuff. It's been great and I would buy it all again.

As mentioned, manufacturer warranties don't mean squat. You have an implied 8-10 year warranty under ACL for this stuff.
