That's not running Windows Phone 7…
    Oh well.

  • Android 4.0? The picture of the handset shows it running Mango?

It's an android launcher called "7 Launcher"

  • was gonna consider it but then saw 3G: 850/2100Mhz :-(

good for some i guess. anyone know anything about the brand?

    • Good for Vodafone (metro) and Telstra

good dual core mtk6577, bit outdated gpu(actually sgx530 OC)
gets about 5400 antutu = around sgs1 with custom rom, not quite sgs2 yet

corning gorilla glass 1 too, battery is abit under avg

however, if youre willing to wait about a month or 2, mtk6588 is coming out with quad core and sgx544 for not much more

brand wise, this is much better than your yum cha androids.

    • I agree the MTK6588 phones will be on sale very soon, a few are already being listed on certain sites like fastcardtech. But I think if you want to risk with these chinese phones, ensure you check there's a community active on XDA or some other site. Otherwise you could end up stuck on some crappy firmware preloaded with a whole bunch of useless crap you don't want.

My best bet if you want a MTK6577 phone, get the Jiayu G3. The community isn't there yet but I'm confident it will since it's successor, the G2 was well recieved even on whirlpool and the company itself puts out updates on a semi regular basis. It's specs are pretty good and from what I've seen in videos it seems to be built pretty damn well and even the previous model was told to be pretty well built on whirlpool.

      Overview of the G3:
      MTK6577 Chipset
1280X720 IPS Screen with Gorilla Glass (several scratch and uh…"crush walnuts" tests of it on youtube already)
      1GB Ram
2750 mAh Battery!! ( I don't know if this is for real or not but if it is that's huge.)

      edit:
also if these guys were in stock - http://www.fastcardtech.com/goods-7460-Newsmy-N1-CPU-MTK6577…
would be slightly cheaper at 149$ + 22$ USD shipping via EMS. so $171 USD ~ $165 AUD

i always wanted to post 1 of these mtk phone deal, but the problem is the QC is really hit or miss and there are so many oem clones makes it impossible to keep track of, let alone getting roms for.

  • Not sure I could get a Newman…. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newman_%28Seinfeld%29]

  • I see its free shipping…. I wonder which one you get??

    According to details
    Ordinary Post 20-35 Business days
    Registered Post 15-25 Business days
    UPS/TNT/EMS/DHL/Fedex 5-10 Business days

    • Probably registered. They can't risk having you reporting a "missing" product due to ordinary post.

  • If you ask to purchase a sample from a China supplier like these,
you get a good price, if they accept Paypal.

  • Be interested to hear from anyone who has bought one of these.
Superficially similar to the Huawei Ascend G300 (which Vodafone are selling for $150), but:

Newman N1 vs Huawei Ascend G300 —— FIGHT!

    4.3 vs 4.0 Inch
    960x540 vs 800x480px screen
    850/2100mhz vs 850/1900/2100
Dual Core MTK6577 vs Single Core Snapdragon
No CM10 vs Poorly supported CM10
Comes with ICS vs ICS Update (maybe) available soon
Dual SIM vs No Dual SIM

I guess the biggest advantage of the Huawei is that it's a brand name device from a manufacturer with a pretty good and improving reputation.

  • with this price i prefer sony xperia u $179 unlocked from crazy john
    quad bands network/dual core/4gb usable/great screen
but it does not support external memory card
