    The doorbell itself doesn’t connect to wifi. It has its own low energy wireless protocol to connect to the home base. The home base is plugged into Ethernet. So if you have Ethernet available closer to your gate than the router (probably unlikely) then you can move the base there. My home base is next to my router at the back of the house and my gate is at the front and it works. But so does my wifi there, just. It’s not a big house and my wifi router gets good range too.

    What I don’t know is whether the wired ones actually transmit the data along the wire to the home base. My money would be that the wireless connection to the home base is still the same, and the wired part is simply the power source. Because I think the idea is anyone who has a wired old fashioned doorbell can use the power feed from that.
