I got a BTT Pad7 for basically the same price. If you don't want to be locked down to Creality's version of klipper then that might be a better deal.

    • Thanks for that, just got one

    • so this just a display with touch screen that cost almost $200?
what is the benefit of this?

rather use that money on a new printer.

      • It's an MCU with a screen. Basically a raspberry pi + screen. It has klipper firmware pre-loaded so you can connect it up to your current printer. It basically replaces most of your old printer's thinking power (that's probably 8 bit) with a 32 bit brain, so the printer can operate a lot faster and better, as it's just focussing on doing the movements, not the calculations of the movements.

It also comes with an accelerometer which you can hook up to allow your printer to use input shaping for better looking prints at higher speed.

  • I still don't get the point of this, it won't miraculously improve your printing quality.
Let's be honest, Creality printers are far from solid, I had an Ender3-V2 when I started and it is not much different than any other of their printer including the fake advertisement behind K1.

Save the money and buy a printer that comes with Klipper from factory,

I have had Ender, Prusa, BambuLab and now a Voron Trident running Klipper, it makes such a huge difference to invest more money into a solid printer that won't give you half of the headaches the previous printers gave me with X1C included.

It isn't worth to buy a cheaper 3D printer and add hundreds worth of upgrades on it.

    • invest more money into a solid printer that won't give you half of the headaches the previous printers gave me with X1C included.

      What would you recommend?
Everyone has their value tradeoffs. I'd love a Voron Trident, but I don't have that kind of cash, or time to build one. You said even the X1C gave you headaches, but that's about the most plug and play printer I've heard of and is still close to $2,000.

      • Bambi released their new printer - the a1. Seems to be pretty good from what I can see - better ams system, etc. Sven though it’s. abe’s slinger I don’t think it’s really how fit back and it’s still great .

        • A1 mini is not for me. Multi colour printing causes too much waste for my liking and I mostly print functional. Plus the AMS takes up a tonne of desk space… plus still very closed source and I'm a tinkerer. I can see the appeal to someone just getting into printing though.

I'm currently looking at the flying bear ghost 6 as an upgrade to my Voxelab Aquila.

        • what's the current recommended printer to get?

BTW do you do resin printing?

          • @pinkybrain: Resin imo best for mini figures mainly and I think it’s quite abit more toxic than for example pla but that’s up to you and what you find online etc. If your a beginner than starting with an ender is pretty common. Maybe also a prusa but depends on your price range and what you want to do

            • @JXXY1337: I am not a beginner
but curious what is the current recommended ones to get..

Seems like the bambi was well reviewed.
Also the voron looks cool as well (but expensive to get the kit and need to build/print the parts yourself.
Not sure if there are the same ballpark price for the same build plate size.

Would the bambi be better than voron if same price point?

yeah resin has excellent speed and print quality but the print can't be too big.
the resin is toxic and the post processing with is not hard but need to dump the waste post liquid which is also dirty/toxic.

What printers do you own or planning to buy?

              • @pinkybrain: Honestly it really depends because I think bambu printers are for people to just get started printing. Voron I would say is good for modding and would be faster than Bambu. Bambu has systems like ams. It really depends I can’t really recommend one over the other because they are very different with their own good features

          • @pinkybrain:

what's the current recommended printer to get?

I had X1C and experience in first hand the consequences of having a proprietary printer with problems you cannot solve without depending on the company itself meaning things might take some time.

Prusa is out of option, expensive and pretty slow with average quality when compared with cheaper printers.

For those starting now even so I don't agree with it, grab a BambuLab printer instead of Enders.
You will get more for less compared with other brands.
If you wanna spend on a 3D printer for life, then you better have the cash to grab a LDO Voron or VZBot.

Even Voron, there are 3 kits, LDO which is the most expensive and the best quality components you can get with support on Discord to send you replacement if something went bad; Formbot which is the cheapest kit and as you guessed, things are a hit and miss; Fysetc, the cheapest of the cheapest kit, no comments there.

So if you ever see somebody complaining about Vorons, remember that there are 3 kits plus human factor, some people lack common sense.
I have been in this hooby close to 4y, you see so many crazy sh1t people do thinking it is right.

Resin printer only if you are into modeling, cosplay and miniatures, nothing else.

At the end, it is your money and what you are willing to accept.
I am past the age to deal with printer drama, I can turn my printer on after a month without using it like nothing happened with top solid quality.

    • I have a Ender 3 v2 and enjoy modding it, especially the fully printable ones - you can turn it into a decent machine. Honestly running Klipper on a RPi is good but you won’t have the hardware interface. The only thing stopping me is that the usb chip must have faced some damage after i backpowered it when the tape fell off. The causes it to randomly disconnect mid print, etc. Very annoying

      • and enjoy modding it

People have different standards. I don't wanna spend more than 50% of the time having to tweak my printer for it to print a somewhat okay good quality print.
3D Printing hobby does not need to be hell. It can be fun, just have a nice 3D printer.

        • Most printers now work pretty fine outside of the box. Of course if you print high speeds the quality will be lower
