They also seem to be a lot sweeter this year.
Maybe due to climate change?
Yeah, Last year Coffs harbour (largest blueberry growing region in Australia) had over 2meters of rain - Yeah, you read that right. 2 meters of rain!!!
The berries planted in the ground vs hydroponics in Coffs ended up having 'wet feet' and the roots couldnt get enough ferts as they'd wash away with all the rain. Its the main reason the berries were very watery and less flavorful.
This year however we've been very short of rain and the plants are living off what ever irrigation they're getting. it makes it much easier to control the plants and volumes. Since its been good growing conditions, it explains why the price is so low
Low prices always come with great costs: https://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/sep/28/blueb…
I hear pineapples have had a bumper season too this year, so expecting low prices in the coming months…
dark blue is sweeter than those purple-ish-red ones.
$0.88
That's lucky…
Stock up, wash them and freeze…….
Blueberry is the new macadamia
Down down down
That’s nuts
I noticed this year that actually most blueberry punnets (at least in Woolworths, Coles, Harris Farm etc.) have gone to 175g rather than 125g like previously. Great development. More blueberries, less plastic waste per blueberry.
rather than 125g like previously.
Coles have had the 175g ones for a few years now….
170 grams actually.
Have you weighed them?
I noticed the 170g ones seem to have been replaced with 125g at the local Coles; and the Woolworths has 125g or 200g packs.
Not in Melbourne.
They're not going to be good for this price, probably will be soft/squishy rather than firm.
It's only a deal if they're good. Otherwise it's just like biting into slightly sweet water.
Wow looks like blueberries are cheaper in NSW compared to Vic.
