Was on the hunt for a new EDC backpack and came across this deal. Reviews seem pretty good. Can price match with The Iconic to use UGC.

how are you finding the pd zip 20? considering that one for my camera gear and EDC
Lately I’ve been rocking Topo designs quick pack 7.3L actually!
Fits my iPad Pro 11, ripoff xiaomi screwdriver set, a mini roll of gorilla tape, some pens and a sharpie, a plasma lighter, Wuben torch, volt stick, leatherman wave, mini med kit, 2x facemask.
Usually worn as a sling or messenger style. Also converts to a bumbag style wear configuration for maximum dad-core.
My pd zip edc I have it configured to a style I like but then I fell back in love with the topo
Nike used to make a backpack that looked very similar to that, but not designed for camera gear. I believe it slowly changed over the years and then had a hardshell 'epic'. Can't remember the name of the model that looked a lot like that, without the hardshell or straps
bellroy backpacks are insanely good
How so? That seems pretty expensive for a backpack - what's the value proposition?
super durable, really well made, and probably the most comfortable backpack I have used (my sample size is small but you get the point 🤣)
also the same with their phone cases and wallets
Elite customer service too. I had a zip break on a bag once and they sent me a whole new bag without even asking for the old one back.
@corgi-runner: Is that "elite customer service" or "LOL these cost less than $20 to manufacture, we can send you 7 more and still make a healthy profit"?
I've never had a zip break on my $30 backpacks…
I bought a bellroy one about 3 years ago, best bag I've ever had. Taken it to work everyday and holidays, everything on it is still top condition, zips are really good quality, all the compartments are high quality, and it's just well designed in the layout and features, no cheap materials or poor stitching and the bag is really comfortable to wear all day, even taken it on long hikes.
To be fair, my $30 backpack is still in top condition too.
Bag quality these days can actually be very high, even when spending a tenth of this.
Whenever the BuyItForLife subreddit has a thread about "What did you buy expecting to have to replace but it's just lasted forever?" all the answers are mid-range or budget-end backpacks.
@ItsMeAgro: Yeah agreed the bag I had before was still solid before I swapped over, you can definitely get some that last for cheap, but you really do feel and see the difference with more expensive ones to realise how their design are superior and comfortable.
Depending how often you use it, I think backpacks are worth spending extra on if you're like me and travel to work with one (public transport + walking) everyday, and enjoy going for a walk or hike. An extra $150 if you're going to use it everyday for 10 years sounds reasonable to me.
I had a $19 Nike branded backpack that i used for 15 years, 5 days a week. I replaced it with a $29 Cargbee that's been perfect for the past 5 years… Why should i spend $190 ? That's a lifetime supply of backpacks. :)
You shouldn't. If you're happy with what you have and have no reason to upgrade, save the money.
I used an old bit of rope on a free hessian sack I found by the road that’s down the job for 10 years now. Serves as a pillow when necessary too.
I use glad wrap and rubber bands instead of condoms, 15 years 7 days a week
You should check urself out then
Well he surely didn’t get his hand pregnant.
Hopefully genuine Glad Wrap. The other brands are terrible.
I like dirt
I left a bellroy duffle bag in my cart at rushfaster last week and they emailed me an additional 15% off code a couple of hours later. Probably worth a shot.
Can you share the code? Maybe generic
can anyone recommend a good travel backpack for carry on, around 40l?
Idk about 40, I think even the well reviewed porter 30 is pushing it for some carry on
Interesting I have a Porter 46 and I've used that for over 5 years as my carry on, never had an issue flying with multiple airlines.
@hvrd I'd recommend that for a good carry on travel bag only, def not for hiking and long periods though.it measure pretty wide, have you flown jetstar with it
@Hvrd: The straps help reduce the width.
Jetstar, Southwest, AirAsia and some other Asian LCC I've flown with no issues. But you can also look any in the Osprey range of 40L you can't go wrong with them.
But judging by your comment below price wise might be way over your budget.@KBZ: ill be staying in hostels going across south america so not sure about taking an expensive backpack, first time doing a trip with a bag so ill probably know what i really want after but osprey's do look great
@Hvrd: Cheap one: the Asenlin 40L, worked well for a recent overseas trip. YMMV regarding durability. But it's not a long distance hiking one, more of a commuter one.
I've had a Osprey Porter 46 for a while - probably an older model now. I used it for carry-on travel around Europe and some domestic travel.
If you want to splash out, maybe a Peak Design Travel backpack otherwise look on a website like Packhacker and watch reviews to find something suitable.
I'm keen for this info too, I have noticed some around $50 on Amazon which are the clamshell type that open up fully. They look quite good but not sure which listing to choose as multiple sellers sell similar bags
the inateck 42l on amazon I've been considering, has decent reviews
Osprey farpoint 40
Can second this. Had this for 6+ years and hasn't missed a beat. I have used it for carry-on around Europe and SE-Asia. Did a lot of research at the time and decided on this.
I've got the Decathlon Quechua NH500 32L, it's $80 and great bang for buck
https://decathlon.com.au/products/hiking-backpack-32l-nh-esc…
Responded myself in my excitement to talk about this bag. Yes this, get it.
Farpoint 40 is the best travel backpack out there hands down. Not the cheapest though.
seems to be the consensus
+1 for Osprey as well. Heard a lot of good things about them, but if you're looking for a more budget option, something like the Tomtoc Navigator-T66 40L Travel Backpack fits the bill as well.
I fanboy hard over the decathlon nh escape 500
It's got a lot of features, a pocket layout that works for me.
Taken on many trips. Only problem I have is the sunglasses section isn't hard shelled like you'd find in Thule bags
QUECHUA Decathlon Quechua NH500 Escape Hiking Backpack - 32L 35L Black https://amzn.asia/d/3aJvnGj
I just bought this because of your comment, hopefully I become a fanboy too haha
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I love my Zorali Escapade, but it's only 30L.

Would it be more durable than a Crumpler?
Prob better design too depending on the model. Crumpler ain’t what it used to be and I say this as a former crumpler fan and bag hoarder.
I own the Belroy classic and the stupid straps always come loose and I hate it. To the company’s credit they sent me two little doohickeys you attach to your strap to keep them in place, but they still do slip (just a lot less)
For $300, that’s shocking.Gave me such a headache. When I went to sell it on marketplace, I found out there were plenty of listings as low as $60.
Buyer beware. The straps are the only thing I found annoying too, it's too slippery. I had to staple the straps together, what's the doohickey thing they sent?
I believe it’s called a ‘webbing keeper’. It’s basically a clip that attaches to both straps. Unfortunately it’s not strong enough to hold them permanently and you will still have to adjust, but less often. Not surprised you had to staple yours lol.
Ive got a classic. And two of their laptop sleeves.
The materials they use for those products i got, make it look old so fast (seems to easily absorb dust and doesnt come out).
I mainly use mine as a secondary back pack. Mustve used it about 4-5 times, but looks like I've had it for a decade
Not surprised they lose value quick
Yeah, I got the grey colour and it’s super worn in, though it was my daily for about a year. But my samsonite black label backpack which I switched too has kept its colour after a year of daily use, AND that’s on top of the use it got from the previous owner.
Their support is superb though; the key ring of my Belroy Transit 28L was a bit loose and Bellroy sent me a new bag no questions asked. They didn't even ask for the previous one back. So now I have two Belroy Transit 28L
Literally the same experience I had but on a tote bag.
Ive watched the entire 1 hour 10 minute video on the link and looks like a brilliant bag haha
Haha thought the same thing after clicking play.
720p :\
watched the bag review segment. seems pretty good, but don't think brilliant. would consider if it's was cheaper.
anyone know if this is any good as a cycling commuter bag? recommendations if this isn’t?
I've heard good things about the Osprey Metron if you're specifically after bike commuting
i own one bellroy product and whilst it is quite good, my understanding is that their quality has gone down and they are trading on their original brand name value at a high price. not to say they are bad products now, just the vibe i get.
i would be happier recommending a chrome industries bag. my backpack has been sensational for about five years of using it basically every day (and overseas travel etc) at a similar price point. i think they are a touch more function>form compared to bellroy. touch more expensive. of course, they may also be trading on an older reputation like bellroy as my bag is getting on in years now and doesn't represent current products.
they started out as a cycle messenger / parcel delivery bag company. they don't make the one i have from them anymore, but this would be the most similar. https://chromeindustries.com/products/volcan-backpack
volcan backpack, the michelin star deliveroo aesthetic
Good if you don't sweat and need strict business style bag. If you ride hard I would get Osprey Syncro or Deuter Race EXP - better weight destribution, mesh back, much lighter, rain cover, designed with water bladder in mind (you don't have to use it).
I got my Deuter Race EXP Air Backpack 14+3L for around $130 a week or so ago.
PS the brand name is misleading - it is uncomfortable design compared to the sports cycling backpack so would only make you to rush faster so that you can take off your sweaty back ASAP.haha rushfaster is the name of the shop. bellroy (bells beach + glenroy) is the brand of the bag.
anyone still using their backpack from high school?
Look man - between this 50hr a week job, high blood pressure, no friends, thinning hairline, beer belly, rising rental prices, crippling depression, addiction to darts, pies and pokies and being stuck on bald Bull in Mike Tyson’s punch out game for years, bags And bag design/collecting are one of the only things that make me happy.
Name definitely checks out. But i enjoyed your reply so thanks.
Gezus mate relax and go back to making your sandwiches.
You're negged but you're not wrong.
This is almost like the male equivalent of those $1000 designer handbags, that cost $20 to make.
Main difference is the marketing videos are about how hardcore the zippers are, instead of celebrities showing them off.
(Marketing is all it is, the dude above literally admitting the zipper broke on his).
😂
I've never had a zipper break despite years of daily use… on my $30 no-name backpack.
Lol yeah I knew I was heading for almost as many negs as big man tyrone with that comment. It surprises me every day when some obscure things like 3k japanese steak knives prove to have a bunch of people that follow it and understand everything about them.
Here's a promo code for 10% off that I received via email after purchase. REPQ2ZKPD2Z. I don't believe it is linked to my email.
Confirmed works thanks
Unfortunately get the message "This discount has reached its usage limit".
Looks like it's single use.REPJC36N373
Seems like a good price! But you can get a 25L and lighter Patagucci Black Hole Backpack for a little more, which is BIFL so long term heaps cheaper and better value, plus, Patagucci
So is this the updated version that no longer has the strap slide issue?
I was going to say it looks like the Kopack i got from an Ozbargain deal for $20. But searching now, anything similar is over $100!
still rocking my crumpler dry red 5 from 8 years ago. don't think it'll ever die for me to switch.
Edc must be warerproof in melbourne. This isnt.
Water resistant isn’t it
Nope, not that they cared to mention.
Edit : Bellroys site says water-resistant zippers, but no actual rating.
Wait I saw a video it shows water resistant 🤨 now I can’t find it lol
Nice . If I hadn’t gone pd zip 20 this would have been in my next lot to be considered
