Pay with your linked eligible Westpac card

Note for Aliexpress, you would lose any Paypal protection paying this way. I reckon the Paypal protection worth more than $20 for $133+ purchases.

    • So far didnt get issues with aliexpress
received a broken glass protector years ago and also got the refund from aliexpress (without needing to claim via paypal)
for me most items shipped from china (15days delivery) arrived on time, and also get tracking status with AusPost once arrived Australia
IMO its ok to take the risk for $20

    • You know there's bank charge back?

Last time I had a major dispute PayPal sided against me twice despite irrefutable evidence highlighting the merchants own T&Cs. But a single bank charge back had them refunding within 30days.

PayPal are fairly useless and increasingly hostile these days.

    • What is this PayPal buyer protection you speak of?

  • Man just paid for an item like 2days ago

    • Cancel and reorder if not shipped yet?

      • +1

Already shipped choice item supposed to get within 14days that one.

And because of choice item its useless non existent support because there is no seller rather AE bots and duxkwits.

But at least hopefully I'll get item soon

  • Anyone get hit foreign transaction fee or anything like that using the westpac debit with alieX?

    • +1

i've always transferred over the exact amount required at checkout and paid in AUD without any additional fees being charged

      • If you pay with PayPal, you are almost guaranteed to be charged currency conversion fee i think -that is bank charged one (regardless of if you paying with aud or USD).

On other hand if you pay directly with card number then i don't think any charges (given you pay in aud)

        • Need to pay directly with card for this deal anyway

I have a debit card too, so just looking at the T&Cs (https://www.westpac.com.au/content/dam/public/wbc/documents/…)

      Foreign transaction fee
The fee charged will be dependent on the nature of the transaction as follows:
      • 3% of the $AUD transaction amount where a transaction is made in foreign currency and the merchant or financial institution accepting the card is located outside
of Australia (comprising of 2% Westpac Processing Fee plus 1% Westpac On-Charged Scheme Fee); or
      • 2.2% of the $AUD transaction amount where a transaction is made in foreign currency and the merchant or financial institution accepting the card is located in Australia

From my interpretation, it only applies if the transaction is made in foreign currency. So switch to AUD before buying (even though the price goes up a few %)

      • Yeah, thanks. I've just had mixed experiences with some sites and how Banks treat various payment gateways involved even when selecting local currency.

        • +1

Yep, I'm 100% with you there. Been caught once or twice with some company processing it overseas even though it's in AUD. I think it applies more to credit cards than debit cards, at least that's my experience.

  • Do promo codes (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/805686) still work with cashbacks?
In the past they have but i'm not sure if thats changed

    • This is Shopback. They pretty much have this on all the stores:

Use only promo codes from Shopback

So unless you’re lucky somehow, it won’t work.

I’m happy to be corrected otherwise

      • it is kinda vague, shopback says "New to AliExpress? Claim a coupon to use on your first order" with a link to aliexpress, if it's my first order will the coupon work?

        • You better ask the store rep 😅 @gotyourback

        • Hi Mate,

          Please see reply below.

          Cheers,

Tried to get Reolink doorbell, last time they ran out AU Plug. Today tried last promo link again https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/806065
It shows wifi version with AU plug stock back with $119.30 incl. GST. bought via shopback and received confirmation of $17.15 from westpac, and $0.57 from normal cashback

  • Hi @gotyourback, the shopback aliexpress page says 'claim a coupon to use for your first order' with a link that takes your to aliexpress…but the page also says coupons cant be used. So I just wanted to check if coupons are ok to use if its my first order. Cheers

    • Hey OZB Community,

Let me check with the team and come back to you in this thread.

      Cheers,

      SB Team

  • Has anyone had the original AliExpress cashback tracked but not the Westpac bonus?

    • Yeah, Westpac yet to track for me

    • Yep same for me, no bonus tracked for Westpac. Usually get fairly flawless tracking. No coupons used.

Paging @gotyourback to see if there were any issues.

      • Hey Mate,

Send me a DM and I can look into this for you.

        Cheers,

        SB Team.

        • Hey @gotyourback
I'm still having this problem. I've sent you a DM
          Cheers
