Not an expert - first time buying a standing frame myself - but at a glance:
      - 80kg vs ~120kg weight capacity
      - 2 stage vs 3 stage - main benefits with this is how long/high (important for shorter people) it can go and allegedly stability at higher heights.
      - 27mm/s vs 40mm/s movement speed - this one will go up and down faster.

      • +1

Thanks. I bought the eBay one and am very happy, but I am a bit short, haha, so it suits me. 40mm movement speed will be good

      • Definitely consider the huge weight of learning on the table if you're prone to doing so.

My table is beefier than (and was many times the price of) the 120 kg one but I need to g-clamp it in place. Otherwise it'll drop down - slowly during normal use, quickly if leaning on it, even if the clamps aren't super tight.

But I do have 2 table tops (full depth laminated chipboard and half depth hardwood for 3 monitors (one a heavy 24" Cintiq), and about 12 kg in monitor arms.

      • do these fit a 2.4m long desk

i am struggling to find stuff that caters for big desks that are not $2000 corporate multiseater tables or limited to the shitty 1.5m standard MDF ones

    • Depending on your height. I'm 173cm and I adjust my table to 64cm with a padded seat. I need a foot stool if I need to sit higher. And this just my personal preference.

  • Can anyone recommend a good quality desktop to go with it? I was thinking of maybe using the Ikea Karlby

    • +4

I got a Saljan instead when I was researching desk tops. The karlby obviously has a nicer finish as it's veneer but I didn't particularly need a wood finish so I went with the Saljan in white.

They're both equally as heavy so good for stability.

      • I did exactly the same with this model and it’s great. I did get the double beam model as it’s a bit more stable and designed for wider widths.

        • does the double beam suit long desks around 2.4m? also which one is the double beam listing?

      Bunnings glass pool fencing, 1300x800

      • +1

interesting, how to fix the frame onto the glass?

        • Gravity or suction cups

      • +1

Beware glass top is generally hard to keep clean, also only higher end mouse works on glass surface, due to reflection.

Example: Logitech MX series has Darkfield sensor technology that works on glass/mirror, or use a mouse pad.

        • Or a sheet of paper.

          • @Wardaddy: Or a $14 jumbo mouse pad, which is totally fine throwing into a cold wash and a cold dryer to keep clean

          • -1

@Wardaddy: this is ozbargain not ozghetto

      • +2

I was using a 600mm before and felt it is really narrow for a office desk

        I switched to Ikea BEKANT

      • +1

2200 is quite a long desk.

        • Can probably just ask Bunnings to cut it down to 1800 or 1500, because you're right - 2200 is quite long.

          • @tomsco: Yeah I think they cut it for like 50 cents a cut but I don't believe they finish the edge for you.

          • +2

@tomsco: They won't cut down the laminated panels. I tried.

      • Bunnings used to do a 2000x800x30mm jointed oak panel with fake live edge for $180 or so, discontinued at the moment which is a shame. Was really good value, if awfully heavy.

This is ok for the price but might need a couple of cuts and need to either hardwax it or poly finish or similar.

          • +3

@Whodis: Currently using this (2100mm pine) as my tabletop as it perfectly fills the space. Sat on a lazy maisons electric sit/stand base. I did 2x coats of stain to make it darker and 3x coats of poly to finish it up.

            Pros:
            - Cheap
            - Making your own stuff is fun
            - Huge desk space great if you have big speakers and PC case on desk
            - Did I mention how cheap it was?

            Cons:
            - Pine is quite soft, so more prone to dents and bumps if you're careless
            - If it's a fingered join (like this one) Bunnings (at least my local) wouldn't cut it for me
            - Not sure I'd go poly finish again since my cats' claws can scratch the surface quite easily

            • @blazerunner: whats the significance behind finger join?

also which lazy maison stand are you using? the dual or the trio?

i have a 2400mm tabletop as my current desk that im trying to repurpose with standing desk frame, but cant find one that handles something that wide lol

the trio from LM is more expensive than this listing but at 173cm wide base, that means only 30cm overhang on each side. and im not going to put anything heavy there anyway

              • @furythree:

whats the significance behind finger join?

I think because its not a solid piece of wood it probably wouldn't cut cleanly since the pieces are glued together - that was how they explained it to me. Not my area of expertise though lol I would not consider myself a woodworker.

                the dual or the trio?

I got the dual motor version, no complaints so far.

          • @Whodis: Damn, that's gone down $50 since I bought it. :( Nice!

Cut down to 1800x750 and finished, it does the job nicely for me. Although as blazerunner says, it's a bit soft so mine has a few dents in it. Oh well.

          • @Whodis: whast the length and overhang length at the ends from the end of the frame?

      • I have this one (for the last 9 years) but the 30x900x2100 sitting on 2x Ikea saw-horses (can't remember the real name).

Has held up well. Haven't bothered to seal it ever, but I'm not grubby.

    • +1

I went through this process myself and after seeing the Karlby in person, I determined it was less than ideal for a desk since it's not deep enough at 63.5cm. IKEA sell a larger variant, but not in Australia unfortunately.

I bought a table top from Chairforce (this one - https://chairforce.com.au/product/rectangle-rafael-timber-ta…) which I've been really happy with when paired with a similar Aimezo frame from Amazon AU.

      • 140x70? How was the company to deal with? Have you had to treat the tabletop?

  • +3

Good price. I have 2 of these and works well. Been over 3 years now.

  • +1

Hmm, so they have upgraded the controls to have USBs but removed one position to a total of 3. The only thing I can caution people about is that there are models with an undertray (to hide the control units). I have noticed the newer two I bought didn't have this even though I can see the screw holes are there. That means, they are saving money by not providing this and this is likely the same as well.

  • +8

Had this one on the Wishlist for a while but I decided against it based on reading reviews that recommend getting a model that has two crossbars for stability.

I bought two of these for $380 each. It’s one of Flexispot’s higher end models and comes with their reputable warranty.

FLEXISPOT 161kg Capacity Dual Motor Height Adjustable Standing Desk Frame 3 Stages Electric Sit Stand Desk Base, Home Office Stand up Desk Leg (Black Frame Only) https://amzn.asia/d/8yQC2uO

    • Would welcome suggestions for a desk top, would love to get a nicer timber or bamboo one but would ideally spend under $150. I like the table tops like the Acacia one from Bunnings but want deeper than 60cm, I think 70cm would be ideal.

      • 60 is heaps. Id rather 50. I'm using that bunnings panel currently, very nice

        • +1

60 is heaps. Id rather 50.

You must have short legs. A standard office desk width is about 750-800mm

        • +1

Depends on monitor size. 60cm is suitable up to 27inch monitor

    • Do you any recommendation for the desktop ? My budget is approx 250 . I am looking for either 150cmx 75cm or 180cx75cm size for the desktop. Thank you

      • +1

I got this one recently, came out to be $98 + $45 delivery to Sydney Metro, pretty happy with it so far, has the scalloped edge to put cables at the back too

        https://www.newlineofficefurniture.com.au/desktop-natural-oa…

        • Still recommend this one? I'm in the market as well and appreciate your feedback :). Seems affordable but pass your test? Cheers

    • omg so flexispot do sell in australia

what did you mean by 2 crossbars?

    • +2

      after 2hrs of research

      bought the flexispot frame
      ticks all the boxes

      • Glad to hear it stood up to others’ research too. The two frames arrived today and I unpacked both to test the motors, I recommend doing the same. They were much quieter and sleeker than my previous cheaper standing desk frame from FLEXISPOT, and the build quality was impressive. Wait until you feel the heft of those cross-bars at the top.

        • haha cant wait

ive been hunting for a standing desk on and off for months and couldnt find anything affordable that had this heft

          youve saved me nearly 400-600$!

        • Did you decide on a good top for it? Thinking of doing the same thing

          • @AusDaniel: This is the one I’ve had saved for ages, though I’d probably save a bit and go for the rubberwood option. I’ll probably go for 150x70. https://chairforce.com.au/product/rectangle-rafael-hardwood-…

For the second desk, I might get the acacia panel ($109?) from Bunnings and ask them to cut it to length. This one can probably be 60cm deep without concern.

            • @ZJack: Yeah I am torn. Ive read elsewhere bunnings wont cut laminated panels. So Ill have to go in and ask

Im after 1800x700 or 1800x750 so options are limited at an acceptable price hahaha

              • @AusDaniel: Yeah that’s large! I probably would’ve gone bigger too if I wasn’t discouraged by the price.

There’s the Pine FJ panel from Bunnings, somebody on this deal comments said their local Bunnings wouldn’t cut it because of the FJ. But not clear if the Acacia one is FJ or just fused together with glue and dreams.

                • @ZJack: Yeah the Acacia and even the Rubberwood are nice. Its a shame 600 is just too shallow for me.

Even though its pricey I was looking at the teak, although its FJ too. I dont have the tools to cut one down to size myself

                  • @AusDaniel: I won’t be buying the tops and setting mine up for another month or so, so please let me know how you go in the meantime

            • @ZJack: I have this walnut tabletop from Chairforce too (150x70), the finish is great. The people there were super nice and helpful too - they picked and unpacked a tabletop from the warehouse so I could take a look at the actual finish, while they were in the middle of moving warehouses. Can recommend 👍

              • @blazerunner: Which do you prefer out of this and the pine one you mentioned you had? Worth the extra money?

    • Thanks ZJack purchased based on your comments. Now to look for a timber top.

PS White is now available at time of posting,

  • looks similar with this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txCbj5amQ20

  • Does anyone know the charge speed of the usb ports?

  • I got this one with zendesk top. Just be mindful that you will need to drill the hole on zendesk top bench to enable you to fix it on it.

Maybe that was the issue so I feel bit wobble when I use on the standing position.

However, I think wobble is unavoidable with 2 legs. Otherwise you need a 4 legs / 2 legs with metal bars.

  • Is something like this any good or is it junk being particleboard?

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/1800-x-900mm-25mm-panel-melamine…

  • +2

I have some reservations about that desk because the inside track appears to be a single rail (!?) unless the pic is bad? that might make it fundamentally weaker.
I DO recommend "3 stage" legs over 2 (stronger, higher and lower)

I can TOTALLY recommend buying a frame, putting a top on it and off you go though, big savings, not too hard for anyone competent.
I got these legs at recommendation of a mate:
    https://lazymaisons.com.au/collections/standing-desk-frame/p…
They're strong, well built - very happy with them.

I got a mere $60 desk top from Ikea which is actually I think 5 or 2mm thinner than a normal desk top and yet it's still working great.
    $60 (!!)
    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/trotten-table-top-white-3047479…

You'll need a power drill, a brain, some patience.

I HIGHLY recommend cable routing rails from Value Office Furniture:
    https://valueofficefurniture.com.au/officefurniture/office-f…
(they have dual depth too) - those guys answered my whiny questions and accomodated custom orders for me, prices are also quite reasonable

I also recommend some velcro cabling or tape etc, to make it neat, tidy etc.

The legs from Lazy Maison are fairly highly rated and some people put beast size 2200 x 900 desk tops on them. More space = golden.
Finally, buy some monitor arms for cleaner desk with more room to do stuff.

NOTE the legs in this ad might be fine- but a single central re-inforcement rail? at least SEEMS cheap to me
Not willing to neg it because I don't know for sure and it is very cheap but be aware , not much reinforcement.

  • Do they make units liek this for corner desks?

  • +1
    • Never buy fibreboard, they are not water/ moisture proof

      • +3

Thats what they're all made of nowadays. They are lacquer finished for that reason.

        • I would buy solid wood one.
Like Bunnings or Ikea kitchen bench which made of solid wood

          • @Panpanw: Aren't the Ikea benchtops wood veneer?

            • @skittlebrau: Kitchen table should be solid wood. Otherwise, it won't last.
              If not, use Bunnings.

    • Under material and cares, it says Particle- and fibreboard with honeycomb paper filling

Sounds like there are hollow sections, meaning the frame may not be fully compatible (screw into air).

      • Where there’s a will there’s a way.

  • I prefer this one (https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/nai-artiss-standing-desk-sit-st…) and it is much cheaper.

    • Any major differences with this one? Looks better value if not

      • +1

I have never tried the one posted here so I can't really tell the differences. The artiss one is a 2 stage instead of a 3 stage which I am guessing it can impact the stability. However, I have been using the artiss one for a few weeks now and I think it is great for its value. The only thing that I don't like is that the table top that I got from artiss in eBay didn't quite match up the pre drilled holes for the frame which is annoying.

  • +1

So just to confirm, I can put this at any height I want within the min and max range. The 3 step is just presaved heights that I can configure?

    • +1

Correct, I’ve set 1 to my standing height and 2 to my sitting height. You can move it up and down around that however you like

  • I’ve been running this standing desk with one of their 160cm tabletops for an over a year now. It’s been brilliant!

Also bought their PC mounts and have speaker and pc mounted on the underside.

Note: the control unit has to be securely mounted to a surface for it to work properly. When I first got the unit I tried to test moving up and down, it kept failing before the control unit wasn’t mounted

    • What speaker do you have mounted? I have a subwoofer and I'm concerned if i leave it on the floor the cords aren't long enough but if I have it connected to the table it might shake it and make noise

      • I’ve got a Logitech G560 set. Sub is mounted under the desk in one unit and PC on the other side

        • Nice. And no issue with noise/ vibrations ?

  • Looking at the control panel - it looks identical to my T&W desk frame
    https://www.templeandwebster.com.au/Alwyn-III-140cm-Dual-Mot…
Same load too. Although the legs look a bit different on close inspection. The Amazon one seems to come out in two stages where as I can confirm the T&W desk only 2.

  • whats the max weight? and whats the usb c for ?

    • 120KG going by the pics.
      Charging only I think.

  • In addition to Ikea and Bunnings, you can also buy desktop from actual office furniture places/websites.

Though pickup location is usually limited and often far.

  • Any suggestions for a 1800 x 700-800 wood desktop?

Get wood from Bunnings instead though

      • Yeah I had been looking. Do Bunnings cut to size? Nothing quite matches the size I need

        • They can cut panels to size but then you have bare edges, capable of getting wet / exposed. Not dead smooth etc.

      • All wood from Bunnings are unfinished, you need to apply vanish.

It may warp over time, due to moisture, if left unprotected. Some on display are already warped.

So factor in a tin of vanish, time and effort.

  • +4

Showing as $379.99 with 1 left in stock. May have just missed out

    • Probably for the best. Flexispot has better reviews, and comes with desktop, just beware that some of their desktops are not one piece, message them to confirm.

  • Mine got delivered today but major ceebs assembling it
