  • this is deadly to pet birds

    • +5

So don't pet birds with them!

  • I've purchased/had previous versions of these from Aldi, two lots of four and one lot of three. The first lot of four were installed in my ex's house no problems, second lot of four I didn't use for 18 months and when I did, found one had severe wobbles and another had a blade bolt snap when tightening, and another was DOA. I rang Casa and explained, provided the receipt and after about 3 months and a couple of staff changes they sent me out 3 new units (a more modern design). These units worked although two had an annoying clicking sound that seemed to be in time with every revolution. I rang and tried to get them fixed or replaced and they became a bit hostile and basically said "hey mate, we've already looked after you". I can see their point as the original units were well out of the warranty period, even though they were brand new. In short, if you get a good one, these fans are great. One criticism of the design, the light is very bright (head ache stuff) and there is no way of dimming it. So to get a softer light I bought a light with a shade on a stand. Kind of defeats the point of the integrated fan/light.

    • The ticking noise is from loose blades

  • Anyone able to find stock anywhere?

    • went to 2 ALDI's, no stock :( Should've gone last night

      • Went to 2 in WA . No stock .

      • Went to two aldi's last night. No stock. The staff member I spoke to said I was the 3rd person to ask about the fans.

    • Went to my local Aldi in SA just after 8:30 AM yesterday morning expecting there to be a queue for the specials.
There were less than six shoppers in the store.
They had a pallet load of the ceiling fans and I bought two.
I opened the boxes last night and they appear to be better quality and more modern looking (and half the price!) than the Fanco Eco models I purchased some years ago.
The installation manual/user guide is excellent with none of the usual Chinglish.

      • Can you comme t on the overall height of these please and once installed if any led flicker

        • Will do.
          The height is 335mm.
The manual says there should be a minimum clearance of 2.1m from the floor so a 2.4m ceiling height would just scrape in.

Not every store is on there but might save you a trip

      • Wow, thanks mate!

      • @mzeps I've bookmarked this link, thanks for your contribution!

  • Can anyone who bought these confirm if the lights can be dimmed? Can the brightness be controlled?

    • According to the manual, the brightness can be adjusted from 20%-100% (9 levels).
      Colour adjustment is 3000K, 4000K and 6000K.

      • Thanks mate.

The lumen output on it says 1,200lm. That's not very bright is it?

Some of the other fans, that are twice the cost, start at 1,500lm to 2,300lm.

        • I guess it depends on where you are going to install the fans.
The two I bought are going into a 6.5m x 4.0m bedroom and replacing the two existing light fittings.
Therefore I don't want them to be bright.
I hate the two Fanco Eco fans I bought a few years ago for smaller bedrooms because they are too bright.
They are not CCT and not dimmable.
The overpriced Fanco crap cost $300 each.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yea, deffo gonna use this for my small bedrooms, 3m² x 3m².

Thanks for letting me know about fanco. What is cct? I think being dimmabke is very important. If philips or someone comes out with LED replacements that are standard that can go into all fans, then prices would drop and features would increase.

            • +1

@Lord Ra: CCT is colour changing technology.
Warm white > natural white > cool white.

              • @[Deactivated]: Ah, yes. I bought the fan yesterday, pulled out the light part to have a gander. It's just a little flat disc, with the leds on it, in warm and white colours. Pretty simple tech. So approx 50% of each. I wanted to plug it in and test it and see how bright it would be, but the plug is like something on a pc fan. So I packed it back up again.

                • @Lord Ra: The fan plugs into the receiver which then needs to be hard wired to mains so its not as simple as plugging it in

                  • @mauricem: Yea, figured that out too.
Oh well, will just wait for the sparky to do it and live with it.

    • Can be dimmed, yes. It has 9 level of brightness which you can control from the remote

  • +1

Just had mine installed by an electrician. Fan has 6 speeds, 9 level of brightness and 3 different colour temperature. Very quiet while on 3 or 4 speed. It is neat and modern looking. Overall for $149, I can't fault it, especially with the 3 years in-home warranty.

    • Thanks mate. How much did the sparky charge you? (get it?) 😉
Did you do just the one fan?

      • I got charged for $200 installation, a bit on expensive side but he was able to do the same day I called so all good

        • Yea, I suppose, that's good, covers his travel time and work.

    • @thaihoangaus
Same here, just had two I bought installed in my bedroom.
Fortunately, both fans aren't operating on the same remote/receiver code so I can operate them independently.
They are outstanding quality for the price.
Fingers crossed that they go on sale again and I will replace the horrible Fanco fans I have in my smaller bedrooms.
In answer to another poster's question, the LED lights don't flicker at all.

      • Thanks mate, they look picture perfect.

  • The stock checker shows that they're mostly all sold out.

  • I just picked up the last one in Melbourne. Can anyone confirm if the existing light switch will still be used or will it all be controlled from the remote? Also did your electrician supply a certificate when installed?

    • +1

Just leave the wall switch in the on position and then control the fan and the light from the remote.
In winter if you don't use the fan, you can just use the wall switch for the light.
My electrician provided a certificate of compliance.

I had 3 of these fans installed on the weekend and strangely when we turn the light of with the remote the light doesn't go completely off, anyone else have this issue? there is very slight illumination when switched off with the remote but completey off when switched off at the wall switch.

    • +1

Yep same here with two that I had installed in my main bedroom.
They don't bother me at the moment but I wouldn't want them to get any brighter 🤔
@tonz1972 has reported an issue with the light glowing when the fan is operating at night.

    • +1

Yea just had four installed all doing the same - slight glow on half of the led disc when light is off. Turning the wall switch off it goes away but we need to leave it on to operate the fan. Very annoying being in bedrooms.

      • +1

Came to ask the same question as I look at in bed right now.
        Half LED round glowing.
I’d say it’s a design fault and there is a current leak feeding into the LED module circuit.
The fix would be using the correct or an additional capacitor to take the noise out of the neutral connecting to earth.

I’m going to contact them and will post if I have a resolution from them.

They could add a circuit to the LED module plug but that would cost them a heap!
Probably less than a mass recall or warranty claims

        This will be interesting

        • I also came here for the same thing… very interested to hear if you figure out a fix or they give any support.
Dont really want to take them back, would even prefer to get a basic fix done by my sparky if possible.

  • I've just ordered a few of these from Bunnings for the same price. Specs seem slightly better to me as well as warranty.

    • How's the noise at low speed?

    • There are plenty available at bunnings. Do they have dimmable lights too? Thanks a lot

  • Got mine installed today in the bedroom today. Very happy. Whisper quite and plenty of lighting to my pleasant suprise.
