Was browsing on Ozbargain for a coffee grinder and checked if any of the previous deals still available.
When I came across that the Sunbeam EM0440 GrindFresh Conical Burr Coffee Grinder is now available for even cheaper than before - $60.

Great price for a very decent grinder
I currently use Hario Mini Mill but want to have an electric one. Will this produce better coffee ground or at least the same?
Electric should give more consistent results than a hand mill. But not a huge difference.
The main thing folks is to use a grinder. That pre-ground coffee is never the same by the time you get to the bottom of the packet.
can this give me consistent coarse filter size coffee grind? Does it top the Breville Barista Express's inbuilt grinder or separate grinder?
Breville's grinder is much better.
This is just a cheap burr grinder, it will be fine for filter coffee and cold brews. Espresso requires a better grinder.
What about for a moka pot?
Espresso requires a better grinder.
Bullshit
Please sir, the internet is free.
@croseks: Plenty of people are using this for espresso
So tell us why it can not be used for espresso?@Loot N Plunder: It has a lot of play and makes inconsistent grind size.
I went from this to a specialita and every shot is now consistent.
Cold brew maybe, but this will make terrible filter coffee as it will overproduce fines.
Original Sunbeam café series grinder owner here. This grinder had Italian made burrs. Sunbeam EM0440 is a follow-up, cheaper model.
After more than 10 years it finally gave up a ghost. I used the "washer mod" mentioned below for finer grind.
I've replaced it with Breville smart grinder pro. I regret not buying it sooner. Grind consistency is excellent compared to Sunbeam which was all over the place. Sunbeam is very messy unlike Breville which is also very easy to clean. If you love your coffee, save a bit more and buy Breville. You will not regret it.
Interesting, so you had the EM0480 (I assume is the original cafe series grinder) too?
May have to keep a lookout for a deal on the Breville smart grinder pro, seems like it used to be around ~$180-200 now more like $300. Don't feel like spnding $400-800 on a grinder otherwise. I don't find mine makes too much of a mess, grind into handle and use pwd tool over the sink.I doubt these new machines with electronic buttons and displays would be built to last as long as a simple burr grinder. Mine probably just needs cleaning out more often (than never).
@G-rig: I thought Sunbeam grinder was "great" until I bought Breville. It's a whole new level of grind quality that results in much better tasting coffee (compared them both with the same beans). I could see the uneven coffee particles in Sunbeam grind where with Breville it's done to perfection. Like I said, the two are worlds apart. Don't be fooled by the plastics - some even more premium grinders have plastic parts too.
I paid $280 for Breville Smart Grinder Pro after some haggling with Good Guys saleswoman. That's the best price you can get currently.
@vrsac: ok will have a look out for it sometime and check the reviews.
I've had the EM0480 since 2008 (in storage some of that time) but could be time for a change sometime.Sounds like you wouldn't need the PWD tool if it's that good :P
All helps as part of the process though.
I started with a Sunbeam EM0440, but I gave it away - too messy, but inconsistent and not fine enough for espresso. I moved to a Breville Smart Grinder Pro, which was better in every way l, but I wore it out. A few months ago, I imported the well reviewed DF84E and it annihilates the Breville - it makes the others feel like toys. A worthy upgrade.
@ilikeit: Nice, that's at least A$630 but probably much better as you say (at 10x the price).
Seem to be a few different models, neither are seems like neither are perfect or something, the P or E models. Seems confusing..

DF64P and E around 1150$,

@G-rig: I have the DF64E with the digital screen. It has programmable buttons to stop after a single and double shot, and a timer. It also has a bean hopper and a single dose bellow. It is basically all motor and very heavy. The burrs are also flat with almost zero retention of grounds, unlike the Breville which was tedious to clean
Like I said, my Breville wore out and I even used 3D printed parts to keep it breathing. My early model didn’t have as durable propeller to push the ground coffee out of the chute, unlike today’s version.
I think the DF64 will last many years. So very happily with it. And yes, the coffee does taste better.
I wouldn't recommend it. Instead, get a hand grinder. KINGgrinder k2 or K6 (best bang for buck), Timemore Chestnut, 1Zpresso range.
Spending $100-200 on a hand grinder is like spending $600+ on an electric grinder in terms of grind consistency and quality of resulting cup. A Fellow Ode with Gen 2 burrs ($600) is similar to a K6 ($150) for filter, for example. Spending under $300 for an electric grinder is just a waste of money unless you blend it with milk or aren't particular about flavour; the grind consistency and geometry is poor.
Argh. I've been holding off reading the not so good reviews. Been hand griding with a porlex mini for months after my BES Pro impeller wore down. Attempted to replace, but I think I've broken something inside and the grind doesn't adjust properly.
I'll see how this goes for the price.
Would this be good for cold brewing?
Yep. May need shim to grind finer for espresso from what I have read.

I got this on the last deal.
Works fine for me, for pourover. Imagine it would be fine for aeropress too. Can't comment re: espresso.
You have to slap it pretty hard 2-3 times to get the last 2g of your grinds out of it. Once you get the hang of it it's not too annoying.
What do you find about the comments of it being messy? I think the reviews in Amazon isn't only for this model though. It seems that the reviews are for the 3 models listed.
I grind directly into the included container, which catches everything. No mess.
Messiness is when people grind into the portafilter, I think. (Don't know anything about making espresso.)
some people are just messy in general.
Thanks for the feedback @bearmetal. I decided to give this a skip for now.
This is as messy as it gets grinding into the portafilter:

@G-rig: Mine got really messy trying to make coarse grinds for plunger.
I've also got a single dose $500 grinder that I cannot get a coarse grind on so I bought this for plunger, pourover, and cold brew.
It's ok but would bin this if I could get a coarse grind from my single doser.@Crownie: Yeah mine is quite fine for the espresso machine, almost down to the Lowest setting (usual between 2 and 5).
According to some reviews, it the coarsest grind setting is too fine for French press
Look up the shim (washer) mod. Easy and made my em0480 go very fine, most people commenting don't know about it or have used one. Still going strong for years and years with no maintenance.
(PS have used the grinder in the OP but can vouch for mine, assume a better model but similar enough).
Looks like it’s gone back to $69, nice.
Same price for online orders at Big W by the looks of it.
