3 Cars Accident - Am I Fully at Fault? (No Insurance)

Hi guys, hope everyone is well.

I just had a multiple car accident where I was the last person (the most rear) that hit the car.

My car has a minor damage. However, the car in front of me hitting another car which the damage is very unreasonable. I am driving my partner’s car and she does not insured the car. I am worried about what is going to happen next, as there are so many scenario might happen.

According to some trusted people around me, they truly believe I am not 100% entitled for the accident, as my car has very minor damage at the front part. However, the middle car, has significant damage at her part which hit the boot of Car C. According to their point of view, they told me that I failed to brake but I truly believe from the factual evidence, I barely tap the car in front of me.

I am feeling so stress and low, as this is one of the lowest point of my life. Few days ago, my brother fall down from 2nd level to his epilepsy illness and now I have to face this situation.

If you hit the middle car and pushed them into the front car, then you are 100% liable for 100% of the damage to all three vehicles.

This could easily be north of ten thousand dollars. A few hundred dollars a year in insurance could have saved you this money.

If the middle car had already hit the first car prior to your hitting the middle car, you are liable for all damage to your vehicle and damage to the rear of the middle vehicle. This could also be several thousand dollars. Again, a few hundred dollars a year in insurance could have saved you this money.

Pending where all of this gets to, you'll have potentially two insurance companies (and their lawyers) chasing you for payment and all the attendant hassle that goes with this, including the potential for litigation proceedings to be launched against you. Yet again, a few hundred dollars a year in insurance could have saved you this money, time, and angst.

Moral of the story? Don't even think about driving any vehicle that is uninsured.

    • This could easily be north of ten thousand dollars

Lol, try tens of tens. The car in the middle was a Range Rover. Who knows what the 1st car was. If it was a RR then OP is well and truly F'd

Moral of the story? Don't even think about driving any vehicle that is uninsured.

People take risks like this every day. OP decided that comprehensive was too expensive and took a risk, and it hasn't played out.

      • Haha … I actually originally wrote tens of thousands and then thought I'll try to make OP feel a little better. But, yes, depending on the vehicles involved, this is going to be a very expensive, potentially life altering lesson on the value of insurance.

  • However, the car in front of me hitting another car which the damage is very unreasonable. However, the middle car, has significant damage.

Time to put on your big boy pants and accept the responsibility for the accident. You cannot prove the damage status of the 2 other parties vehicles before the accident so whatever damage to the back and front of the cars involved is on you. Different vehicles will react differently in crash scenarios due to the differing weights or cabin designs all to protect occupants from inattentive drivers such as yourself.

Few days ago, my brother fall down from 2nd level to his epilepsy illness and now I have to face this situation.

What exactly does this have to do with the accident or having no insurance? Using your sick brother to try and lighten the resonses is disgusting.

Using your sick brother to try and lighten the resonses is disgusting.

      I think that's a bit of a stretch mate.

OP is going through a difficult time and sometimes in life it doesn't rain but it pours. They were just providing additional context to what's going on with them, to kick them whilst they're down like this is a 'disgusting' act yourself.

    • I am not using my brother as an excuses. I never even beg money from you. I am just putting an information of what is going through in my life. I apologise if thats offending you.

      • who's to say the other two cars dont also have things going on in their life?
range rover driver prob will be fine - but the other car might depend on the car to get to and from work, might not have insurance too?, might also have a sick relative etc

      • Everyone has a million and one other things happening in their lives that are puttting pressure on their sleep, their mental health, money issues, relationship issues, etc. Do they all use them as excuses to crash into people?
Want to know some of my issues where I haven't crashed into anyone?
        Fine.
Mum has MS and she's been in hospital after having dizzy spells and falling in the bathroom.
Best mate told me he has testy cancer and is undergoing chemo, this was in the morning before I drove to work.
My mortgage has gone up $1500/month in the past 8 months and money worries are a constant.

You know what'd make it worse? If someone crashed into me and said 'oh, it's not my fault, my brother fell down and i was thinking of him'.

You had an accident, time to be an adult and accept and pay the consequences.

  • I'm pretty sure if you're the last car you're liable.

Pretty much whatever happens infront of you such as a car randomly braking, and you rear end it…. you didn't leave a safe following distance. If you left a big enough distance then you wouldn't of hit the car infront.

This should remain true unless a car cuts you off. But then sometimes people would rather use the horn than the brakes and crash anyway.

    • If you left a big enough distance then you wouldn't of hit the car infront.

Literally every driver in Sydney does this and is why multi-car pileups happen because of a domino affect of everybody tailgating everybody.

I'll be going 110km/h on the freeway and have a double B truck tailgating me 5 meters away. Their breaking distance is scary long.

      • Drivers are taught and lectured about keeping a safe distance, (they even quote car length per 10kph increments) but almost nobody does it and plod doesn't police it. Too busy busting ppl for petty crap for easy pickings.

You leave a safety gap, and a brain dead (profanity) overtakes and parks there.Human stupidity is the new black. As this thread shows

  • damn that sucks.

In a pile up, unless you have dashcam and can prove it, everyone just blames the car behind.

    good luck with the process.

  • Just ghost them until they give up, Range Rover owners will have the cash to cover themselves.

    • Yeah. Don't do this ^

  • OP has requested the thread to be closed.
