Which eBook Reader under $150

Looking to buy a dedicated eBook reader for teenage daughter who has been asking for one. She is an avid reader of books. I'm not interested in a tablet because I want it used for reading only. What is my best option at this price point. Ideally under $100 (used is ok) but can stretch to $150.

Edit….. Sorted!! Upped the budget to $200 and went with the Kobo Clara 2E. Thanks for the help and suggestions. This guy convinced me in the end to not go with the Nia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdc8ImCvXiA

If you have amazon account maybe wait till the sale event on 10-11 th , probably will see Amazon products like kindle on promo

    • Cheers might do that.

    Second hand kobo.

    • Struggling to find them used, people hang on to them it seems. A lot more Kindles in the wild.

For kobo devices to purchase, you probably can get away with a Kobo Nia with a jbhifi perks coupon at sign up or do some creative stacking to get it under the magic 150 line. Any recent Kobo will give your daughter access to Overdrive if your local library has a e-library facility.

Otherwise, if one wants to stick with the Amazon ecosystem, then best to wait for the upcoming prime day sales to see what discounts amazon has to offer with their kindles, hopefully they might revisit a deal similar to this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/786613

    • Easy to get library books online if you Google.

Need to convert them but save money.

    • Im leaning more towards the Kobo based on the library feature. Our local has digial books etc. I wonder is the Nia acceptable with lower res screen compared to the Clara.

  • Kindle for sure, every day of the week. Worth paying extra for. I don't know why paper white is like $269 atm because I paid close to $150 for mine years ago, the waterproof one with flush bezel. Kindle is very easy to pirate books too if that's your bag, using the Send To Kindle app for your Mac or PC. Just right click your epub or whatever and choose "send to kindle".

Kobo may have finally cloned the Kindle design but it won't be a Kindle.

Are there no decent readers that can just display ePub and PDF files? My old Sony was super easy that way.

  • Kindle

  • If i was to go with a used Kindle what models are best under $100? So many generations to choose from what is the best bang for buck? What to avoid?

  • All sorted, went with the Kobo Clara 2E. Appreciate the help!
