        Lol, that's brilliant

Can I get a monitor that uses quantum cyber technology to unbold unnecessarily bolded text? With USB-C. Also SCART. VESA mount would be a plus. Ideally very thin and portable but thick also.

@schquid: I think jv negged you.

@schquid: Oh and i should also be paid to have have one

          • @schquid: Make sure you have a case too.

        This is super aesthetic.

      • Whats with the steam deck question? Seriously..?

        • +3

People who aren't tech savvy can't put two and two together. If my device (i.e. Steam Deck) supports video out via USB-C and this monitor accepts USB-C input, then they'll work together.

          • @Clear: Thanks - Oh, so just another dumb question for the grid. Gotcha. I have a steam deck also and wondered there was something I was missing lol.

  • would you be able to plug an iphone 15 into this via usb c to use as an external monitor

    • Should be able to, don't quote me though. You may be able to test out by plugging the iphone 15 into a monitor.

Funnily enough, I stumbled on a YT video yesterday of someone using a usb-c iPad as monitor by using a capture card.

    • +1

Dunno what you would see when plug in, but iPhone 15 is compatible with 4K displays with this adapter https://www.macrumors.com/2023/09/13/all-iphone-15-models-su…

If it's like iPad, then some apps will treat it like a second display and let you play things full screen, like streaming and video player apps.

    • For phones, wait for devices supporting wireless displays.

I want this but I can't find an excuse to spend money on it :(

    • +1

That's not the OZB spirit. But these kind of monitors have been cheap and high quality for years, there's no rush to buy any particular one.

      • are they high quality? costs same as a non portable, seems crazy
haven't bought a monitor for almost 10yrs tho not sure what to expect.

        • The fact these are portable is a selling point. They are very thin, like an iMac without the stand. They are usually IPS as well, which used to be a big selling point but is still an advantage over cheap TN displays. From what I can see some have batteries built in, others that will take a USB C video input sometimes don't, but will charge off a laptop or a power bank.

Ticks every box I need except touch screen damn

    • Any touch screens you have seen?

  • Does this work with MacBook M1?

  • I'm assuming this would be ok for dual purpose - wall mounted on vesa mount plugged into a mini Dell PC for virtual cycling/travelling and working remotely plugged into a Dell XPS?

    • +1

This was my thought when I bought it. I bought one and it arrived a few weeks ago. Works fine with single usb cable connected to laptop usb C. I use it with my PC mounted to an arm which I plan to take with me when I travel for work but you need a beefy power brick to use it as it comes with a euro plug.

  • What makes it more portable than any other monitor? Just a bit smaller? Or power via USBC or something?

    • +1

Both, 9mm thick and powered via USB C (5v 3a) so can be powered by your phone charger as well as quite a few laptops and phones.

  • coupon not working

  • Does this work for Samsung Dex?

    • Yes but you will need a bluetooth keyboard. Better experience with a touch display

  • Anyone bought one from past deals and able to provide a quick review?

Mine was faulty on arrival(grey screen and flickering issues every 2-3 seconds) I retuned via Auspost as instructed($58.80 shipping that AE chat said I would be getting back as store credit). Item arrived back on the 15/9, seller has not confirmed receipt on the dispute page, AE stepped in and rejected
my claim without explanation. I appealed the case, got an email today that case is closed because have not provided additional info 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
In the meantime, I have spent about 10-12 hours on chats and emails(they never responded to my emails), provided proof, screenshots and tracking info, everyone on AE chat is saying I’m right but they still can’t get it right.
Next step is Paypal/Amex dispute for fraud.
I know not everyone has got the same bad experience but be aware that things can go very wrong
The best part of this bad experience was the quality of the screen (those 10 seconds that worked). Screen looked great, casing not so much and multifunctional button not very easy to use

      • That's a shame to hear, was it this same seller/store that you bought from?

        • +1

Seller is “Bimawen Store”, not sure if it makes any difference as when I returned the item and had a chat with the store rep, he told me item
will be sent back to the warehouse, not to him directly. I’m guessing they all come out of the same factory no matter who the “store rep” is.

      • yeah that's Ali for ya. Had the same, chat says "we're here to help you", then after an hour on chat they say the support dept will email you. They email you and basically ask what's wrong, so you can try to start explaining from scratch.

Paypal is pretty crap too. Once had a (diff) issue with AE. Sent Paypal the full text, link to yt video showing the issue, photos, and they email back asking me to send a video. Maybe they hire china to run their support now. Eventually got some Paypal credit tho.

      • +1

Had a similar problem with both AliExpess and Paypal. Took many months of stress, frustration and persistence to finally get a refund in the form of promotional credit from Paypal. After that I’m not interested in anything from AliExpress, to me they can implode with their dodge practices.

In reality I suspect paypal has little interest in upsetting AliExpress in refund cases and losing their source of revenue as opposed to smaller sellers that depend on paypal.

      • Agree. AliExpress is for bargainers have plenty of time.

Bought an identical spec from a different seller on Ali - 4x to be exact

No issues on windows or mac via USBC, runs pretty bright just using laptop power.
Can get up to 130hz on mac but need a 3rd party app to get more res options - defaults are too big or too small since osx only likes sharp text resolutions.
      Windows has better OOTB options.
Can run 2x monitors per m1pro macbook over USB-C

Colour accuracy is pretty good and not far off mac’s DCI-P3 - the manual claims something like 95% or 99% DCI

Worked great for working remotely without an external power source and high enough res for productive excel work without eye strain

This vs our old Asus / espresso FHD portable displays - 1000% this

      • Hey what app(s) do you use to customise the resolution options? I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me. Everything looks a bit weird on the external screen.

        • I used SwitchResX
You can use it indefinitely for free but it shows a popup every couple of days

I bought one a few weeks ago and using it right now. Came earlier than estimated with good shipping updates.

To use the HDMI you need to power it with a beefy USB C power brick. If underpowered it will flicker badly and not display. I'm using this Google USB-C 30w adapter to power it. I tried a 15w USB-C power adapter but that just didn't cut it. It does seem to power off my PC's USB-C port but I didn't want that power going through my motherboard if it didn't need to.

I was expecting it to be a little bit lighter than what is was. It's not bad though.
Over mini HDMI it only gets to 120hz. Not that big of a problem to me as I've tested and it's actually getting 120hz which is nice. To get 144hz I think it needs to have 2 USB-C cables plugged in, One for power and one for video. I didn't get this working with my PC but it said it was working with my laptop. My laptop though couldn't output 144hz cause it's doesn't have dedicated graphics so it just said 144hz but in reality it was more like 60hz.

      Heres a few points
      Pros:
It's brightness is awesome, when powered, it's brighter than my 450cd/m monitor
      75x75mm Vesa mounted
Easily connected, It's has good auto detection
      Resolution for price is amazing
      Impressively thin

      Cons:
Viewing angle doesn't seem to be correct. It's best with direct viewing. It still pretty good though
Doesn't come with the screws for Vesa mount - it takes motherboard screws whatever size they are
HDMI cable provided is only 1.2m I had to get another one to make it work with my PC
Euro plug - you have to use your own brick for AU.
Will turn off and on again for about 1 second, like once per hour for some reason.
Single USB-C seems only allows for 60hz and 30% brightness on connections that allow for monitor connections. (Like laptops or phones) If you want 144hz and proper brightness you will need to plug a second USB-C in for power.

In all I'd very much recommend getting one.

      • "Single USB-C seems only allows for 60hz and 30% brightness on connections that allow for monitor connections. (Like laptops or phones)"

Even with a power brick plugged in?

        • +1

The next line: "If you want 144hz and proper brightness you will need to plug a second USB-C in for power."

My PC motherboard has a USB-C port but it didn't display anything when I tried to use it for data. It works for power but no display. Worked as expected on my laptop though. So I use HDMI with my PC.

          1 USB-C = 60hz 30% brightness
          2 USB-C = 144hz 100% brightness

          1 HDMI = Nothing
          1 HDMI + 1 USB-C = 120hz 100% brightness

          • @MegaBytePanda: I can only get mine to output 130hz but it does it over both USB-C and HDMI. No 144hz, no matter what I try.

Did you just plug in via USB-C and the source into the other USB-C? Does the source need to go into a specific port on the monitor?

I have tried both on windows and steamOS and both only give me 130hz.

            • @drinkin-beer: So I used 1 USB-C into my laptop (which can use USB-C for display and power at the same time) and the other into a 30w USB-C power brick and it says 144hz for me. Didn't matter the orientation.

You're getting 10 more FPS than me when I use HDMI. Not sure how that works but I wouldn't exactly call a $200 portable monitor from AliExpress a gaming monitor but it does the job well enough for me as a secondary monitor for daily use and a portable monitor for travel.

I can only test with my laptop to try get 144hz. Windows say's its 144hz with 2 USB-C cables plugged in with the source being my laptop. When I used UFO test it didn't look like the monitor was even outputing 144hz. But I think it was my laptop restricting it to 60hz cause it doesn't have dedicated graphics.

It 100% works at 120hz with HDMI from my gaming PC.

          • @MegaBytePanda: Thanks! I have one more dumb question.

"1 USB-C = 60hz 30% brightness" what power source is the monitor using here? Is the phone delivering the power? Or do these monitors have a small battery?

            • +1

@Fobsessive: Yeah powered over USB-C but was from a PC in this example not phone

            • +1

@Fobsessive: So you got my curiosity… So.. if I use 1 USB-C cable from my laptop's It can run it at 30% brightness at 60hz.

I just tried my phone which is a Samsung S21+ with 1 USB-C cable and it CANNOT power the monitor by itself. It gets stuck in a flashing bootloop.

I then tried with the second USB-C connected to the power brick and my phone and I got samsung Dex working straight away. (Very cool actually)

So to use it with your phone you need a second USB-C powerbrick / powerbank to power the monitior.

              Laptop with 1 USB-C works
Phone need 2 USB-C for it to work (I guess if your phone output 15w+ of power it might work)

      • The ondevice I have that outputs over usb-c that I can think of is my steam deck.

Still can only get 130hz. Not complaining though, this thing is fantastic value for $200.

  • can you get two and daisy chain them? Or would need two usb c ports on my laptop.?
