On one hand, I have a hard time stopping myself from good bargain compulsive buying … on the other hand, I can't picture myself working with wood anytime soon

So you're saying you bought one hahaha

  • Regular Price is $89.80 (per Amazon) so RRP is so extreme. Half price so good find!

I really need to stop looking at OzBargain.

I have a similar one in my toolkit - haven’t used it for 20 or more years and I’m a chippy by trade

    • These are more for tricky grain aren't they? Saw somebody cleaning up the middle of some timber with a swirly burl in it. Smaller project type stuff where the finish is important I'd think?

I'm no professional, so no doubt it will sit in my cabinet until such a job or project arises with timber that needs it. It may never be used! lol

For tricky grains I assume you’re referring to 2-way grain which can be a pain to deal with - best option is to use what I call a scrapper plate - it’s a stainless plate with sharpened edges which I prefer to use in the situation, if used properly they’re fantastic

        • Ahh…cool, thanks. I think I'm familiar with that from wood turning. Makes sense.

  • I have one similar in my toolkit - used it weekly for 35 or more years. Great tool. Carpenter/Builder/Furniture maker by choice.

    • Any tips on when you use it? apparently its good for end grain work but I've never managed to smooth ends with it

never meet a plane good for end grain, I mainly us it for arrisng (90%)

  • Shows $77 now

  • I bought one similar (different brand) for a small one time use type of scenario - however, could not use it straight out of the box.
Turns out that the blade is not sharpen out of the box so pretty useless without a blade IMHO. Check if the blade is ready-to-use.

I will be returning it back to Bunnings.
