[Steam, PC] The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition $10.99 (80% off) @ Steam

410

I believe this is a historical low. If you have a limited budget I would recommend purchasing SE instead of AE (Anniversary edition), which is $26.38. SE is all you need to use 99.99% of mods; it even has the same executable file as AE.

Probably the best modding guide is Lexy's, but it requires lots of time, downloading and some tinkering. Modding Skyrim is a game in its own right. Lexy: https://lexyslotd.com/
If you are new to modding, you should first acquire Mod Organizer 2 and become familiar with how it works. It was originally for Bethesda RPGs (Morrowind and newer) but supports some non-Bethesda games now. It is a massive improvement on just dumping all mods into a single override directory. No offence, but this is a really good game

Oh I've been thinking about getting this for years, but I'm more of a fallout guy, I suppose Skyrim is like a "fantasy" fallout 4…

At this point might be worth pulling the trigger… Has it been cheaper than this?

I thought the same thing. Massive Fallot fan and wasn't sure about mediaeval type games but gave it a shot. I got in hooked pretty quickly and couldn't put this down. It has a very similar feel to fallout 3 (same engine I think) and I have no idea how many hours I sank into it

    • +3

      It's the other way around.
Fallout 3 was built on Oblivion's engine, and was dubbed "Oblivion with guns".
Same with Skyrim and Fallout 4.

If you love modding, and its the only reason I even completed this stale game, you must remember that the normal version and this version have different ones. Some of my favourite mods for skyrim dont work with the definitive edition. Didnt matter much really since the graphical mods for the original version still look better than this new version. On the plus side some new mods dont work on the old one. So if you plan to play it repeatedly down the years, own both!

Started a new playthrough. I recommend Skyland AIO (all-in-one) for lore friendly, non-enb visual overhaul that doesn't require a super computer (I have gtx 1080) and can be installed in few mins.

I tried going through the enb rabbit hole. Not worth the time spent to make it work on older graphics cards imo, maybe if you have 40 series it's worth a go.

That's a speedrun! Take your time, enjoy the game, and collect every fork.

I used to be an explorer until Starfield crippled my knees

    • Not a sword to the knee?

Until I took a rocket to my patellar.

A no brainer purchase. Starfield didn’t capture the magic this did . So much to randomly discover in comparison

If you're looking to play modded skryim but without spending hours modding, this tool is available

    https://www.nolvus.net/

Although it requires the Anniversary Edition (the more expensive one)

    • Last time i got it like $12 from greenman gaming.

    • or you can just use wabbajack

Still playing it after 11 years. The community had have made many quests and expended story lines from the original game. Best to get the AE version including all CC features. So realistic after using the environment mods.

Games were magic when I was younger and I played this game for 100hrs. When I turned 25, for some reason I couldn't get myself to play games. I have so many fond memories of epic gaming moments. Upgrading my PC parts every 1.5 years, tinkering and overclocking on a limited budget. Now when I have disposable money and can buy $5000 gaming rigs, I am still on a 5 year old PC with zero gaming ability. Did I turn into an old fart? Why is life like this?

    • +1

Happened to me mostly as well but took until I was about 32. Now I only game occasionally despite collecting games I intend to play but usually don't….

I guess maybe it's something about getting older, I miss that gaming joy of my youth…. I actually have the time even….

This post really hit me in the feelings. I am 26 now and have a similar experience. I think it may be due to life getting more complicated, shifting attention to other things, and also a general loss of interest or decreased dopamine release from a specific stimulus over time. I think gaming can still be enjoyable and something to be enthusiastic about if you play mindfully and in moderation. At a younger age, you probably have less to worry about, aren't hit by the idea of your own mortality, and perceive that games will just be continuous joy.

Anniversary Edition (AE) is actually considered a downgrade from Special Edition (SE) by almost everyone. The most downloaded mod on nexus mods is Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher. This mod literally does nothing except turn the Anniversary edition back to special edition.

If you've never tried skyrim before, TheEpicNate315 is a rally good youtuber for mod videos.

    Have Fun!

The reason for downgrading the exe is that there is one mod called .NET Script Framework ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/21294?ta… ), which only supports the old 1.1.597 exe. There are also a few useful mods that rely on .NET Script Framework. The .net Framework produces a useful log file which can be helping in figuring out what is causing crashes.

      FUS RO DAH

    • Hook her up with the Dark Brotherhood

Been contemplating in buying this game for yonks now. Is this the cheapest it has been?

  • Got it. Thanks!

  • I just bought a steam key $28 off CDKeys for Anniversary edition I should've waited. I needed the Anniversary Edition for the Nolvus Modpack if anyone's super serious about modding probably worth having a look at.

  • What's so addictive about this game? A post above mentioned 100-200hrs playtime. Must be a fun game

  • Hows this vs xbox? I have xbox pass and played a little (1hr) but wwasn't hooked. Usually I love rpgs.

  • Deal is over, I think it ended early…

  • Wanted to buy this for ages as I've never properly played through Skyrim… Sad to see the deal no longer there.
