  • At a similar price the OLED would be the much better option, right? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803057)

    • Not with a refurb especially from Sony. They are known to have issues with the refurbs e.g. broken screens, internal issues, tvs that last 30 days before going black etc. its not worth the headache in my opinion you're better off going with a new model. If you don't want this particular one, I'd recommend waiting until closer to Christmas there will be some good deals on left over stock from the past few years.

  • Can someone help me decide between the X85K and X90K. $200 difference. I will be using with a Shield pro which would have better upscaling anyway. Don't watch much/any free to air.
Cant decide if Local Dimming is worth $200 or not.
X85 doesn't have it- Pros: Better lighting zone transitions, less blooming, better black uniformity, Less flicker (both are pretty low)
X90 has it- Pros: Better contrast

It is honestly negligible. Like you said, the x90k has better contrast which leads to deeper blacks and such but the x85k has slightly better HDR brightness zones. Both do 120hz for gaming, both do 4:4:4 for a pc display setup and both have some of the same negative attributes (terrible viewing angles). The only thing that separates them is that the x90k really struggles with glare and bright light reflections. I'd say save the $200 and just go with the x85k. Here is a link to a more in-depth comparison if you are still unsure: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x85k-vs-sony-x9…

Thanks for the extra info, there are no stores anywhere near me that have stock so can't see them in person. The rtings comparison is great.
The Sony website price matched the x85k at $999 and I got a 10% off code for signing up. CR probably won't work but it says it tracked for an extra 8% off… Hoping I don't have to deal with Sony warranty directly but I figure an extra $100 (or $165 if im super lucky) off is well worth the risk.
Now to find a decent wall mount to make it slightly less vulnerable to toddler projectiles.

  • Separate question - if its on Amazon but Sold by Sony, do you still have Amazon support for returns if there is a problem with it. Or does it need to be sold by Amazon

    • I think I've found the answer for this one myself - better support if sold by amazon

      • +1

Yeah, it's through a 3rd party seller (Sony) so less support but from my experience Amazon is still good about returns and refunds through 3rd party sellers. They allow you to send messages to them through Amazon anonymously and if the seller doesn't respond further action can be taken by Amazon.
